Sun City was established in 1960 northwest of Phoenix. One of eight courses in the Sun City development, Pebblebrook Golf Club was built in 1979.

According to Losch, there were two workers in the area when the bees emerged.

The second worker managed to flee the area and call for help.

Upon arrival, emergency officials said they were able to gain control of the situation by applying a foam retardant. 

~

They also closed the Pebblebrook Golf Club until the situation was under control. 

~

When co-workers approached the victim, they thought because he worked on a golf course that his face was covered with mower clippings. 

~

When they got closer they realized  HIS FACE WAS CARPETED WITH BEES .

Losch said officials were unsure what kind of stinging insects attacked the man.

The golf course had hired a bee-keeper to identify the insects, but a call to the golf course Thursday by TurfNet revealed the course had not yet heard back from the bee-keeper.

Losch was able to confirm, however, that Africanized bees, which are much more  AGGRESSIVE  than other types of bees, are found throughout Arizona.

A maintenance worker at an Arizona golf course was  ATTACKED BY BEES  over the weekend after encountering a bee-hive, first responders said. 

~

According to officials from Arizona Fire & Medical Authority ( AFMA ), a man in his 50s was  STUNG NEARLY 2,000 TIMES  at Pebblebrook Golf Course in Sun City West.

The city is in Maricopa County about 30 miles north-west of downtown Phoenix. 

~

When fire-fighters first approached the man, they initially thought he was covered in grass clippings, according to a spokesperson for AFMA.

But as they got closer, they discovered that they were bees instead.  [ I.E. HE WAS COVERED WITH BEES ]

Officials are not sure how the bees came to attack him, but fire-fighters dressed in bee hoods and turnouts to protect themselves  USED FOAM TO SUBDUE THE BEES  and allow them to rescue the man.

He was then taken to a hospital for treatment, as of Monday morning, the man remained intubated at the hospital.

The bee-keeper happened to be playing in a senior league competition which has been scheduled for the day and he used the opportunity to inspect the hive before a planned removal in the evening.
