Ash trees comprise billions of trees in forest lands, yet once emerald ash borer has arrived in a community, it can kill all the mature ash trees in a matter of three to four years. The larvae of the emerald ash borer cause a deterioration that leads to the trees’ inevitable death. Unless conventional insecticides are used, communities had better get used to the sound of chain saws. If emerald ash borer infestations have been detected within 10 to 15 miles, it is suggested to start pro-active conventional insecticide applications immediately.

By the time symptoms are noticeable, it is already too late to do anything to save the infested trees. There is currently no cure for an emerald ash borer infestation, but if pro-active steps are taken, conventional insecticide applications have proven effective in protecting ash trees.

So-called green alternatives, like TreeAzin injections, provide marginal control at best. If TreeAzin is the only option, then it would be better to do nothing rather than use TreeAzin.

Conventional insecticides that are, in fact, scientifically-safe, will effectively control emerald ash borer. Any prohibitions against these insecticides will lead to emerald ash borer damage & death. Either begin a program of no-risk conventional insecticide treatments, or remove & replace the threatened ash trees. If harmful-prohibition has been self-imposed, communities will simply have to get used to the sound of chain saws.

Remember … pesticide bans & organic farming lead to dangerous & toxic weeds. And these weeds kill people. For example, in Ontario, a resident was ultimately doomed because of the provincial prohibition against pest control products. An Ontario resident who could no longer rely on acquiring safe effective products for controlling dangerous weeds on his property, was forced to perform hand-weeding that would contribute to his death. Contact with these dangerous weeds resulted in severe burns to his hands & arms, requiring emergency treatment at a hospital, where, ultimately, he died. This hapless resident was forced into hand-weeding since the Ontario government had recklessly prohibited products that would have safely & effectively controlled the dangerous weeds, & spared the man’s life. Unfortunately, the government of Ontario had decided that imposing harmful-prohibition was more important than the safety of residents. The death was Ontario’s fault.

It can be concluded that pesticide bans & organic farming represent a high risk of causing deaths since they inevitably lead to garbage dumps of dangerous & toxic weeds.

In the 9|11 era of the organic nightmare, enviro- & organic- extremists have been absolutely wrong & have been debunked about the myth of so-called « healthier » organic food, which has been a dismal failure. This food is an imposition of a life-style choice upon a hapless public, & it is a nightmarish form of extortion. Conversely, non-organic fruits & vegetables that are pesticide-treated have been shown to be scientifically-safe & will cause no harm since government agencies build in immense safety factors to comply with reference dose & acceptable daily intake recommendations. According to John Wilkinson, minister of the environment — Pursuant to subsection 29(4) of Ontario Regulation 63/09 under the Pesticides Act, I am of the opinion that the use of the pesticides are necessary for the hosting of the event & it is in the public interest to do so. This exemption allowed for the use of no-risk conventional pesticides on sports fields that are in preparation for a national level sporting event.

Along with a season-long program of additional fertilization & over-seeding, a one-time pesticide application of Par III Turf Herbicide Solution ( 2,4-D, mecoprop, dicamba ) was used to control broad-leaved weeds, & Merit 0.5 G Insecticide was used to control white grubs. As a result, the turfgrass was expected to withstand much higher traffic & weed invasion & other pest infestations. The reduced weed & grub damage would also mean fewer bare patches & faster recovery after hard use. This would help reduce the chances of injury to players. Organic pesticide-free maintenance was not relied upon because it is a dismal failure.

On city-owned properties, Portland’s prohibition cost an exorbitant 700,000-dollars for organic pesticide-free maintenance, to replace the sports field turf because of uncontrollable & destructive pest infestations, & 30,000-dollars per year for additional staff time for manual weed picking & expensive green alternative pesticides that did not work. The city’s public works committee allowed parks to be designated pesticide-free if the number of weeds stayed below a certain level. However, according to officials, when too many weeds grow back, which would be the case every two years, the so-called pesticide-free parks will lose their designation & will be treated with no-risk conventional herbicides, with even higher doses & higher frequency. In fact, preventive & annual applications of a weed control products will require lower doses & lower frequency, which is more environmentally-friendly than Regina’s current program.

In conclusion, Regina’s bogus pesticide-free program will not truly be pesticide-free as long as it suits government officials, who will discretely continue spraying conventional pest control products with impunity. This form of organic pesticide-free maintenance with conventional herbicides is clearly a dismal failure.

Because of harmful-prohibition, by using green alternative pesticides ( i.e. Fiesta, an inferior green alternative herbicide ) foolishly recommended by the province, Steinbach spent upwards of 200,000-dollars per year. That’s well over ten times the cost of what was done with safe & effective conventional products. Who can afford this #@!!% ban nonsense ?!?! They have not forgotten the problem of weeds that surfaced after Coldstream, a part of Greater Vernon, self-imposed prohibition against no-risk conventional pest control products. Without the use of these products, municipal employees had to resort to the back-breaking & agonizing job of weed pulling by hand using hoes. This professional labour force was devalued into a group of mere cotton-pickers. While weed-picking was used initially to control weeds, clearly no professionally-trained municipal employee wanted to continue with this form of manual labour. Organic pesticide-free maintenance with manual weed picking was a dismal failure.

Not surprisingly, Coldstream parks became over-run by weeds, & needed to be totally renovated. Moreover, a baseball diamond had to be completely renovated with re-surfacing & new shale. The regional district of North Okanagan spent 3,000-dollars to bring the baseball diamond up to standard since the weeds left it in an unusable condition for playing safely.

Because of harmful-prohibition, residents in Vernon could only expect green spaces that were pest-infested & dangerous garbage dumps. Vernon’s playing surfaces had become thin & yellow, & over-run with weeds, resulting in the destruction of safe turf playing surfaces. Residents could also expect hazardous slipping & tripping conditions in sports turf, with children becoming seriously hurt. The use of pest control products actually prevents slipping injuries on sports turf. Vernon’s children needed pest-free sports fields to avoid falling & hurting themselves. Organic pesticide-free maintenance represented a danger for children.
