Dear Sir:
Re: “Canccer society wrong on anti-pesticide stance,” by Lorne Hepworth, President of CropLife Canada, the pesticide industry's lobby group in Ottawa, which was published on line on Feb. 17, 2011.
Shame on this industry lobbyist for misleading the citizens of Terrace.
Health Canada's Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has no labs of its own and is basing its verdicts almost exclusively on rat studies provided by the industry.
The PMRA has a very limited capability to assess human studies. Thus the PMRA's pesticide review is neither rigorous nor comprehensive.
To say that the health of Canadians is Health Canada's top priority under current circumstances is simply laughable.

Comment from Admin:
Ms. Cottam has an opinion, a hunch. She never provides tangible facts in her arguments, no scientific criteria in her statements. Yet she feels her opinion should be forced down everyones throat.

Examples of questions answered are as follows:
Comment 1: "The industry supplies the data and product for PMRA's evaluations and evidently for this purpose selects samples with relatively low toxicity"
Comment 2: "The industry reimburses the PMRA for evaluating pesticides. Hence a conflict of interest"
Comment 4: "The PMRA does not consult impartial sources, so as to form unbiased and well-thought out opinions on the toxicity of the chemicals being approved"
Comment 9: "We are convinced that if the pesticide approval process was stricter and the Agency erred on the side of caution, the epidemic of some forms of cancer, especially among children, would be substantially reduced. The incidence of developmental problem among children and the number of people afflicted by environmental sensitivities would also be diminished."

If there were Healthier Alternatives to Cosmetic Pesticides that woked. 'Worked' being the key word.
The Green Industry would embrace them with open arms.
The Green Alternatives are a dismal Failure, ideas funded by persons like J. Cottam
Corn Gluten was her favorite topic a few years back, now that the Green Alternative Weed Control Products is a verified failure , she does not talk about it anymore.
How about Nematodes for grubs (35% success rate)
How about Sarritor for weeds (Failure)
How about the newest Products (Fiesta FeHEDTA) (Failure, extremely high rates of this product need to be applied. 4-8 applications a year) Thats 4-8 PESTICIDE signs on your neighbors lawn a season. Every 2-4 weeks they put a new sign on the lawn.
Fact:
FeHEDTA is only registered by Health Canada for 2 applications a year, for health and environmental reasons. As all their products have considerations for health and environment.
The Ontario Ministry of Environment Pesticide Enforcement branch overlooks that fact for some strange reason.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR.
BRITISH COLUMBIA LOCAL NEWS.
RESPONSE TO K. JEAN COTTAM ( A.K.A. KAZIMIERA JEAN COTTAM AND GHOST-WRITERS ).
February 22nd, 2011.
Miss Kazimiera Jean Cottam is merely an 81–year–old divorced chronologically–gifted octogenarian.
Sadly, because of her age and diminished capacity, Environmental–Terror–Activists have been using Miss Kazimiera as « cannon fodder » for several years.
For the most part, her letters are scripted by others, such as the Enviro–Ghost–Writer Meg Sears.
Miss Kazimiera‘s target newspapers are even chosen for her.
Under the guise of being some kind of professional, Miss Kazimiera, and her Enviro–Lunatic–Ghost–Writers, have written in blogs and newspapers across Canada to express her TOTALLY VALUELESS AND UTTERLY WORTHLESS opinion regarding conventional pest control products.
Additionally, NEITHER Miss Kazimiera, NOR Her Ghost–Writers, HAVE ANY RECOGNIZED EXPERTISE, TRAINING, OR BACKGROUND, IN MATTERS CONCERNING PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS !
In 2004, officials at HEALTH CANADA were deceived by Miss Kazimiera’s false credentials, and took the time to answer EVERY SINGLE ONE of her concerns regarding pest control products.
NOT ONE of her allegations was confirmed, so Miss Kazimiera and her Ghost–Writers decided to throw an Enviro–Lunatic–Activist tantrum and write to anyone who would dare listen to them.
Consequently, several people are strongly urging that Miss Kazimiera be included among the names of those being charged with FRAUD, despite her advanced age and diminished capacity.
In January 2010, the Green Space Industry outlined the list of CHARGES against the Government of Ontario and the Ministry of the Environment.
The legal proceedings were organized by Jeffrey P. Lowes and M–REP Communications.
Additionally, individual members of Environmental–Terror–Organizations also faced CHARGES under the Canadian Criminal Code.
By August 2010, M–REP Communications commenced CIVIL ACTION to recover the HORRENDOUS LOSSES caused by the PROHIBITION–TERRORISM–CONSPIRACY.
