On November 20th, 2017, the town of Qualicum Beach had the TEMERITY to arbitrarily grant an EXCEPTION STATUS for the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club, allowing it to use pest control products for mere cosmetic enhancement.
The town council has been perpetually APOLOGIZING FOR ITS FAILURES of imposing its prohibition against conventional pest control products by legislating a by-law that has allowed HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of inconsistent and unfair EXCEPTION STATUSES.
Its latest APOLOGY is to the lawn bowling industry, that has now been granted its own EXCEPTION STATUS.

In essence, officials at Qualicum Beach have confirmed that their prohibition has created the catastrophic ecological carnage of uncontrolled, invasive, destructive, cosmetically ruinous pests !
Without conventional pest control products, green spaces, including bowling greens, become pest-infested and cosmetically unattractive garbage dumps because it is impossible to control invasive and destructive pests by using so-called green alternative pesticides and practices.
Town council has an added incentive for allowing a BOWLING GREEN EXCPTION STATUS.
In September 2018, Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club is scheduled to host the Canadian Mixed Pairs Championships.

They consist of OLD CHEMISTRIES THAT ARE LESS TESTED by national regulatory agencies.
Qualicum Beach’s government-guided FORCED SELECTION has NOT provided anyone with truly « green products ».
Conversely, the pesticide manufacturing industry already offers its own versions of « green products » ― every single time it creates new products.
The assessment proving that these products are scientifically-safe is a process that can take up to ten years and cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
The cost to pesticide manufacturing industry to get every pest control product from the lab to store shelves is about 250 million dollars.
These products are proven to be useful and safe at affordable prices ― they can only be considered as REAL « green products », and NOT so-called green alternative pesticides.
The pesticide manufacturing industry’s market-driven and scientifically-assessed « green products » are INFINITELLY SUPERIOR to Qualicum Beach’s government-driven green alternative pesticides.

Some observers are incredulous that Qualicum Beach allowed an arbitrary EXCEPTION STATUS for the golf industry.
Qualicum Beach’s provision for this GOLF EXCEPTION STATUS represents another example of the FAILURE and the RIDICULOUSNESS of its anti-pesticide prohibition.
Qualicum Beach’s GOLF EXCEPTION STATUS is INCONSISTENT and UNFAIR because golf facilities employ the very same ingredients that are used to control pests that damage city-owned green spaces & residential properties.
If it is safe for children and adults to walk and play on pesticide-treated golf facilities, then why is it not safe for them to walk and play on pesticide-treated lawns ?!?!
What is a solution ?!?!
In order to be consistent and fair, Qualicum Beach must provide NO EXCEPTION STATUS for golf facilities unless they adhere to a proposal that there will be a transition to more pest resistant turfgrass varieties.
For example, all golf facilities in Qualicum Beach should be expected to transition their putting greens from annual bluegrass to creeping bentgrass.
Improved varieties of creeping bentgrass are more resistant to pests than annual bluegrass, an invasive grass species that is highly susceptible to diseases and insects and requires more chemicals for playability as well as for cosmetic enhancement.
Nonetheless, Qualicum Beach’s municipal prohibition against conventional pest control products has become a DISMAL FAILURE.
