Invasive Pests
The Month Of August Dubbed « Tree Check
Month » To Detect Invasive Pests In Canada
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) is a regulatory agency that is dedicated to the safe-guarding of food, animals, and plants, which enhance the health and well-being of the nation’s people, environment, and economy.
The CFIA, and partners across North America, are marking August as « Tree Check Month ».
Throughout August, Canadians are encouraged to check their trees and gardens, or property they frequent, for signs of insects, disease, and fungi that harm plants.
Invasive species cause serious damage to our economy and environment.
Early detection is always better.
In recent years, Canadians have discovered some of the largest invasive threats to Canada.
Pests like Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, Asian Long-Horned Beetle, and Emerald Ash Borer, in new areas, were often first found by Canadians who reported them to CFIA.
Reporting to a CFIA local office or on-line if a pest is discovered helps CFIA direct teams to where they are needed most and respond before pests can spread.
CFIA’s INVASIVE PEST CARDS and FACT SHEETS provide information on what to look for and what to report.

Those wishing to learn more about invasive pests are encouraged to follow CFIA on social media for updates on pest movements and pest reporting.

Quick Facts
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) works with the United Nations and other partners at home and abroad to set science-based standards to PROTECT agricultural, forest, and other plant resources from regulated plant pests, while facilitating trade.
When a pest is found in a new area, CFIA confirms the pest’s identity and works with provincial/territorial, municipal, and other partners to determine the geographic spread, investigate the source and put in place measures to control and, when appropriate, eradicate the pest.
Invasive pests often hitchhike under the bark of untreated firewood.
That’s why it’s important to buy and burn local or heat-treated firewood.
Don’t move firewood.
There are also rules and best practices for industry to follow to minimize the risk of spreading invasive species.
Some of CFIA’s pests of concern include the following ―

Background Information
Emerald Ash Borer
Statement
Ash Trees Face Extinction By Emerald Ash Borer Unless
Conventional Insect-Control-Products Are Allowed
Summary
Five of the six most prominent ash tree species in North America are critically endangered by the Emerald Ash Borer Insect ― only one step from going extinct ― with the sixth species is merely endangered.
Ash trees comprise billion of trees in forest lands and urban landscapes, yet once the Emerald Ash Borer Insect has arrived in an area, it can kill all the mature ash trees in a matter of three to four years.
Emerald Ash Borer larvae cause a deterioration that leads to the trees’ inevitable death.
Unless conventional insect-control-products are used, residents had better get used to the sound of chain saws.
Once Emerald Ash Borer infestations had been detected within 10 to 15 miles of a municipality, it would have been suggested to start pro-active conventional insect-control treatments immediately.
By the time symptoms are noticeable, it is already too late to do anything to save the infested trees.
There is currently NO cure for an Emerald Ash Borer infestation, but if pro-active steps are taken, conventional insect-control treatments have proven effective in protecting ash trees.
So-called green alternatives, like TreeAzin injections, provide marginal control at best.
If TreeAzin is the only option, then it would be better that municipalities DO NOTHING rather than use TreeAzin.
Conventional insect-control-products that are, in fact, scientifically-safe, WILL effectively control the Emerald Ash Borer Insect.
Any prohibitions against these products will lead to tree damage and tree death.
Municipalities must either begin a program of conventional insect-control treatments, or remove and replace the threatened ash trees.
If prohibition against conventional insect-control-products has been self-imposed, it must be RESCINDED immediately.
Otherwise, residents may simply have to get used to the sound of chain saws !

Background Information
Japanese Beetle
Statement
Residents Had Better Get Used To Re-Sodding Their
Lawns, Year After Year After Year, Thanks To Pesticide Bans
Summary
In a nursery located in Riverton, New Jersey, the Japanese Beetle Insect was first discovered in 1916.
It has been speculated that the beetle had entered the United States in a shipment of iris bulbs prior to 1912, when inspections of commodities entering the country began.
By 1921, the Japanese Beetle larvae, white grubs, were first definitely observed injuring grass roots on putting greens at the Riverton Country Club in New Jersey.
As the name suggests, the Japanese Beetle is native to Japan.
It is NOT very destructive in Japan, where natural enemies control it.
In North America, it is a serious pest of grapes, rose bushes, and turfgrasses.
For decades now, it has destroyed tens of thousands of golf course putting greens and fairways.
In the larval stage, this insect feeds mainly on the fibrous roots, leaving behind dead grass and dead plants.
By 2001, this insect has spread across most of the Eastern US, except for Florida.
And by 2018, it has reached Vancouver, British Columbia.
By 2025, it will have completely infested BC’s Lower Mainland because of inept-incompetency and political-cowardice by government officials in Vancouver who currently have implemented ineffective control practices.
Unfortunately, in the 2000s, conventional insect-control-products have become the object of reckless and arbitrary prohibitions, such as in Vancouver and nearby BC’s Lower Mainland municipalities.
Residents have had to get used to destroyed and ravaged lawns since they are prohibited from using these safe and effective products.
With arbitrary prohibitions, green spaces have already become dangerous garbage dumps since it is IMPOSSIBLE to adequately control white grubs, like the Japanese Beetle Insect, without the use of conventional insect-control-products.
Throughout BC’s Lower Mainland municipalities, home-owners have NO other option than re-sodding their lawns, over and over and over again.
In fact, sod growers probably represent the ONLY industry that has actually profited from the garbage dump green spaces that have been inflicted by anti-pesticide prohibition.
If BC’s Lower Mainland municipalities truly want to save residential lawns from the Japanese Beetle ( and other types of white grubs ), then they should have their prohibitions RESCINDED.
Indeed, across North America, municipal officials are thinking twice about prohibition by looking at the experience of those jurisdictions that have suffered the hardship and stunningly exorbitant costs of #@!!% prohibition nonsense !

Must Become A Pest Of Concern
European Chafer
Statements
Why Isn’t The Uncontrolled European Chafer
Designated A « Pest Of Concern » By CFIA ?!?!
Anti-Pesticide Prohibitions Against Insect-Control-Products
Have Led To The Self-Inflicted Catastrophic Ecological
Carnage Of The European Chafer In The Urban Landscape
There Is No Hope For Controlling Infestations Of
European Chafer Unless Prohibitions Are Rescinded
CFIA Must Designate The European Chafer Insect
As A « Pest Of Concern », & End All Prohibitions
Against Safe & Effective Insect-Control-Products
Summary
Despite the overwhelming evidence demonstrating that conventional insect-control-products are scientifically-safe, several jurisdictions have nevertheless imposed local fanatжcal-prohibition against these products used in the urban landscape.
As a consequence of prohibition-failures that prevent everyone from using conventional products that are safe, economical, and effective, residential and municipal lawns have been destroyed and ravaged by destructive pests like the uncontrolled European Chafer Insect.
One single treatment per year of a conventional insect-control-product would be sufficient to control European Chafer.
Since 2001, when it was identified by Mr William H Gathercole, one of the foremost turfgrass experts in the nation, the European Chafer Insect has spread throughout British Columbia ( BC ), destructively infesting Lower Mainland municipalities like Burnaby, New Westminster, Metro Vancouver, Port Moody, and beyond.
And since 2001, the infestation of the uncontrolled European Chafer has dramatically increased, leading to catastrophic ecological carnage for tens of thousands of destroyed and ravaged lawns every single year !
Why Hasn’t The Uncontrolled European Chafer
Insect Become A « Pest Of Concern » Designated
By Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) ?!?!
Because of prohibition-failures, urban green spaces look like pest-infested garbage dumps ― in light of these failures, elected officials have been eager to return to using all banned products.
The European Chafer’s white grub stage have been eating the roots of lawn grasses, while the sheer number of them have brought attention to birds, raccoons, and other animals, that have been digging up and destroying and ravaging tens of thousands of lawns.
In response to this destructive infestation, some BC municipalities have empowered themselves as suppliers of inferior, ineffective, and expensive green alternative pesticides, like nematode insecticides, which DO NOT WORK !
Incredibly, some municipalities have even provided this product free-of-charge or with generously-discounted-prices.
In other jurisdictions, municipal prohibitions have forced home-owners to purchase inferior green alternative pesticides at three to five times the price of conventional insect-control-products that actually work.
Is there hope for controlling infestations of European Chafer Insects without conventional insect-control-products ?!?!
NO !
There is NO HOPE for controlling the #@!!% infestations of European Chafer Insects !
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) Must Designate
The Uncontrolled European Chafer Insect As A « Pest Of Concern »
A major study of the nation’s anti-pesticide prohibitions has concluded that prohibitions against pest control products are ridiculous and dismal failures that have led to catastrophic business, ecological, and financial carnage.
ALL municipalities desperately need conventional products in order to economically and effectively control recurring invasive weeds and destructive insects.
Consequently, municipal officials have been circumventing their own prohibitions by taking advantage of exception statuses that they have conveniently inserted in their by-laws.
In ALL cases, ALL municipalities have allowed the use of conventional pest control products on municipal green spaces, like sports fields.
Municipal exception statuses have been found to be necessary since, with prohibition, green spaces will inevitably become infested with recurring invasive weeds and destructive insects, which must be controlled annually in order for playing surfaces to remain safe and attractive.
These exception statuses have been conveniently incorporated into by-laws in order to allow municipal staff to circumvent their prohibitions, to arbitrarily suit the needs of cowardly and inept elected officials, and to falsely-maintain alignment of these officials with their left-wing political precepts and doctrines !
Some by-laws have even allowed the selling of exception status permits, hence becoming a predatory profit center for the municipality.
Exception statuses have represented the best examples of the dismal failures and the ridiculousness of fanatжcal-prohibitions !
In fact, there should be NO #@!!% exception statuses whatsoever !
Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) Must Designate The
Uncontrolled European Chafer Insect As A « Pest Of Concern »
Throughout BC’s Lower Mainland municipalities, home-owners have NO other option than re-sodding their lawns, over and over and over again.
In fact, sod growers probably represent the ONLY industry that has actually profited from the garbage dump green spaces that have been inflicted by anti-pesticide prohibition.
If BC’s Lower Mainland municipalities truly want to save residential lawns from White Grubs, then they should have their local pesticide bans RESCINDED.
Across North America, municipal officials are thinking twice about prohibition by looking at the experience of those jurisdictions that have suffered the hardship and stunningly exorbitant costs of this #@!!% nonsense.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) Must
Designate The Uncontrolled European Chafer Insect
As A « Pest Of Concern » To Stop The Catastrophic
Ecological Carnage For Tens Of Thousands Of
Destroyed & Ravaged Lawns Every Single Year
There are REAL trends against the conspiracy to impose prohibition against pest control products used in the urban landscape.
There are dozens and dozens of jurisdictions that have stopped or rescinded or limited or invalidated or beginning to repeal anti-pesticide prohibitions and restrictions, or granted professional lawn care businesses with an exception status.
There are more and more tremendous victories against anti-pesticide prohibition.
Canadian Food Inspection Agency ( CFIA ) Must
Designate The Uncontrolled European Chafer Insect
