――――――――――――――――――――
Re-Entry Intervals
Re-Entry Intervals ( a.k.a. Restricted-Entry Intervals ) are necessary to ensure that any pest control product residues on the treated turfgrass surfaces DO NOT pose an unacceptable risk to human health.
Re-Entry Intervals reflect the amount of time required for pest control product levels to dissipate ( either from uptake into the turfgrass plant, or by degradation through natural processes ) to a level that is well below any point of concern.
Re-Entry Intervals are established using a science-based approach to predict the amount of dislodgeable foliar residues ( DFR ) and turf transferrable residues ( TTR ) that may be deposited onto the skin from contact with any treated turfgrass surface.
Re-Entry Intervals are determined in order to protect people against potential harm from pest control products applied to turfgrasses.

Early Research With 2,4-D & Dislodgeable Residues
After a pest control product DRIES ON THE LEAF, it is DIFFICULT, IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE, TO DISLODGE RESIDUES OFF THE LEAF SURFACE.
This was the conclusion of Dr Gerald R Stephenson and his research team in 1984 and again in 1987.
In August 1984, according to Dr Stephenson, with Mark K Sears and Dean G Thompson ―
In field studies … LESS THAN 5 PER CENT of [ 2,4-D Herbicide ] originally applied could be dislodged with a cheese-cloth wipe at day 0.
DISAPPEARANCE OF DISLODGEABLE RESIDUES WAS VERY RAPID.
Less than 0.01 per cent of the applied chemical was dislodgeable after 1 day in turf that received 18 mm of rainfall 1 hour after spraying.
Residues in turfgrass that received no rainfall required 7 days to dissipate to the same level.
In a study in which the clippings were not removed, the disappearance of dislodgeable residues, when the turf was mowed at 3, 7, and 11 days after application, was nearly as rapid as in unmowed turf.
Dr Gerald R Stephenson was Professor, Department of Environmental Biology, University of Guelph.

Professional Lawn Care Industry – Wait Until Dry
ALL of the pest control products used for professional lawn care maintenance have NO interval requirement other than …
Keep People Off Treated Area Until Foliage Is Dry
Here are 13 examples ― Wait Until Dry
• Acelepryn Insecticide
• Arena 50 WDG Insecticide
• Chipco Sevin T&O Carbaryl Insecticide
• DeltaGard SC Insecticide
• Demand CS Insecticide ( For Ants )
• Fiesta Turf Weed Killer ( Green Alternative )
• Killex Turf Herbicide Liquid Concentrate

• Quali-Pro Imidacloprid 0.5 Granular Insecticide
• Quali-Pro Imidacloprid 75 WSP Insecticide
Typically, for ALL pest control products used for professional lawn care maintenance, the Health-Canada-approved labels state ― Keep People Off Treated Area Until Foliage Is Dry.
When these products are properly used, label directions stipulate that in order to minimize any unnecessary exposure, it is good practice for parents to keep their children and pets off treated lawns until residues are DRY.
A few minutes after the application has DRIED, pest control products will cause NO harm to anyone.
There is NO problem with children and adults playing on a DRIED treated surface after a pest control application.
Moreover, pest control products are applied at very low doses, and DO NOT present a concern to children … and even pets.
In fact, MEDICATION is the leading cause of harm in children, and NOT pest control products.
Children are going to spend a life-time being exposed to all sorts of chemicals ― auto exhaust, chlorine, perfume, smoke, soap, soot ― and they will continue to be SAFE.
The safety assessments of pest control products by Health Canada and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ( US EPA ) DO take children into consideration.
These safety assessments DO consider children’s physiology, behaviours, and habits while playing on treated grass.
No one needs to worry about children, adults, and pets, playing in pesticide-treated grass since all pest control products are federally-approved, scientifically safe, practically non-toxic, and will cause NO harm, even to children, and even to pets.

WorkSafeBC Guidelines – Ridiculous & Arbitrary
Wherever Re-Entry Intervals seem to have been overlooked, provincial agencies like WorkSafeBC are inclined to concoct some ridiculous, arbitrary, and exaggerated guidelines ?!?!
In fact, if a Re-Entry Interval is not found on a label, this is because it has been determined to NOT BE NECESSARY.
Nonetheless, according to WorkSafeBC guidelines ―
WorkSafeBC Regulations for Occupational Health and Safety also have restrictions for workers re-entering areas treated with pesticides.
Workers may not enter a treated field until they have waited the required re-entry interval.
Workers should follow the re-entry interval on the label.
If there is no re-entry interval on the label, [ then ridiculous and arbitrary WorkSafeBC guidelines can be used to concoct exaggerated intervals ].
Overall, WorkSafeBC has suggested ONLY Re-Entry Intervals of either 24 or 48 hours. ( See below. )
SLIGHTLY TOXIC PRODUCTS IN THEIR CONCENTRATED FORMS
WorkSafeBC’s Unnecessary Guidelines Suggest A Re-Entry Interval Of 24 Hours
LD50 Dermal ― greater than 1000 mg ⁄ kg
LD50 Oral ― greater than 500 mg ⁄ kg
MODERATELY OR VERY TOXIC PRODUCTS IN THEIR CONCENTRATED FORMS
WorkSafeBC’s Unnecessary Guidelines Suggest A Re-Entry Interval Of 48 Hours
LD50 Dermal ― less than 1000 mg ⁄ kg
LD50 Oral ― less than 500 mg ⁄ kg
When Re-Entry Intervals are amateurishly concocted by using WorkSafeBC guidelines, based upon the acute product toxicity in the concentrated form, the outcome is always a 24-Hour Re-Entry Interval ( or more ).
According to statements on product labels, there are NO pest control products used on golf courses and for professional lawn care that require a Re-Entry Interval that is beyond 12 hours, and certainly, there are NONE where 48 hours is required.
WorkSafeBC is concocting ridiculous and arbitrary guidelines for WHOPPING 24-Hour Re-Entry Intervals.
Here are 4 examples ― WorkSafeBC
• Green GT Flowable Fungicide
No Interval Is Indicated On The Label – Nonetheless WorkSafeBC’s
Unnecessary Guidelines Suggest A Re-Entry Interval Of 24 Hours
• Merit Granular Insecticide
No Interval Is Indicated On The Label – Nonetheless WorkSafeBC’s
Unnecessary Guidelines Suggest A Re-Entry Interval Of 24 Hours
• ProTurf Granular Fungicide X
No Interval Is Indicated On The Label – Nonetheless WorkSafeBC’s
Unnecessary Guidelines Suggest A Re-Entry Interval Of 24 Hours
• Quali-Pro Iprodione 240 SE Fungicide
No Interval Is Indicated On The Label – Nonetheless WorkSafeBC’s
Unnecessary Guidelines Suggest A Re-Entry Interval Of 24 Hours
In other words, WorkSafeBC is UNNECESSARILY EXAGGERATING the risks of certain pest control products that have actually been evaluated as NOT REQUIRING Re-Entry Intervals.
–
With its WorkSafeBC guidelines defying the label directions approved by Health Canada, the government of British Columbia is clearly VIOLATING FEDERAL PESTICIDE LAWS.

Golf Industry – Wait 12 Hours
A very small number of pest control products used for golf course maintenance have a requirement of …
Re-Entry Interval Of 12 Hours
Here are 5 examples ― Wait 12 Hours ( Except Heritage MAXX )
• Banner MAXX Fungicide ― Re-Entry Interval Of 12 Hours
DO NOT allow entry into treated area for 12 hours following application.
• Compass 50 WG Fungicide ― Re-Entry Interval Of 12 Hours
DO NOT enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval ( REI ) of 12 hours.
• Heritage MAXX Fungicide ― Re-Entry Interval Of 4 Hours
Now changed to … Do not enter or allow entry into treated turf until residues are dry.
• Iprodione Turf & Ornamental Fungicide ― Re-Entry Interval Of 4-12 Hours
DO NOT re-enter treated areas within 12 hours. If required, individuals may re-enter treated areas within 12 hours for short-terms tasks not involving hand labour if at least 4 hours have passed since application and long pants, long-sleeved shirt, hat, protective eyewear and chemical resistant gloves are worn.
• Kabuto 400SC Fungicide ― Re-Entry Interval Of 12 Hours
Do not enter or allow worker entry into treated areas during the restricted entry interval ( REI ) of 12 hours.
There are NO pest control products applied to golf courses that require a Re-Entry Interval that is beyond 12 hours, and certainly, there are NONE where 24 or 48 hours is required.

Re-Entry Intervals
Ridiculous Golf Ball Controversy
Residues from pest control products will cause NO harm to golfers.
Re-Entry Intervals are set to ensure that any remaining pest control product residues on the treated surface DO NOT pose an unacceptable risk to golfers.
Nonetheless, the so-called contamination of golf balls is virtually non-existent, and, most likely, well beyond any level of scientific detection.
Any golf ball, unlike food crops, has a smooth and impervious surface, and is highly unlikely to capture even the smallest amounts of ingredients.
Moreover, it is common knowledge that any pest control ingredient that is applied to a turfgrass surface will securely bond onto the leaves.
Hence, they will cause NO harm to golfers.
Historically, false allegations about golfer safety have been used by pesticide-hating fanatжcs in attempts to destroy otherwise safe and effective pest control ingredients like chlorothalonil.
The safety of chlorothalonil and its dislodgeable residues was questioned after the death of a golfer in 1982.
Unfortunately, « Golf Magazine » and « Golf Digest » exacerbated this issue with a treacherous article entitled « Killer Courses ».
These magazines betrayed the Golf Industry.
Scientific studies on dislodgeable foliar residues ( DFR ) and turf transferrable residues ( TTR ) have determined that the vast majority of pest control products used for applications on turfgrasses have NO re-entry interval requirement other than … keep people off treated area until foliage is dry.
There will be NO problem with golfers playing on a dried treated surface after a pest control application, which is applied at extremely low doses.
After an ingredient dries on the leaf, it is difficult, if not impossible, to dislodge residues off the leaf surface ( and onto the impervious surface of a golf ball ).
Overall, there are NO valid reports of any problems with golfers.
These ingredients are scientifically-safe, and WILL NOT cause harm to golfers, or the environment.

Turf Transferrable Residues
According to Health Canada ―
Dislodgeable foliar residues ( DFR ) and turf transferrable residues ( TTR ) are measurements of pesticide residue on foliage and turf that can be transferred to human skin and clothing. They are used by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency ( PMRA ) when determining post-application human exposure and risk to pesticides.
Generally, residues are highest immediately after an application ( initial DFR or TTR ) and decline over time due to various mechanisms including transformation into smaller compounds and mechanical removal due to rain. As the degree of potential exposure is related to the amount of chemical remaining on the foliage, exposure should decrease over time.
During the 1990s, a standard technique was developed for measuring the amount of residues on turf that are available for transfer onto a person’s skin or clothing. This technique, called the Modified California Roller method, was developed by the industry-based Outdoor Residential Exposure Task Force and supported by Health Canada’s PMRA, the California Department of Pesticide Regulation , and the USEPA, as it produced the most consistent results across samples, active ingredients, formulation types and time, than the other available techniques. The Modified California Roller method involves pushing a weighted roller five times across a 0.7 m2 area of cotton cloth that is securely fastened to turf-covered ground in order to collect residues. Residues removed in this manner represent residues that are on the surface of turf and available for transfer; which are termed TTR.
In the absence of a chemical-specific TTR study, the PMRA’s default value for turf transferrable residues had been 5% of the application rate for the initial ( day 0 ) TTR value with a dissipation rate of 10%/day. This initial TTR default value was from the USEPA Residential SOP ( 2001 ) and was based on evidence that suggested the transferability from the California Roller technique was less than 5% of the application rate ( ~ 1 to 3% observed in various indoor carpet and proprietary studies ). It was noted that studies conducted with the Modified California Roller method appeared to have much lower transfer efficiency than the original version of the roller used to determine the initial TTR default value.

For sod farms and all other crops ( unless referred to specifically elsewhere ), do not re-enter treated areas for 12 hours.
There are NO pest control products applied to sod farms that require a Re-Entry Interval that is beyond 12 hours ( except Banol ), and certainly, there are NONE where 48 hours is required.

Trade Association Adoption WorkSafeBC Guidelines
With its WorkSafeBC guidelines, the government of British Columbia is clearly VIOLATING FEDERAL PESTICIDE LAWS.
And sadly, the fanatжcal and uneducated leadership of Western Canada Turfgrass Trade Association ( WCTA ) has publicly adopted the ridiculous and arbitrary guidelines of WorkSafeBC.
In fact, some of the leadership has shown an inclination towards an overall 24-hour Re-Entry Interval for ALL pest control applications, in defiance of the label directions approved by Health Canada.
WCTA leaders are betraying the Golf Industry with their amateurish evaluations and non-expert discussions.
All of a sudden, WCTA leaders have become experts on evaluating the safety of pest control products.
NOT !
Why is WCTA doing this ?!?!
As usual, WCTA leaders fanatжcally conspire to dominate its membership, and the Golf Industry, by spreading mis-information and fake-news about pest control products.
In fact, if a Re-Entry Interval is not found on a label, this is because it has been determined to NOT BE NECESSARY.
The fanatжcal and uneducated leadership of WCTA would have everyone believe that their fake-research and bogus-education campaigns are designed to protect the worker in the Golf Industry.
In fact, the message being sent by WCTA is … listen to us, and DO NOT listen to Health Canada.
Both WCTA and WorkSafeBC have failed to understand federal pesticide law ―
Pest control products are to be used only in accordance with the directions on the label.
It is an offence [ i.e. violation ] under the [ federal pesticide law named ] Pest Control Products Act to use these products in a way that is inconsistent with the directions on the label.
They are both VIOLATING FEDERAL PESTICIDE LAWS.
Everyone must remember that Re-Entry Intervals are established using science-based research, and NOT by amateurish evaluations and non-expert discussions.
Under these circumstances, since the WorkSafeBC guidelines clearly violate federal pesticide laws, trade associations like WCTA should be lobbying the government of British Columbia to cease and desist.
In fact, both the provincial government and WCTA should be simply recommending to follow the label directions ― end of argument.
–
Neither organization has any REAL experts on these issues ― WCTA leaders and WorkSafeBC civil servants have NO training, NO education, and NO background in these matters.
They should both cease and desist their subversive actions of needlessly burdening the Golf Industry by ridiculously and arbitrarily exaggerating the interpretation of the label directions for pest control products.
Only Health Canada has the essential expertise on Re-Entry Intervals, and NOT WorkSafeBC, and NOT WCTA.

WE SPEAK THE WHOLE TRUTH WITH UPDATES ON RE-ENTRY INTERVALS !
We are the National Organization Responding Against HUJE that conspire to destroy the Green space & other industries ( NORAHG ).
NORAHG is a non-profit & independent organization that reports on the work of several highly-rated leading experts who have recognized expertise, training, & background in matters concerning pest control products, & who promote environmental realism & pesticide truths.
NORAHG produces UPDATES, a series of reports & blogs providing PRACTICAL INFORMATION on issues such as Golf Course Maintenance, Green Alternatives, Lawn Care Maintenance, Summer Stress, Tree & Shrub Maintenance, Turfgrass Pests, & Turfgrass Species.
UPDATES is destined for the green space industry, nation-wide across Canada, the United States, & overseas, & can be found on The Pesticide Truths Web-Site … https://pesticidetruths.com/
UPDATES is committed to SOUND SCIENCE, as well as ground breaking original reporting that informs, entertains, & creates real change.
All information, excerpts, & pictures contained in UPDATES were retrieved from the Internet, & may be considered in the public domain.
The information presented in UPDATES is for preliminary planning.
Before making a final decision, the turf manager is expected to obtain trusted expert advice from extension specialists, local distributors and/or agronomists.
All decisions must take into account the prevailing growing conditions, the time of year, & the established management practices.
All products mentioned in UPDATES should be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s directions, & according to provincial, state, or federal law.
For the official advantages, benefits, features, precautions, & restrictions concerning any product, the turf manager must rely only on the information furnished by the manufacturer.
The mention of trade names does not constitute a guarantee or a warranty.
NORAHG also produces Force Of Nature, which dares to defy the pesticide-hating fanatжcs by exploring the whole truth from an independent perspective on The Pesticide Truths Web-Site … https://pesticidetruths.com/
