You can do a lot of damage to your backyard’s ecosystem by spraying chemical pesticides. Cathy Fuller, the City of Kelowna’s gardening expert, wants you to consider natural alternatives this year. “When we spray our soil, and our gardens and our lawns, what the chemical does is it destroys everything that is good in the soil,” says Fuller, “sometimes it leeches into the tablewater and into the lakes and we have no way of screening that,” she says. Fuller says there’s a wide variety of of organic products to keep weeds and bugs at bay. They’re better than ever and improving all the time. The City is offering free public seminars with Fuller until June, where she can show you how to get the most from your lawn and garden, as well as the best green products to use.
