GARBAGE DUMPGREEN SPACES IN ONTARIO ― Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION created DISASTROUS, UNHEALTHY, and UNSIGHTLY CONDITIONS of yards, ditches, sport fields, and green spaces.
CHILDREN AT RISK IN ONTARIO ― Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION created SPORTS FIELDS THAT ARE DANGEROUS since weeds are flourishing, and sports fields surfaces are HARD because there is NO cushion of grass.
HEALTH ISSUES IN ONTARIO ― Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION created conditions where CHILDREN ARE SUFFERING from severe reactions to weeds like Poison Ivy.
ALLERGIES IN ONTARIO ― Ragweed and other pollen-producing plants ALL GO UNCHECKED because of Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITON.
AGRICULTURAL DAMAGE IN ONTARIO ― Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION created WEEDS THAT ARE UNCONTROLLED IN DITCHES and that are INVADING NEARBY FARMS.
Pesticide Bans Don’t Work
Dear Editor,
Please ABANDON the idea [ of BANNING pesticides ].
I recently travelled to ONTARIO, a province that has BANNED COSMETIC PESTICIDES.
I observed the DISASTROUS CONDITIONS of GREEN SPACES, such as YARDS, DITCHES, and SPORT FIELDS, where drought had stopped grass growth and left weeds flourishing.
The weeds were going to seed because the mowers had stopped being used since the GRASS WAS SO SPOTTY.
The SPORTS FIELDS were DANGEROUS since they were HARD WITH NO GRASS CUSHION.
While farmers can use pesticides, WEEDS remain UNCONTROLLED IN DITCHES that are FULL OF WEEDS that are going to seed and INVADING NEARBY FARMS ― this really puts the pressure on the farmer who needs to produce food to feed the cities.
While in Ontario, my grandson was SUFFERING FROM A SEVERE REACTION TO POISON IVY.
The COSMETIC PESTICIDE BAN STOPS PARKS OFFICIALS FROM CONTROLLING POISON IVY IN CAMPGROUNDS.
Poison ivy, ragweed and its pollen, Canada thistle, milkweed, and nodding thistle … ALL GO UNCHECKED WITH THE COSMETIC PESTICIDE BAN.
Locally, [ in our home town of Portage La Prairie ], can you imagine what CRESCENT LAKE will look like when it takes the SAME APPEARANCE AS THE DUCK POND by the Portage General Hospital when the city cannot treat the weeds ?
[ In central Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, there is a peninsula known as Island Park, bounded by an oxbow lake called CRESCENT LAKE. ]
Why is it that the people that want this BAN think they should stop those of us that want to maintain OUR yards from doing so.
WE don’t try to legislate those people into spraying fertilizing and watering THEIR lawns, so why should they stop US from doing so on OUR properties ?
Pesticides used in small amounts, which have been approved by Health Canada for use on crops, can alleviate some of these UNHEALTHY UNSIGHTLY SITUATIONS when judiciously applied in advance of fully blown issues.
It is time to speak up.
The SILENT MAJORITY should NOT be ruled by the SQUAWKING MINORITY.

● Natural grass sports fields are being REPLACED by dangerous artificial turf.
● Parks are INFESTED with weeds that crowd out grass.
● People are SUFFERING from SEVERE REACTIONS to weeds like Poison Ivy.
● Pesticide-free maintenance is STUNNINGLY EXPENSIVE.
● Playing surfaces are INFESTED with damaging weeds and insects.
● Rose plantations are DYING and must be REMOVED by cities.
● Swarms of flies are EVERYWHERE !
● Weed-infested playing surfaces are HARD and DANGEROUS.
● Weeds are UNCONTROLLED in ditches and are INVADING nearby farms.
● WHO WANTS TO LIVE IN #@!!% PEST-INFESTED GARBAGE DUMPS ?!?!
