A focus on  HEALTHY LIVING ,  CHRONIC DISEASES , and related  RISK FACTORS , mainly   ―   •   Cardio-vascular diseases ( CVDs ) ;   •   CERTAIN CANCERS ;   •   Chronic respiratory diseases ( CRDs ) ;   •   DIABETES .

A focus on  HEALTHY LIVING  offers a perspective that is particularly relevant to public health as these conditions represent the  LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH  and could largely be  PREVENTED . 

~

Most  PREMATURE DEATHS  are linked to common  RISK FACTORS , namely   ―   •   HARMFUL USE OF ALCOHOL ;   •   SEDENTARY BEHAVIOURS ;   •   TOBACCO SMOKING ;   •   UNHEALTHY DIET .

~

Addressing these  RISK FACTORS  and enhancing the management of these  CHRONIC DISEASES , and conditions, formed the basis of the  World Health Organization’s  ( WHO’s ) Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases ( NCDs ) 2013–2020 . 

~

In Canada,  4-in-5  Canadian adults have at least  1  MODIFIABLE RISK FACTOR . 

~

1-in-5  live with at least one of the following  4  MAJOR CHRONIC DISEASES   ―   •   Cardio-vascular diseases ( CVDs ) ;   •   CERTAIN CANCERS ;   •   Chronic respiratory diseases ( CRDs ) ;   •   DIABETES . 

~

2-out-of-3  of  ALL DEATHS  each year are caused by these  MAJOR CHRONIC DISEASES . 

~

In addition,  MOOD & ANXIETY DISORDERS  are also common among Canadians and account for the leading cause of  DISABILITY  for working age adults. 

~

These  4  CHRONIC DISEASES , along with  MOOD & ANXIETY DISORDERS , account for about  one-third  of direct health-care expenditures in Canada. 

~

This report from the  Public Health Agency of Canada  ( PHAC ) seeks to determine the level of health of Canadians. 

~

To do so, we looked at whether progress on  MAIN HEALTH INDICATORS  has been achieved in the last 10 to 15 years.

To these we have added  MOOD & ANXIETY DISORDERS , measured by use of health services, because of their major impact on the working age population.

MULTI-MORBIDITY , a relatively common phenomena among the elderly, has also been examined  ―

i.e.  2-or-more  of the  4  MAJOR  « physical »  CHRONIC DISEASES  co-existing, and  MOOD & ANXIETY DISORDERS  co-morbid with one of the  4  MAJOR  « physical »  CHRONIC DISEASES 

~

Moreover, several key  INTERNATIONAL HEALTH INDICATORS  are included   ―   •   Health-adjusted life expectancy  ( HALE ) ;   •   Infant / neonatal mortality ;   •   LIFE EXPECTANCY  ( LE ) ;   •   PREMATURE MORTALITY .

Finally, since those living with  CHRONIC DISEASES  are particularly affected by influenza infections, the report also provides information on influenza immunization coverage.

Remember, pest control products are stringently-tested & heavily-regulated in order to ensure that they are scientifically-safe,  WILL NOT  cause harm, &  WILL NOT  cause cancer.

Health Canada has stated that it is confident that the pest control products that it approves for use in Canada can be used safely when Approved Product Labels are followed.

Incident Reports are monitored by Health Canada to identify any potential risks to health or the environment from the use of pest control products & to take corrective actions when necessary.

The more serious individual Incident Reports may lead to an official evaluation & action.

The  Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development  ( OECD )  developed the  INTERNATIONALLY-ACCEPTED SCIENTIFIC STANDARDS  named Test Guidelines & Principles of Good Laboratory Practices  ( GLP ) .

GLP applies to ALL Risk Assessments that obtain data on properties & /or safety with respect to human health or the environment, for the purpose of supporting an application for registration.

The  CANCER INCIDENCE RATE  was 528 per 100,000  ASR  in  2000  and 507 per 100,000  ASR  in  2013 , with a  DECREASE  of  minus- 0.3% per year .

In general,  CANCER INCIDENCE RATES  **  are  HIGHER  in eastern Canada and  LOWER  in western Canada.

In  2013 , the  LOWEST  ASR  was observed in Yukon.

Pesticides causing cancer is a myth.

Prohibiting these products will prevent virtually no cancer-deaths.

These guidelines recommend  LIMITING  recreational screen time to no more than  2  hours per day for children and youth.

Re-Entry Intervals are necessary to ensure that any pest control product residues on the treated turfgrass surfaces  DO NOT  pose an unacceptable risk to human health.

These intervals reflect the amount of time required for pest control product levels to dissipate to a level that is well below any point of concern.

They are determined by Health Canada in order to protect people against potential harm from pest control products applied to turfgrasses.
