Manitoba’s NDP Government introduced a pesticide ban in Manitoba based on only attracting a few votes.
The ban does nothing to protect anyone because farmers and golf courses pour thousands of gallons of these banned pesticides each summer into the environment.
These chemicals, if used properly and minimally on your lawn and on public grounds, can be a safe way to keep our lawns and communities looking beautiful.
Educating people on the proper use of these chemicals is the answer.
A healthy lawn means less chemicals.
If the NDP wanted to protect anyone why are they not banning it for farming and especially on a golf course ?!?!

The new Progressive Conservative government is REVIEWING Manitoba’s 2013 Provincial Prohibition.
According to Ms Cathy Cox, Manitoba’s Minister of Sustainable Development ―
Manitoba’s New Government takes public health and safety very seriously and we will be REVIEWING the legislation to ensure that it is in the best interests of Manitobans.
In the spirit of consultation, we are happy to meet with stake-holders to discuss their concerns.
Part of the process will also be to consider legislation in other jurisdictions to look at best practices.
The move comes following the Association of Manitoba Municipalities speaking out, REQUESTING THE PROVINCE REVIEW AND EVENTUALLY OVERTURN Manitoba’s 2014 Provincial Prohibition.
Manitoba’s 2013 Provincial Prohibition requires lawn care companies and municipalities to use Green Alternative Pesticides like Fiesta Herbicide.
Around Winnipeg, boulevards and lawns covered in dandelions have turned from a sea of yellow to white.

On top of cost, Mr Masi said many of the Green Alternative Pesticides DO NOT have the same impact.
Mr Masi says it requires A LOT MORE Green Alternative Pesticide to have the same impact as conventional products allowed before the Manitoba’s 2013 Provincial Prohibition.
The AMM is asking the province to REVIEW the Manitoba’s 2013 Provincial Prohibition and hopes it is OVERTURNED.
For example, the town of Steinbach says in 2014 it spent 16,000 dollars on weed control.
In 2016, to perform THE SAME weed control with the approved products, it would cost 200,000 dollars.
Steinbach staff say it will NOT be spending the extra money this spring and summer to beautify lawns and garden.
City of Winnipeg says there are products to control the weeds, but they are MORE EXPENSIVE than ones Manitobans were previously allowed to use.
City of Winnipeg says there are more dandelions in 2016 because of Manitoba’s 2013 Provincial Prohibition.
In addition to mowing, the city is using natural methods such as top soil dressing, and aerating athletic fields. [ None of these practices will control invasive and damaging weeds. ]

• Manitoba’s towns and cities are STRUGGLING to curb the spread of weeds in 2016, and it’s all due to Manitoba’s 2013 Provincial Prohibition against pest control products used in the Urban Landscape.
• In place of the PROHIBITED products, Green Alternative Pesticides are STUNNINGLY MORE EXPENSIVE and are LESS EFFECTIVE.
• Manitoba’s 2013 Provincial Prohibition resulted in a WEED BOOM that is COSTING MORE TIME AND MORE MONEY for municipalities.

Municipalities are really feeling the COST CRUNCH of trying to keep the [ same ] level of service as they have in the past, while at the same time deal with the INCREASED COSTS that are significant.
You have to use more of [ Green Alternative Pesticides ] on your lawns, and therefore more of it is going into the sewer systems.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION ― It is WRONGLY ASSUMED that Green Alternative Pesticides like Fiesta Herbicide SOMEHOW WORK AS WELL as CONVENTIONAL pest control products like Killex ― THIS IS FALSE ! Fiesta is an INFERIOR product ! Fiesta DOES NOT WORK since weeds are NOT controlled or destroyed ! Conversely, Killex DOES control weeds and DOES destroy weeds. Fiesta DOES NOT WORK since it DOES NOT CONTROL WEEDS, it merely SUPPRESSES THEM. ALL RATES of Fiesta LEAD TO SOME RE-GROWTH OF DANDELIONS regardless of which of the rates are used. Mr Masi also worries that an INCREASE IN WEEDS IN GRASSY PUBLIC SPACES may give tourists a BAD IMPRESSION of Manitoba destinations ―
The municipalities want to do a good job to keep their communities looking [ good ].
The costs are just becoming far more than they can handle to deal with this problem.

Mr Masi said he is not alone in questioning whether Manitoba’s 2014 Provincial Prohibition, as it was written, is really necessary.
Mr Masi maintains that Health Canada says pest control products like Glyphosate ( one of the herbicides PROHIBITED in Manitoba ) is safe.
It isn’t clear why Manitoba would impose its Provincial Prohibition against pest control products used in the Urban Landscape ―
Previously, things were controlled better with what was used.
It was a federally-approved pesticide, so if the federal government has approved it, why in Manitoba do we feel we now have to prohibit ?!?!
I’m not sure really at the end of the day what we’re accomplishing with this regulation [ i.e. PROHIBITION ].
In spring 2016, the World Health Organization said glyphosate, which is found in Roundup, is “probably carcinogenic.”

AMM President Chris Goertzen, of the City of Steinbach, says AMM remains consistent with its position ―
