David Kinney, Director of Department of Public Works, ACTED IN THE NICK OF TIME TO SAVE HYDE PARK WITH PESTICIDE TREATMENTS.
But the City of Niagara Falls’ Hyde Park Golf Course was ALMOST LOST ― or rather IMMEASURABLY DAMAGED ― because NO ONE APPLIED PESTICIDES ALL SUMMER.
On September 16th, 2013, the Niagara Falls City Council voted to approve an EMERGENCY PESTICIDE CONTRACT.
The 12,250-dollar EMERGENCY PESTICIDE CONTRACT was awarded to Turf USA, a company owned by Charles Calabro of Niagara Falls.
Calabro is a Licensed Pesticide Applicator by New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation ( DEC ).
Calabro will perform FIVE CURATIVE PEST CONTROL TREATMENTS.
He has already started and will continue until December 10th, 2013.
The prognosis is good, according to Calabro.

While the PESTICIDE-FREE CATASTROPHE justified an EMERGENCY PESTICIDE CONTRACT, which was handed out without bidding, it appears likely the Golf Course turf by 2014 will be looking pretty green, THANKS TO THE APPLICATION OF PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS.
According to Charles Calabro of Turf USA ―
You had it all year where they NEGLECTED it, and now we have to cram it down in three months to get it back to normal conditions.
They would have NEVER SURVIVED if they waited.
Once the freeze comes, it’s over.
They would have LOST a good portion of many of the greens.
David Kinney, Director of Department of Public Works, called the need to hire Calabro and Turf USA an EMERGENCY, created, he said, by the fact that the long-time employee, Paul Dickinson, who Hyde Park’s only Licensed Pesticide Applicator, either was either suddenly terminated or forced to retire.
As Dickinson was nearing the end of tenure, NO preparation was made for his replacement.
And while Dickinson planned to retire March 2014, he decided to quit in Spring 2013.
