Overview
Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION DESTROYED Calgary’s public green spaces by TURNING THEM INTO DANGEROUS GARBAGE DUMPS.
Calgary’s INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT Plan is a DISMAL FAILURE.
City of Calgary has SELF-IMPOSED RESTRICTIONS on the use of pest control products on its public green spaces.
Consequently, Calgary’s soccer pitches are FULL OF DANDELIONS are MORE SLIPPERY, and can cause CHILDREN and ADULTS to SLIP AND FALL.
Left to spread, weeds can outgrow turf, which is COSTLY TO BRING BACK.
Not only are Calgary’s public spaces looking like GARBAGE DUMPS, they are also DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE GARBAGE DUMPS.
In the City of Calgary, Alberta …
On November 17th, 2009, Calgary City Council appeared to be covering the sensible middle ground when it comes to drafting a by-law to reduce the use of pest control products.
Council steered clear of an outright BAN.
As was proven in other jurisdictions, Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITIONS DO NOT WORK because they are UNENFORCABLE, short of creating property police to patrol lawns.
Instead, regulations designed to reduce the use of pest control products were beefed up.
Under the new by-law, Professional Lawn Care companies faced tougher licensing standards, and were required to notify neighbours before treating a lawn.
While the by-law accommodated some spot-spraying, it will reduce or ban herbicides designed to be used over large areas.
Professional Lawn Care companies pointed out these products, when used correctly, are NOT UNSAFE.
Council planted the seeds for a workable by-law that was expected to preserve the business for the professionals, without choking the rights of home-owners.
On the other hand, Health Canada has said that it approves only those pest control products that CAUSE NO HARM.
The federal agency is on the same page on this issue as the World Health Organization and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Nonetheless, since 1998, City of Calgary SELF-IMPOSED RESTRICTIONS on the use of pest control products on its public green spaces, when an INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT Plan was approved by council.
Moreover, on August 9th, 2011, the Provincial Government of Alberta STOPPED the trend towards NEEDLESS, SENSELESS, and MALICIOUS PROHIBITION.
The Government of Alberta stated that it WOULD NOT CREATE RESTRICTIONS OR LAWS THAT CONFLICT WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, that is relied upon for health and safety assessments.
Consequently, the Government of Alberta indicated that it had NO INTENT TO PROHIBIT THE SALE OF ANY PEST CONTROL PRODUCT.
Alberta monitored PESTICIDE BANS over the past few years and the approaches taken by other jurisdictions, and found THE BASIS FOR ACTION CONFUSING AND INCONSISTENT.

The End Result of Self-Imposed Restrictions …
Dandelions Rule Throughout Calgary.
Calgary’s Public Spaces Are DANGEROUS GARBAGE DUMPS.

Moreover, CHILDREN are actually AT HIGH RISK OF TRIPPING and becoming SERIOUSLY HURT.
Pest control products PREVENT slipping injuries on sports turf.
While the city DOES spray to kill dandelions in parks and playing fields, Calgary’s Officials are remaining picky about which areas are treated, under the PRETEXT of following an INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT Plan.
In fact, Calgary’s INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT Plan is a DISMAL FAILURE.
The city stopped spraying for so-called cosmetic or beautification purposes in 1998, when its INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT Plan was approved by council.
To compensate for the FAILURE OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT, Calgary Officials have embarked on a LUDICROUS effort to reduce the expectations of the public by promoting LOW-END PLAYING and GARBAGE DUMP CONDITIONS.
According to Calgary’s Government Officials, the public HAD BETTER GET USED TO DANDELIONS, because, for the most part, THEY’RE HERE TO STAY … because INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT DOES NOT WORK, and because those responsible for the city’s green spaces are INCOMPETENT IDIOTS.
Furthermore, since the Government of Alberta RECLASSIFIED DANDELIONS, removing them from the list of NOXIOUS WEEDS, they remain a lower priority for treatment than they were in 2010.
As a result, Calgary’s Government Officials can no longer ticket home-owners who allow dandelions to flourish.
They CAN hand out infraction-tickets if the weeds grow taller than 15 centimetres.
In the summer of 2010, the city handed out more than 300 tickets for lawn-care problems, based on 5,000 complaints received.
Additionally, Calgary does have PESTICIDE-FREE PARKS.
More DANGEROUS GARBAGE DUMPS.
The city posts signs in communities before spraying.
Staff are directed not to spray within 30 metres of a playground unless the entire area is closed to the public, and school sites are skipped when classes are in session.

#@!!% BOGUS IPM NONSENSE
Integrated Pest Management ( IPM ) is promoted by people who FALSELY ALLEGE SUCCESS, and who are likely concocting LIES, MISCONCEPTIONS, AND DECEPTIONS for their own nefarious personal interests.
It is IMPOSSIBLE for turfgrass professionals to keep their properties playable and beautiful by using IPM.
In agriculture, IPM is a pest control strategy that uses a variety of complementary strategies including ― mechanical devices, physical devices, genetic, biological, cultural management, and chemical management.
For several decades, Integrated Pest Management has been BASTERDIZED into many versions in order to suit the needs Anti-Pesticide Activists, Educators, and others.
The Anti-Pesticide-Version of Integrated Pest Management DEMANDS the ELIMINATION of the use of conventional pest control products while at the same time managing pest populations at an acceptable level.
Unfortunately, Integrated Pest Management has been designed to be applicable to the Agriculture Industry, and NOT the Green Space Maintenance Industry.
Overall, Integrated Pest Management is a DISMAL FAILURE AND A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY for the Green Space Maintenance Industry.
IPM cultural practices DO NOT CONTROL PESTS of established turf and ornamentals.
Moreover, using Integrated Pest Management ACCOMPLISHES VIRTUALLY NOTHING in terms of resolving the PUBLIC AFFAIRS ISSUES concerning the PROHIBITION of conventional pest control products.
Nor does the Pesticide-Free Version of Integrated Pest Management effectively and consistently control the pests of turf and ornamental plants.
Pesticide-Free Integrated Pest Management will NEVER achieve the level of total reduction or elimination attained by using conventional pest control products.
Wherever Pesticide-Free Integrated Pest Management is entirely relied upon for the maintenance of turf and ornamentals, damaging pests MAY only be slightly suppressed, AT THE EXPENSE OF PLANT GROWTH, PLAYING CONDITIONS, and APPPEARANCE.
In practice, IPM MAY BE MORE USEFUL in providing some LIMITED IMPROVEMENT towards the efficiency and effectiveness of conventional pest control products.
To compensate for the FAILURE OF INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT, turfgrass professionals have embarked on a LUDICROUS effort to reduce the expectations of their customers by promoting LOW-END PLAYING and GARBAGE DUMP CONDITIONS.

CATASTROPHIC CARNAGE
PESTICIDE BANS result in CATASTROPHIC CARNAGE caused by BAN FAILURES, BUSINESS FAILURES, GARBAGE DUMP GREEN SPACES, and STUNNINGLY EXORBITANT COSTS.
PESTICIDE BANS destroy public and residential green spaces by turning them into GARBAGE DUMPS.
Summary of CATASTROPHIC CARNAGE caused by GARBAGE DUMP GREEN SPACES …
● Children At High Risk of Tripping and Becoming Seriously Hurt
● Dandelions the Dominant Ground Cover
● Dead Mature Street Trees
● Hazardous Slipping Conditions In Sports Turf
● Lawns Decimated by Insects like White Grubs
● Lawns in Entire Neighborhoods Ruined by Pests
● Parks Infested With Weeds
● Rose Plantations Dying and Removed by Cities

HAZARDOUS SLIPPING CONDITIONS
PESTICIDE BANS create HAZARDOUS SLIPPING CONDITIONS in sports turf.
In fact, WITH PESTICIDE BANS, CHILDREN are actually AT HIGH RISK of TRIPPING and becoming SERIOUSLY HURT.
Pest control products PREVENT slipping injuries on sports turf.
Children need WEED-FREE BASEBALL MOUNDS AND RUNS to avoid TRIPPING and HURTING THEMSELVES.
Without conventional pest control products, playing surfaces become THIN AND YELLOW, and OVER-RUN WITH WEEDS and INFESTED WITH INSECTS, resulting in the DISMAL DESTRUCTION OF TURF PLAYING SURFACES.
