Honeybee Colonies & Production Thriving – There Is NO Bee Crisis
Summary
In 2014, MITIGATION MEASURES implemented by the Agriculture Industry have been EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING BEE LOSSES.
The number of incidents of bee losses reported during the planting periods of 2014 and 2015 DECREASED BY APPROXIMATELY 70 PER CENT AND 80 PER CENT respectively from the numbers reported in 2013.
This represents a SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT.
Moreover, the total number of honeybee colonies in Canada increased by 3.6 PER CENT INCREASE in 2014, and is NINE PER CENT HIGHER than the previous five-year average population ( 2009 – 2014 ).
Additionally, reports from the 2016 planting season indicate that THE POSITIVE TREND WE’VE OBSERVED IN THE PAST TWO YEARS HAS CONTINUED.

Honeybees Are Rebounding
Steps taken to protect honeybees from crop protection products are working.
The number of honeybee colonies, and their level of production, has been RISING since 2013, according to testimony to Canada’s Senate Agriculture Committee.
Ms Andrea Johnson is Director General of Sector Development at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada ( AAFC ).
Ms Johnson told the committee the most recently available numbers are encouraging.
According to Ms Johnson ―
Canada’s 8,533 bee-keepers produced 95.3 million pounds of honey in 2015, UP 11 PER CENT FROM 2014.
This represents a value of over 232 million dollars.
Ms Johnson added the total economic contribution of honeybee pollination is thought to range from 3.15 billion to 4.39 billion dollars annually.
The total number of honeybee colonies in Canada reached 721,000 in 2015, which represents a 3.6 PER CENT INCREASE over 2014 and is NINE PER CENT HIGHER than the previous five-year average population ( 2009 – 2014 ), Ms Johnson added.
There was NO information on the state of wild bee species and other pollinators.
Mr Scott Kirby is Director of Environmental Evaluation at Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency ( PMRA ).
Mr Kirby said MITIGATION MEASURES implemented [ by the Agriculture Industry ] in 2014 have been EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING BEE MORTALITY.
According to Mr Kirby ―
The number of incidents [ of bee losses ] reported during the planting periods of 2014 and 2015 DECREASED BY APPROXIMATELY 70 PER CENT AND 80 PER CENT respectively from the numbers reported in 2013, which is a SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT.
Reports from the 2016 planting season indicate that THE POSITIVE TREND WE’VE OBSERVED IN THE PAST TWO YEARS HAS CONTINUED.
As for the three Neonicotinoid Insecticides, like imidacloprid, that are usually portrayed as the villains in bee deaths [ ?!?! ], Mr Kirby said a preliminary assessment for imidacloprid found NO SIGNIFICANT RISKS FOR HONEYBEES WERE IDENTIFIED.
According to Mr Kirby ―
Re-evaluation of other health and environment aspects of imidacloprid is ongoing, and we expect to publish these findings later this year.
Pollinator assessments for clothianidin and thiamethoxam will follow in 2017.
These re-evaluations continue to be a priority to the PMRA, and we will continue to consult on decisions with all stake-holders.
Mr Kirby added that BEE HEALTH IS A COMPLEX ISSUE and more work is required to understand all the factors which contribute to periodic increases in mortality.
To that end. the government is working with national and international organizations « to generate the knowledge we need to protect the long-term health of bee populations in Canada and world-wide ».
Ms Johnson said that a Bee Health Roundtable set up by Agriculture Canada has wide-spread membership that recognizes « that bee health requires a long-term, multi-faceted commitment of time, co-ordination and resources ».
Agriculture Canada has Working Groups that are « addressing research, pollinator habitat and surroundings, varroa mite control, reduction of pesticide exposure, honeybee nutrition, best management practices, and communications ».
Among the projects Agriculture Canada has completed are « national best management practices, integrating regional approaches where appropriate in a format ready for distribution to bee-keepers. This will be published and shared with stake-holders in the coming weeks. »
A Nutrition Working Group is engaged with partners in a major U.S. international bee nutrition research effort to ensure that Canadian perspectives and issues are addressed, Ms Johnson added.
Agriculture Canada has beefed up its bee research capacity, noted Mr Stephen Pernal from the Beaverlodge Research Farm.
It is working on honeybee issues such as detecting and treating colonies infected with Nosema ceranae, a newly introduced parasite associated with higher rates of colony losses.
According to Mr Pernal ―
In addition, we are developing techniques to disinfect bee-keeping equipment exposed to this pest and methods to detect products used for its treatment that may persist in beehives.
We are also continuing to analyze samples from agriculture pesticide residues in honey, pollen, and beeswax throughout Alberta.
Moreover, we are examining concentrations of products currently registered for the control of diseases or mites of honeybees that may also accumulate in these matrices.

Honeybee Colonies & Production Thriving – There Is NO Bee Crisis
Summary
There is NO bee-pocalypse.
There is NO plummeting of bee numbers.
In fact, studies show that bee numbers are NOT in decline, they were instead at a 20-year high in 2015.
The managed honeybee shortage just is NOT a real thing, especially since it has become an amateur fad, and that has led to many deaths from MIS-MANAGEMENT.
However, dead bees are great for fundraising by Anti-Pesticide & Environmental-Terrorist Organizations.
Bee Colony Collapse Disorder ( BCCD ) is an ENVIRONMENTAL HOAX, and is NOT really happening.
Simple-Minded Bee Conspiracy Fanatics MOCK-REACT to bee losses as if they were the Armenian genocide.
They regularly hold LUNATIC BEE DIE-INS where they dress up in bee costumes and lie on the ground to be sprayed by mock-insecticide, and give mock-eulogies and held mock-memorials for dead bees.
Bee conspiracy fanatics single out Neonicotinoid Insecticides, the most popular, most modern and most effective insecticide as the cause of the supposed Bee Colony Collapse Disorder ( BCCD ).
It’s a nice story, but it does NOT hold up to the slightest scrutiny.
There are MORE colonies today, even with the latest dip, than there were in 1995, with the advent of modern Neonicotinoid Insecticides.
In other words, bees are NOT dying off in the wake of modern insecticides, they are actually GROWING AND THRIVING.
None of bee population drop can be attributed to neonicotinoids, because these insecticides only came on the market in the mid-1990s and didn’t exist in the FIVE DECADE PERIOD OF DECLINE.
According to the United States Department Of Agriculture ( USDA ), NO scientific cause for Bee Colony Collapse Disorder ( BCCD ) has been proven.
There has NOT been a case of Bee Colony Collapse Disorder ( BCCD ) in four to five years.
In fact, historically, bee crises are NOTHING NEW since heavy losses have been reported for a long time.
Varroa Mites are the primary problem associated with bee losses.
But who’s going to write a donation to an activist group for « mite control » ?!?!
Blaming insecticides and « saving bees » that don’t actually need to be saved might NOT be accurate, but it is HIGHLY PROFITABLE.
In fact, bee-keepers know full well that Varroa Mites are the PRIMARY PROBLEM associated with bee losses, and NOT Neonicotinoid Insecticides ― bee-keepers know almost NOTHING about Neonicotinoid Insecticides.
In fact, bee-keepers appear to be unable or unwilling to get their major pest problems under control, such as Varroa Mites, leading observers to conclude that bee-keepers may NOT be competent to handle their businesses, and may be wholly unsuited to be raising bees.
The disappearing bees MYTH is a political disease that can only be eradicated with the truth.
In fact, the honeybee industry is actually THRIVING around the world.

Honeybee Colonies & Production Thriving – There Is NO Bee Crisis
Despite The Hype …
There Is NO Bee-Pocalypse
On March 22nd, 2016, the U.S. Department Agriculture [ USDA ] released its latest count of commercial honeybee hives, and although the figure dipped 2.9 per cent from the 20-year record-high set in 2014, the overall count of 2.7 million hives in 2015 remains strong.
You wouldn’t know it from the news coverage.
One Michigan television station recently led with the headline ―
Numbers of managed honey bee colonies plummeting. [ ?!?! ]
It explained ―
According to the USDA the total number of managed honey bee colonies has DECREASED by 2.5 million since the 1940s. [1] [ ?!?! ]
This is MISLEADING for a number of reasons.

Bee Numbers Are NOT In Decline
First of all, ―
There Is NO Plummeting
Of Bee Numbers
√ FACT ― Studies Show
That Bee Numbers Are NOT
In Decline, They Were Instead
At A 20-Year High In 2015
A full-strength hive can easily hold 30,000 or 40,000, which means there are around 80 billion honeybees in the United States ― ten for every human on the planet.
The United Nations counts about 80 million hives world-wide, meaning the global total of honeybees is a 13-digit number of a magnitude more commonly used to measure government debt.
And secondly, honeybees are just one of over 20,000 known bee species, so it’s safe to conclude that …
The Managed Honeybee Shortage
Just Isn’t A Real Thing, Especially
Since It Has Become An Amateur
Fad, And That Has Led To Many
Deaths From Mis-Management
[ Bee Conspiracy Fanatics ] want everyone to think otherwise for a simple reason ―

Even so, sometimes [ Bee Conspiracy Fanatics ] cannot find any bee corpses to mourn over and have been forced to resort to dressing up in bee costumes to stage a so-called DIE-IN. [2]

Costumes And Lie On The Ground
To Be Sprayed By Mock-Insecticide,
And Give MOCK-EULOGIES And Held
MOCK-MEMORIALS For Dead Bees
The impression that they mean to convey with their LUNATIC DIE-INS is that big, bad pesticides are wiping bees out to the edge of extinction. [ ?!?! ]
Bee Conspiracy Fanatics Single
Out Neonicotinoid Insecticides,
The Most Popular, Most Modern
And Most Effective Insecticide As
The Cause Of The Supposed Decline
It’s A Nice Story, But It Does Not

Honeybee Colonies & Production Thriving – There Is NO Bee Crisis
Bee Colonies Are Actually Growing
Neonicotinoid Insecticides, or Neonics for short, came on the market in the mid-1990s, back when U.S. honeybee colony numbers hovered in the 2.6 million range.
There Are More Colonies Today,
Even With The Latest Dip,
Than There Were In 1995, With
The Advent Of Modern
Neonicotinoid Insecticides
In Other Words, Bees Are
NOT Dying Off In The Wake
Of Modern Insecticides, They

This is where the bait-and-switch comes into play.
It’s absolutely true that there were more managed honeybees in the 1940s.

Bees During World War II
Bees were part of the war effort, producing wax used to coat guns and ammunition.
So when the war ended, SUBSIDIES WERE INTRODUCED TO PROP UP THE BEEKEEPING INDUSTRY. [3]
Thanks to Uncle Sam’s support, bee populations peaked at around 5.5 million in the 1950s, then gradually dropped to around 2.6 million in the mid-1990s.
None Of Bee Population Drop Can
Be Attributed To Neonicotinoids,

Bee Colony Collapse Disorder ( BCCD )
Now, the national bee numbers DID DECLINE AT BIT around the year 2005 ― to 2.4 million.
2005 was the year in which Bee Colony Collapse Disorder ( BCCD ) struck.
BCDD is the term that describes the unexplained death or disappearance of a hive’s adult bees.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) ―
NO Scientific Cause For Bee
Colony Collapse Disorder
( BCCD ) Has Been Proven [4]
[ Bee Conspiracy Fanatics ] see the lack of a clear cause as a wide-open opportunity to come up with their own explanation.
So they blame Neonicotinoid Insecticides.
There Has NOT Been A Case Of
Bee Colony Collapse Disorder
( BCCD ) In Four To Five Years

Bee Crises In Ancient And Historical Times
Calmer minds reflecting on the evidence conclude that the BCCD phenomenon existed long before the scientists who invented Neonicotinoid Insecticides were even born.
Indeed, the November 19th, 1868 edition of the Louisville Democrat described BCCD-like symptoms with the headline ―
Extraordinary exodus of honey bees — they abandon their winter stores and disappear. [5]
Throughout history, BCCD has come and gone, and right now, it has gone.
There hasn’t been a case in four to five years. [6]
Pesticide seed treatments didn’t exist in the middle of the 19th century, but disease did ravage hives, just as it does now. [7]
√ FACT ― Historically, Bee
Crises Are NOTHING New Since
Heavy Losses Have Been
Reported For A Long Time

Varroa Mites Are The Primary Problem Associated With Bee Losses
The United States Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) has already identified the primary suspect that has been spreading Virus Diseases ―
The parasitic mite Varroa destructor remains the single most detrimental pest of honey bees. [8]
Varroa Mites are blood-sucking creatures that latch onto young bees, injecting over a dozen types of debilitating Virus Diseases that can devastate entire hives.
But Who’s Going To Write
A Donation To An Activist
Group For « Mite Control » ?!?!
Nobody sees the value in standing up to « Big Insect » when these well-funded groups can pretend to be little guys going up against Big Agriculture and its insistence on using technology to grow more food.

NORAHG Response
Bee-Keepers Are Killing Their Own Bees !
The ALLEGED LOSSES of bees are, in fact, THE FAULT OF THE BEE-KEEPERS AND THEIR MIS-MANAGEMENT PRACTICES. The bee-keepers themselves are clearly responsible since they are often unable or unwilling or NOT skilled enough to mitigate the real issues that harm bees, such as fungal infections, mite infestations, starvation, transportation, weak colonies. STARVATION is biggest single cause of bee losses ! For example, in jurisdictions like Ontario, during winter, bee-keepers are KILLING THEIR OWN BEES BY STARVATION, followed by WEAK COLONIES IN THE FALL, and POOR QUEENS. http://wp.me/p1jq40-97E Additionally, bee-keepers are KILLING EVEN MORE OF THEIR BEES BY TRUCK ACCIDENTS ! http://wp.me/p1jq40-8RT Bee-keepers are NOT just STARVING their bees to death, they are also KILLING THEIR OWN BEES WITH INEPT TRANSPORTATION. Some bee-keepers have NO idea what they are doing, leading some observers to conclude that bee-keepers may NOT be competent to raise bees. Bee-keepers prefer to remain UNPROFICIENT at bee-keeping, and expect the government to shower them with vast sums of UNJUSTIFIABLE COMPENSATION. http://tinyurl.com/l8odbpc http://wp.me/p1jq40-77N http://wp.me/p1jq40-7VI Moreover, why are only a very limited number of bee-keepers affected ?!?! Why don’t government inspectors and specialists investigate the killing of bees by bee-keepers ?!?!

√ FACT ― Bee-Keepers Are WRONG About Neonicotinoid Insecticides Since The Weight Of The Scientific Evidence Clearly Shows That They Represent A SLIM RISK OF HARM From Applications Used By The Agriculture Industry.
√ FACT ― Hazardous Exposures of Bees to Neonicotinoid Insecticides Are NOT Likely to Occur in a Real-Life Setting.
√ FACT ― The Honeybee Industry Is Actually THRIVING Around The World.
There is NO bee crisis ! The honeybee industry is actually THRIVING around the world. Here are some examples. The Ontario honeybee industry is THRIVING. The Canadian honeybee industry is THRIVING ― Canada’s honey yield is twice the world’s average. The North American honeybee industry is THRIVING. The European honeybee industry is THRIVING ― Neonicotinoid Insecticides were still being used in 2013, and yet, 2013 was the lowest European bee loss recorded since 2007.
