Re: The April 1 letter from Jacquie Doherty of Grassroots Liquid Fertilizer and Weed Control (‘No need for a provincewide cosmetic-pesticide ban,’).
I strongly disagree with not having a complete-pesticide ban.
Doherty states: “Ramming through such a ban just to strengthen his tenure would certainly prove [Environment Minister Terry] Lake is not capable of handling this important decision.”
I am not a B.C. Liberal and I not defending Lake, though I think he is moving forward in this decision for the sake of our children, pets and the environment. This has been on the province’s to-do list for at least five years.
Doherty also states there is no need for a knee-jerkdecision and says we must rely on experts in this field— not the Canadian Cancer Society. The OntarioCollege of Family Physicians states pesticides cannot beconsidered safe at any level of exposure. The federalgovernment states pesticides registered for sale inCanada are not deemed safe, but permits the sale ofcigarettes in Canada.

Lawn care (all users, homeowner and professionally applied) uses more than eight times pesticides per area thandoes a farmer — just to grow grass.
Where does the excess go? It either washes off the lawn and goes directly down the storm drain, where it generallypasses directly into local waterways, or it leaches it way down into the water table.
Is the solution in Turf Logics Lawn Products? His Products do not leach into the waterways? Studies have been conducted on this claim: Brian Horgan discusses this here :
