I Loved The Golf Industry From The Start
I Had No Doubt That I Wanted To
Become A Golf Course Superintendent
As a teenager growing up in Lachute, Quebec, and following a hockey injury, Mr Meyer’s focus turned to the golf industry thanks to the INFLUENCE of his brothers-in-law.

Mr Meyer enrolled at University of Guelph, renowned for the necessary EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE needed to attain superintendent status.

The Inability To Communicate Is Probably One
Of The Biggest Downfalls Of A Superintendent
Mr Douglas Meyer has known for a long time that LISTENING is an important part of the communication process.
His effective listening has been a skill that was required in all of his POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS with golfing-members.
According to Mr Meyer ―
COMMUNICATION is probably one of the biggest downfalls of a superintendent.
The inability to communicate and to say what’s going on with the course.
Mr Meyer has also stated ―
I don’t spend as much time on paperwork as I did before.

Beaconsfield is much more demanding in that factor, so that’s what I do.

Cedarbrook
Turf Manager ⁄ Superintendent At
Cedarbrook Golf & Country Club
a.k.a. Val des Lacs Golf Club
ClubLink Quebec Regional Manager ⁄
Superintendent At Both Cedarbrook Golf &
Country Club & Les Quatre Domaines Golf Club
Cedarbrook was created by renowned golf course architect Mr Howard Watson who designed and constructed 18 holes on two hundred acres of rolling land through which the meandering Jordan River flows.
Cedarbrook is located in the foot-hills of the Laurentian mountains, fifty kilometres north of Montreal.
It was founded by a group of nine businessmen from Montreal in 1958.
The course was opened in 1959, serving 275 senior members and their families.
Armed with his INCOMPARABLE SKILLS, Mr Douglas Meyer became the Turf Manager at Cedarbrook ( now called Club Val des Lacs ) in 1975 where he remained until 1998.
Throughout his tenure, Mr Meyer CONTINUOUSLY-IMPROVED the golf course.
According to Mr Meyer ―
Over the years, there has been a CONTINUING EVOLUTION of Cedarbrook Golf Course with the addition of extensive drainage installations, a fully automated irrigation system, green re-construction, and a comprehensive cart path system that is asphalted throughout the course.
Cedarbrook has one of the largest fleets of electric golf carts in Canada with eighty-five canopied carts in service.
When the ClubLink Corporation purchased Cedarbrook in 1999, Mr Meyer was tapped as Regional Manager ⁄ Superintendent for the province of Quebec.
That meant he ADEPTLY MANAGED BOTH Cedarbrook AND Les Quatre Domaines in Mirabel, as well as the construction of Le Maître de Mont Tremblant and the preliminary building work of Le Fontainebleu Golf Club in Blainville.

Le Maître
ClubLink Builder For The Construction Of
Le Maître De Mont Tremblant Golf Course
As Regional Manager ⁄ Superintendent at ClubLink Corporation in Quebec, Mr Douglas Meyer ADEPTLY MANAGED the construction of Le Maître de Mont Tremblant from 1999 to 2001.
Le Maître is a ClubLink platinum level and Fred Couples signature golf course, offering a challenging 18 holes with breathtaking views of the mountains and forests of the Laurentians.
Le Maître was designed by Masters champion Fred Couples who, along with architects Gene Bates, Graham Cooke, and Darrel Huxham, designed 18 superb holes along Rivière du Diable ( Devil’s River ) in Quebec’s spectacular Mont Tremblant region.
Ranked 35th in Canada and 2nd in Quebec by Score Golf in 2010.
According to Mr Meyer ―
Another accomplishment I am VERY PROUD of being involved in the CREATION of Le Maître Golf Club in Saint-Jovite with ClubLink Jim Molenhuis and Darrell Huxham.
It was a REWARDING EXPERIENCE to work with a group of professionals from the conception to the opening of a world-class golf course.

Beaconsfield
Turf Manager ⁄ Superintendent
At Beaconsfield Golf Club
When Beaconsfield came calling in 2001, Mr Douglas Meyer answered enthusiastically to see to the storied course, which was founded in 1904.
According to Mr Meyer ―
All along the way I have had the pleasure to work with and meet so many tremendous people.
In my years at Beaconsfield, I HAVE ENJOYED MAKING CERTAIN THE COURSE WAS THE BEST IT COULD BE.
Under the PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP of Mr Meyer as its HIGHLY-COMPETENT Turf Manager, golfing-members of Beaconsfield Golf Club had come to expect EXCELLENT PLAYING CONDITIONS as being par for the course, with its lush fairways and smooth-as-carpet greens.
According to Mr Meyer ―
At Beaconsfield, I’ve never been MORE RESPECTED.
The membership basically handed the golf course over to me to look after it and provide the BEST CONDITIONS possible.
If the good conditions are there, the respect is there.
If things are falling apart, well … that can be another issue.
There is a golf bag full of memories that Mr Meyer will carry from his time at Beaconsfield with the PROUDEST MOMENT coming in 2004 during Beaconsfield’s Centennial Celebrations with the Canadian Amateur Championship.
According to Mr Meyer ―
The club hosted the Canadian Amateur Championship.
It was a VERY PROUD MOMENT in my career, having the course in TOP SHAPE for all the great competitors.
When Mr Meyer RETIRED from his DISTINGUISHED CAREER in 2020, he was rewarded with a LIFE-TIME MEMBERSHIP at Beaconsfield.

Audubon
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary
Program For Golf Courses Is An Extremely
Important Aspect Of What We Do
While demonstrating his SPIRIT OF ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE, Mr Doug Meyer was responsible for obtaining and retaining The Certified Audubon Co-Operative Sanctuary Status at BOTH Beaconsfield Golf Club and Cedarbrook Golf and Country Club.
Under Mr Meyer’s EXPERT LEADERSHIP, Beaconsfield and Cedarbrook are part of an education and certification program that has helped these golf courses to protect their environment, to preserve their natural heritage, and to enhance their natural areas and wildlife habitats.
Mr Meyer’s wife Lynn held the title of Audubon Program Coordinator.
Maintaining a delicate balance with nature is all part of the environmental management practices set out by The Audubon Co-Operative Sanctuary Program For Golf Courses.
Mr Meyer’s ENVIRONMENTAL SUCCESSES at both Beaconsfield and Cedarbrook have INSPIRED other golf clubs in Canada to be more aware and conscious about the environment.
As of 2018, 74 golf clubs have joined The Audubon Co-Operative Sanctuary Program For Golf Courses.
Mr Meyer has said ―
It’s an EXTREMELY IMPORTANT ASPECT of what we do at Beaconsfield.
My wife ( Lynn ) basically oversees it, puts in about four hours a day in the Audubon program alone.
The paperwork is incredible.
Any pesticide that goes down on the course has to be recorded.
Fertilizers, insecticides, everything has to be recorded.
We’ve also got bird houses, nesting boxes, and a recycling program, that’s all part of Audubon.
According to Mr Meyer ―
It’s probably one of the MOST REWARDING things we have accomplished.
We have one person working 25 hours a week on the Audubon making sure things are intact.
Mr Meyer has stated ―
The program makes me constantly aware of my environmental responsibilities as a superintendent.
It has made me a better superintendent in that it encourages good record keeping, establishing pest thresholds, and requires responsible pesticide and fertilizer application.
More from Mr Meyer ―
Cedarbrook is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses.
This past summer, we adopted a local school and had grade six students build bluebird boxes from kits provided by the club.
Subsequently, the children spent a day at the course installing the nesting boxes, identifying bird species and learning about our bird habitat improvement program.
The school program was VERY REWARDING.
We have created naturalized areas on the course to provide for ground-nesting birds and other wildlife.
We were delighted to have three pairs of endangered eastern bluebirds successfully fledging four babies each in the boxes that the children made.
This is the first time these birds have been seen nesting in our area.
In addition, several pairs of tree swallows took advantage of the nesting boxes as well.
We hope to continue this program with the school next year.
Observers have pointed out that, overall, ALL golf course superintendents can be described as THE PLANET’S GREAT ENVIRONMENTALISTS who have been maintaining and conserving the world’s largest ground cover vegetation ― turfgrass ― for hundreds of years.
Their primary responsibility is to ensure that the paying-golfer is provided with HIGH-QUALITY PLAYING CONDITIONS AND AESTHETICS, while remaining committed to environmentally-sustainable practices.

Successes ―
• Revamping & Expanding The New National Educational Seminar Program • Developing New Seminars To Include Relevant Professional Development For Superintendents • Recognizing That Superintendents Are Becoming Managers • Sanctioning New Seminars That Were Made In Canada
• Ensuring That Seminars Will Be Held Nation-Wide
Details ―
Mr Douglas Meyer knew that CONTINUING EDUCATION is important to superintendents.
A superintendent’s primary responsibility is making sure that the paying-golfer is provided with HIGH-QUALITY PLAYING CONDITIONS AND AESTHETICS, while remaining committed to environmentally-sustainable practices.
These PLAYING CONDITIONS are the MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT, because a club’s GREATEST EXPENSE is course maintenance.
The demands for maintaining a golf course are DYNAMIC, and hence, the superintendent must remain UPDATED on the newest and latest technology and innovations with EDUCATIONAL SEMINARS.
In 1998, when Mr Meyer led CGSA as President, he stated ―
The ROLE of the superintendent has definitely CHANGED over the years, and it continues to do so.
More and more, SUPERINTENDENTS ARE BECOMING MANAGERS, and, as such, are increasingly finding themselves involved in the everyday decision-making of their clubs.
CGSA is adapting to these changes by EXPANDING THE NATIONAL PROGRAM expanding the national seminar program to include PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SEMINARS.
Mr Meyer and the board REVAMPED the National Seminar Program in 1995.
They RE-NAMED it the Canadian Seminar Series.
« MADE IN CANADA » seminars were DEVELOPED by Mr Meyer and the board so that they could be held in various parts of the country.
Nothing compares to Mr Douglas Meyer.
According to CGSA ―
The Canadian Seminar Series is a series of educational programs sponsored by the CGSA.
These SEMINARS are on topics that are RELEVANT to the Golf Course Superintendent and reflect the National Occupational Skills adopted by the association.
SEMINARS are offered prior to the Canadian Golf Course Management Conference and Trade Show and the CGSA Fall Field Day.
According to Tom Watson, a famous American professional golfer on the PGA Tour Champions ―
In this day and age, a golf-course superintendent must be an educator, scientist, agronomist, economist, and a good people manager.
If you put all this together with a love for a piece of earth, then you’ve got a good golf course superintendent.

According to CGSA ―
Student Scholarship Awards are awarded to CGSA student-members attending education programs as a means of enhancing their knowledge and skills for the turfgrass profession.
The FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE is meant to assist these members in becoming better qualified for their current employment.
By 1998, when Mr Meyer led CGSA as President, a new program, the CGSA / Toro Future Superintendent Award, was ADDED.
Furthermore, there are MANY MORE FUTURE SUPERINTENDENTS that Mr Meyer has INSPIRED throughout his career, helping them to become part of the golf maintenance family.
According to Darren Kalyniuk, 2020 CGSA President ―
[ Mr MEYER IS ] a huge supporter of our profession, and has been

CGSA National Conferences
Successes ―
• Ensuring That The National Conference
Was Available Nation-Wide • Inspiring
Superintendents To Learn From One Another
Details ―
Mr Douglas Meyer believed that superintendents must endeavour to expand their professional knowledge in order to improve themselves and their profession through the CGSA’s « NATIONAL CONFERENCES ».
In 1998, when Mr Meyer led CGSA as President, he stated ―
… [ ENSURING ] that our NATIONAL CONFERENCE moves across the country from coast to coast.
It is very important that we involve superintendents from all regions of Canada in our association.
We have much to learn from each other.
These conferences have been a part of CGSA since its FOUNDATION.
In Lachute, Quebec, the CGSA was FOUNDED in 1966.
The first founding « CONFERENCE ⁄ MEETING » took place at Lachute Golf Club on October 7th, 1966, with Mr Tom Johnston as host.
This meeting attracted forty-nine people, each of whom paid a membership fee of 5-dollars ― equivalent to 40-dollars in 2020.
Mr John B Steel was elected as President of CGSA.
He was the first and longest serving President from 1966 through 1968.
One year later, in 1967, the « FIRST ANNUAL NATIONAL CONFERENCE » was held at the Skyline Hotel, in Toronto.
By 1975, the « NATIONAL CONFERENCE », which was called Canadian International Turfgrass Conference & Trade Show, was transferred to CGSA from Royal Canadian Golf Association
( RCGA ).
By 2020, the « NATIONAL CONFERENCE » was re-named Canadian Golf Course Management Conference.
Mr Steel was followed by other prominent superintendents who also served as CGSA Presidents, such as ― David Gourlay Senior, Tom Johnston, Camil Labelle, DOUGLAS MEYER, and Gordon Witteveen.
Nothing will compare to these superintendents.

Winter Injury
Innovations ―
Preparing The Golf Course For Winter
By Using Sophisticated Cover Procedures
One Of The Most Important Aspects
Of Our Jobs As Turf Managers
Details ―
With the climatic conditions that occur during the Northern winter months, WINTER INJURY is a topic on the minds of Turf Managers like Mr Douglas Meyer.
According to Mr Meyer ―
In my opinion, preparing the golf course for winter is one of the MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS of our jobs as Turf Managers.
We all know that if we come through the winter nice and green, how much easier our jobs will be in the spring, and needless to say, how much happier our members will be.
Also, it saves a great deal of time and money which would have to be spent on over-seeding and aerification to bring the course back.
Mr Meyer had long-known that long-term ice accumulation will increase annual bluegrass sensitivity to WINTER INJURY.
When encased in ice, annual bluegrass is expected to be WINTER-KILLED in 45 days, and creeping bentgrass up to 150 days.
Mr Meyer was a MAJOR PIONEER who successfully mitigated these WINTER INJURY problems by using SOPHISTICATED COVER PROCEDURES.
More From Mr Meyer ―
Most golf courses in Eastern Canada use COVERS during the winter to protect the greens.
The timing of removal is critical and good judgment is essential for success.
If insulating COVERS are left in place too late in the spring, temperatures can rise to critical levels and cause heat damage. or even death to the turf.
On the other hand, if they are removed too early, tender turf can be subject to low-temperature kill as a result of the sudden change.
At the time of removal, if temperatures remain below freezing, a light PERMEABLE COVER can ease the transition from covered to unprotected state.
lf the course is open for play, it may be necessary to re-place COVERS at night until temperatures moderate.
I have found this procedure HELPFUL in reducing turf injury on greens in spring.
As well, I maintain a permanent TURF NURSERY on-site.
Thus, when I find small areas of winter ice damage or snow mold on greens, I’M ABLE TO KEEP MY MEMBERS HAPPY by patching the damaged areas early in the spring, and bringing greens into play right away.
This is a whole lot better than trying to rely on early germination of seed in bare areas during times of fluctuating spring temperatures.
Even more from Mr Meyer ―
The turf at Cedarbrook is predominantly POA ANNUA bentgrass.
Located in growing zone 4, each spring we must deal with the ravages of winter, especially on the fairways.
We pioneered the use of multiple layers of COVERS AND STRAW to protect the greens, a procedure that we have found to be EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE.
Tees are being RE-SODDED to newer dwarf Kentucky bluegrass varieties to better withstand the severity of the Quebec winters.

Diseases
Innovation ―
Suppressing Disease Problems
Removing Dew [ … ] Helps The Turf
To Dry Out More Quickly, Which In
Turn Lowers The Incidence Of Disease
Details ―
The following PRACTICES of DISEASE SUPPRESSION are valid, but they WILL NOT provide actual 100 PER CENT CONTROL.
The intensity of disease activity MAY be reduced, but it is IMPROBABLE that disease will be fully controlled without some use of fungicides.
Applications of conventional fungicides will still be necessary, ESPECIALLY PREVENTIVELY, although their frequency may be significantly reduced.
The PRACTICES that are employed for DISEASE SUPPRESSION can be classified into issues concerning SEVEN broad categories ― • mowing & dew removal • fertilization • irrigation • mechanical intervention • soil management • vegetation management • other practices.
The following details will provide recommendations for MOWING WHEN CONDITIONS ARE DRY to minimize the use of fungicides on the golf course ―
The PRACTICE OF REMOVING DEW before mowing can be performed by dragging a rubber hose between two utility vehicles.
And, the PRACTICE OF AVOIDING TO MOW until leaves are COMPLETELY DRY later in the day will DECREASE the spreading of disease, or STREAKING.
When conditions are dry, turf susceptibility will DECREASE for the following diseases ― • Brown Patch ( minimal decrease ) • Dollar Spot • Microdochium Patch ( a.k.a. Fusarium Patch ) • Pythium Blight.
According to Mr Douglas Meyer ―
During July and August at Cedarbrook, we spend an hour each morning REMOVING DEW from all the greens, tees, and fairways with a long rubber hose between two utility vehicles.
This helps the turf to DRY OUT more quickly, which in turn LOWERS THE INCIDENCE OF DISEASE.
Removing the morning dew has led to a thirty per cent REDUCTION IN FUNGICIDE application while still preserving healthy turf.
The DRIER TURF also facilitates mowing.
Clippings don’t clump as much, and the cut is cleaner.
Members, too, appreciate the DRIER CONDITIONS underfoot early in the morning.

Making Bunkers Perfect For Players
Golfers Want The Perfect Lie In The Bunker
Details ―
Bunkers ( a.k.a. sand traps ) are known as playing-hazards since they are designed to be impediments to the golfer’s progress toward the putting green.
They are shallow pits filled with sand, from which the ball is more difficult to play than from grass.
According to Mr Douglas Meyer ―
People want bunkers to be PERFECT.
They want the perfect lie in the bunker. [ … ]
A lot of people just don’t rake them.

Metal Shoe Spikes
Innovation ―
Eliminating Tearing-Up Problems
As A Turf Manager & A Golfer, I’m
Delighted With Results Of The Change
From Metal To Alternative Spikes
Details ―
In 1891, golf shoes with METAL SPIKES that screwed directly into the soles were introduced to help players stay anchored to the ground during a golf swing.
But the added traction came at a significant cost, by TEARING-UP ― • putting green surfaces • carpets • walk-ways • wooden bridges.
Then, along came the Softspike alternative in the 1990s.
According to Mr Douglas Meyer ―
From a maintenance stand-point, it’s great not to ruin mower blades with lost METAL SPIKES.
I find playing with ALTERNATIVE SPIKES easier on the legs and feet.
Overall, as a Turf Manager and a golfer, I’m delighted with results of the change from metal to ALTERNATIVE SPIKES at Cedarbrook.

Aerial Photography
Innovation ―
The Clever Use Of Manned Flight Long
Before Drones Were Common-Place
Details ―
In the 1990s, Mr Douglas Meyer was using AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY WITH AIRPLANES decades before DRONES were common-place.
AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY allowed Mr Meyer to survey and to evaluate all aspects of his golf courses.
According to Mr Douglas Meyer ―
There are a number of important uses I have found for AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY.
Assessing spring ice damage and examining drainage problems are examples.
Because ice damage generally occurs in low-lying areas with poor drainage, I try to fly after a heavy rain-storm to get pictures of areas on the fairways that have water accumulation.
These photographs then help provide support for drainage projects when you meet with your board of directors.
It is also an EXCELLENT TOOL for assessing turf disease.
Disease problems that appear endless can be outlined or delineated from the air.
In recent years, I have been experimenting with INFRA-RED PHOTOGRAPHY which provided a good indication of areas that are under stress.

Hobby Enthusiasm
Mr Doug Meyer has been a COMPETITIVE LOW-HANDICAP GOLFER.
He and the Canadian team WON the Ransomes International Tournament Greenkeepers & Superintendents Golf Tournament in 1991 ―
The Canadian team of Tom Charters, a six handicap player from Weston, Bob Heron, nine handicap from Beacon Hall, DOUG MEYER, FIVE HANDICAP FROM CEDARBROOK, and Robbie Robinson, five handicap from Hidden Lake, ably led by team manager Ken Olsvik in addition to wives and supporters, were not at all down-hearted about the sudden turn of events and to prove the point gave away a few lapel badges with the Canadian maple leaf to people in the clubhouse over lunch.
Mr Meyer participated with the Canadian team to WIN two more tournaments in 1996 and 1998 ―
In 1996, CGSA members Thom Charters, Bob Heron, DOUG MEYER, and Dean Morrison, along with six representatives from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of American ( GCSAA ), and two from the Argentinean Golf Superintendents Association, represented « the Americas » against the « Rest of the World » and WON, at the very first Hayter International Cup, in England.
In 1998, Sylvain Alarie, Mike Baden, DOUG MEYER and Dean Piller WON AGAIN in Atlanta, Georgia. This event although, not officially a replacement for, does fill the void when the international competition originally involving teams representing various countries known as the Ransomes Tri-Annual International Golf Tournament was suspended.
Mr Meyer has been an EXPERT HOCKEY PLAYER, and has been a GREAT FAN of the Montreal Canadians hockey team.
He has also been an AVID COLLECTOR of golf and hockey paraphernalia.
According to Mr Meyer ―
I’ve got between 400 to 500 hickory-shafted clubs, a golf ball collection that dates back to the feathery ball, and a complete collection of Tom Morris irons.

Sometimes it’s more interesting than playing golf. [ … ]
It gets to the point where you just have too much and it’s no longer a passion, probably a SICKNESS.
Is collecting a sickness or a mental disorder ? 🙂
This type of hoarding is a mental health disorder characterized by a persistent and powerful difficulty in getting rid of collected items, regardless of their value. 🙂

The Great Douglas Meyer & His Spirit Of Excellence
Urban Legend
According to William H Gathercole ―
This is one of my favourite stories.
A long time ago, my first encounter with Mr Doug Meyer was at a provincial golf superintendents’ convention.
At the time, he was an official with the local trade association.
At this particular convention, I knew absolutely no one, including Mr Meyer.
We were all milling around in a hallway, waiting for the opening of the doors to the convention hall.
While waiting, I struck up a conversation with several people.
During our exchange of pleasantries, one person unexpectedly stopped talking, and began gazing intently down the hallway.
He’s coming, he said reverently.
Who’s coming ?, I asked.
He’s here, he’s coming.
More and more people turned their gaze down the hallway.
Everyone quit chattering
The crowd became eerily silent, frozen in place, holding their breaths.
In the distance, the crowd parted open, and a man emerged.
It was like Moses dividing the waters. 🙂
The man was steadfast in his walk, his eyes filled with steely resolve, his beard Christ-like, and he was obviously unaware that he was the overwhelming center of attention.
As he walked past us, we could see his right hand firmly grasping the handle of a briefcase, as if it contained the secrets of the ages. 🙂
The doors to the convention hall were opened, allowing him to disappear from view, just like an apparition at Fatima. 🙂
With the grand entrance over, the crowd then resumed its chatter and became animated again.
Someone near me said, That was him.
That was who ?, I asked.
Doug Meyer. Doug Meyer.
And who is Doug Meyer ?, I asked.
Everyone looked at me with incredulity.
I had somehow offended them with my ignorance of their reverence.
Mr Meyer was clearly a hero, an icon, and an urban legend.
He was the saviour of our profession.
Now that he had arrived, all would be well.
Before the convention ended, I did actually introduce myself to Mr Meyer.
He was busy, strong, and determined, with little time available, but, nonetheless, he took a few moments to get to know me.
As we talked, he was studying those documents that he took out of his briefcase.
Did these documents really contain the secrets of the ages ?, I wondered.
Throughout the next several decades, his successes and his innovations would definitely lead to the great betterment of the profession.
Little did I know that he would become the superintendents’ greatest modern influence ever.
Perhaps he would become the saviour of our profession.
Our talk was soon cut short.
It had been a long day at the convention.
He packed his documents, closed his briefcase, and said, I must get back home to Lynn.
Lynn was his beloved wife and a huge influence on his career.
He would talk about her, and compliment her, all the time.
Doug and I would meet and talk several times in the coming months.
Little did either of us know that, one year later, I would be keeping him company, for many hours into the night, while his wife was giving birth to their first child, their daughter Karen.
In fact, I was the third person to have ever beheld her, after Doug and Lynn.
Many years later, as a teenager, Karen accompanied her Dad to one of my seminars.
During breaks, Doug would hold court with fellow-superintendents, while his daughter clung lovingly to him.
Clearly, he was not only a successful industry leader, he was also a great beloved father.
This is one of my favourite stories.
For decades, I have recounted this story many times.
And there are many more stories to tell. 🙂
I am grateful.
Doug and I have known one another for over forty years.
He has been my inspiration, my mentor, and my friend.
He was the only person who ever bothered to inquire about my well-being soon after my serious nearly-unsurvivable motor vehicle accident.
To most in the profession, he has been held in reverence as a hero and a legendary icon.
Almost an urban legend.
All superintendents must also be grateful.
Nothing compares to Mr Douglas Meyer.
