Overview
In the United States, determining regulations for pest control product use is a responsibility SHARED AT THE STATE AND NATIONAL LEVELS.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ) regulates pest control products nationally under the authority of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act ( FIFRA ) and other laws to register pest control products, educate applicators, monitor compliance, and investigate problems.
The MAJORITY of states have legislated PRE-EMPTION LAWS.
In general terms, PRE-EMPTION refers to the ability of one level of government to OVER-RIDE the laws of a lower level.
PRE-EMPTION LAWS have effectively STOPPED the possibility of STATE or MUNICIPAL PROHIBITIONS of pest control products, and even fertilizers, used in the Urban Landscape.
However, with the support of Anti-Pesticide Organizations, several states and municipalities are fighting to overturn PRE-EMPTION LAWS in order to IMPOSE the NEEDLESS, SENSELESS, and MALICIOUS PROHIBITION of products that are, otherwise, EPA-APPROVED, FEDERALLY-LEGAL, SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE, PRACTICALLY-NON-TOXIC, and CAUSE NO HARM.
Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITIONS in U.S. States are IMPOSED under the PRETEXT of protecting children, when, in fact, CHILDREN ARE NOT AT RISK.
The ultimate goal of Anti-Pesticide Activists is CONTINUING TO IMPOSE NEEDLESS PROHIBITION on grounds surrounding SCHOOLS and DAY-CARE CENTERS, including UNIVERSITIES, and subsequently opening the door to gradual and eventual expansion to TOTAL PROHIBITION.
Children across North America, even in those jurisdictions with NO pesticide bans, are all protected since these products are applied at VERY LOW DOSES and represent NO THREAT TO CHILDREN.
The SAFETY ASSESSMENTS of pest control products by the Environmental Protection Agency and Heath Canada take into consideration CHILDREN’s physiology, behaviours, and habits WHILE PLAYING ON TREATED GRASS.
There are NO valid reports of problems with children, and there is NOT ONE KNOWN ILLNESS or DEATH from the proper use of pest control products used in the Urban Landscape.

The SUBVERSIVE PETITION was conducted under the FALSE PRETEXT that the nature of pest control products is SOMEHOW CARCINOGENIC, and CAN SUPPOSEDLY HARM STUDENTS.
You’ve got a lot of people POISONED AND DYING BECAUSE OF ALCOHOL at the University of Delaware, and NOT because of pesticides. ( See later segments. )

Grounds Services workers at University of Delaware use Basagran T/O and PowerZone herbicides to treat weeds.
University Officials say both are SAFE when applied are directed, and grounds-keepers are trained in how to use them ―
These chemicals are both registered for use with the EPA [ Environmental Protection Agency ] and are widely used in this type of setting.
In fact, pest control products are FEDERALLY-REGISTERED, GOVERNMENT-APPROVED, SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE, PRACTICALLY NON-TOXIC, and CAUSE NO HARM.
Scientific research shows that, as reported through Environmental Protection Agency’s VAST TOXICOLOGY DATABASE, NO HARM WILL OCCUR when pest control products are used properly.
The RISK ASSESSMENT of pest control products indicates that they are PRACTICALLY-NON-TOXIC.
Consequently, it is a fact that pest control products CAUSE NO HARM, including chronic effects such as CANCER.

Demands From Anti-Pesticide Students
The two ANTI-PESTICIDE STUDENTS who organized the SUBVERSIVE PETITON are Maddi Valinski, sophomore environmental studies major, and Megan Mauger, a junior environmental science major.
Neither have ANY credentials, training, or expertise in matters concerning pest control products.
Mauger DEMANDS that the university PLACES WARNING SIGNS in areas on where herbicides are used.
According to University Officials, there is NO POLICY requiring workers to post signs when they spray an area with herbicides.
Mauger also DEMANDS that the university SWITCHES TO SO-CALLED ORGANIC PESTICIDE-FREE MAINTENANCE PRACTICES.
Mauger has a SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT because she pays tuition.
According to Mauger, WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT THE MAINTENANCE OF TURFGRASS ―
Ultimately, we’re paying to go here, we’re putting a large amount of money into our tuition [ … ] And we should have a say on the practices that this university upholds.

Mauger’s DEMANDS are based upon the PRETEXT OF SOMEHOW PROTECTING STUDENTS from the chemicals because of their SUPPOSED CARCINOGENIC NATURE, which can also affect plants and animals in surrounding areas. [ WRONG ! ]
The chemicals are also known to cause respiratory problems and skin irritations, Mauger ALLEGES. [ WRONG ! ]
According to Anti-Pesticide Student Megan Mauger ―
It’s a human health issue. [ ?!?! ] But then also from an environmental standpoint, the pesticides runoff into our watersheds and cause harm to the wildlife and possible environmental issues. [ WRONG ! ]
Maddi Valinski said she organized the SUBVERSIVE PETITION under the PRETEXT of alerting people about the SUPPOSED HARMFUL SIDE EFFECTS of lawn care chemicals.
According to Anti-Pesticide Student Valinski, WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT PESTICIDES ―
I think it’s really important to be aware of the pesticides that are being spread around us, so that we can really make good choices and know more information about everything that’s going on around us.

Some of the Anti-Pesticide Students are enrolled in ENGLISH PROFESSOR MCKAY JENKINS’ class on Environmental Journalism.
Jenkins has NO recognized credentials, training, or expertise in matters concerning pest control products.
However, Jenkins wrote a book titled « What’s Gotten into Us ? »
Clearly, Jenkins has a VESTED INTEREST in PROFIT DERIVED FROM BOOK SALES.
Anti-Pesticide Student Megan Mauger said Jenkins taught her about lawn chemicals and pesticides, and encouraged her to organize the SUBVERSIVE PETITION.

You’ve got a lot of people laying around in poison [ … ] really, the human body isn’t fully developed until age 25 or 26. So you’ve got developing minds, developing bodies, freshman students [ … ] until your body’s fully developed, you are much more susceptible to those products. [ ?!?! ]
