The term COSMETIC PESTICIDES refers to pest control products used for NON-ESSENTIAL PURPOSES to improve the appearance of landscaping elements such as lawns, trees, gardens, shrubs and other ornamental plants.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION ― THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS NON-ESSENTIAL AND COSMETIC ! ― The Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Health Canada DOES NOT classify pest control products as « non-essential » or « cosmetic ». Pest control products are regulated by PMRA, which requires thorough scientific reviews and safety assessments to ensure they meet strict health and environmental standards and are shown to have value. Pest control products are one of the most stringently regulated products in Canada.
CAPE’s MOCK-REPORT stated significant progress has been made in reducing cosmetic pesticide use and sales across Canada; however, Newfoundland and Labrador, which only PROHIBITS a relatively small number of pesticides, WAS GIVEN A D-GRADE. [ Big Deal ! ]
The report stated RESIDENTS IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR HAVE VERY LIMITED PROTECTION FROM PESTICIDES. [ ?!?! ]
BACKGROUND INFORMATION ― NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR ARE PROTECTED WITH PESTICIDES THAT ARE SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE ! ― Health Canada, EPA, and other science-based national regulatory agencies have clearly demonstrated that pest control products used in the Urban Landscape are LESS TOXIC THAN Aspirin, baking soda, caffeine, cannabis, nicotine, table salt, and Tylenol. Additionally, these products are NO MORE TOXIC THAN ethanol ( an edible beverage constituent in beer, wine, and other intoxicating beverages ), mouthwash ( Listerine ), and Vitamin C. These pest control products are scientifically-safe, practically non-toxic, will cause NO harm, will NOT cause cancer, and will NOT cause irreversible damage if consumed orally. The probable lethal dose for a person ingesting the concentrated form of many of these products is ONE LITRE, the volume of an entire milk carton. By comparison, drinking SIX LITRES of water, a fluid that is seemingly harmless, can lead to water poisoning or dilutional hyponatremia, which is a potentially fatal disturbance in brain functions. In essence, water is only FIVE TIMES SAFER than many of these products.
The risk assessment of conventional pest control products indicates that they are SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE, and, when used properly, will NOT cause harm to children, people, animals, or the environment.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ― CAP-NL IS NOT COMPETENT TO ASSESS PESTICIDES ― Ostensibly, CAP-NL wants to IMPOSE AN ARBITRARY PROHIBITION against ALL pest control products, except those that it IDENTIFIES AS ACCEPTABLE AND SAFE. How will CAP-NL arrive at the conclusion that products are ACCEPTABLE AND SAFE ?!?! Will the ASSESSMENT by CAP-NL be based upon its vast scientific knowledge of pest control products ?!?! [ No ! ] Did CAP-NL ASSESS these products after spending time and money carefully studying their effects on health and environment ?!?! [ No ! ] Is CAP-NL even COMPETENT to give ANY advice concerning these issues ?!?! [ No ! ]
SECOND CAP-NL FANATICAL-RECOMMENDATION, ensure an IMPROVED PROHIBITION on TOXIC [ ?!?! ] PESTICIDES is sufficiently broad and covers all landscape elements and not just lawns.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION ― PESTICIDES ARE CLASSIFIED AS PRACTICALLY NON-TOXIC ― Three-way turf herbicide products, like Killex and Par III, ( containing the ingredients 2,4-D, mecoprop, and dicamba ) are used for the selective weed control in turf. Indisputable and conclusive risk assessments show that, as reported through Health Canada’s vast toxicology database, NO harm will occur when these pest control products are used properly. EVEN IN THEIR CONCENTRATED FORMS ( i.e. the product in its form prior to mixing with water ), the risk assessment for Killex and Par III is PRACTICALLY NON-TOXIC. In other words, these broad-leaved weed control products are NO MORE TOXIC than household items like TABLE SALT and even ASPIRIN. In fact, they are not only LESS TOXIC than TABLE SALT and ASPIRIN, but also baking soda, caffeine, cannabis, ethanol ( beer, wine, and other intoxicating beverages ), nicotine, Tylenol, and Vitamin C. By comparison, the risk assessment for Fiesta Herbicide, a so-called Green Alternative Pesticide, is also PRACTICALLY NON-TOXIC.
