South Portland’s Reckless & Arbitrary Prohibition
Summary
In the State of Maine, the City of South Portland’s PROPOSED PROHIBITION against the use of pest control products on PUBLIC LAND would take effect on May 1st, 2017, on PRIVATE PROPERTY in 2018, and on GOLF COURSES in 2019.
South Portland’s Reckless & Arbitrary Prohibition
South Portland is a city in the State of Maine, United States, is the fourth-largest city in the state, incorporated in 1898, with a population of almost 25,000.
Taking a carrot-versus-stick approach, the South Portland City Council agreed to move forward with a newly revised PROHIBITION that REMOVES ANY FINES FOR NON-COMPLIANCE.
Under the proposed ordinance, South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION would apply [ unfairly and unilaterally ] only for pest control products used for turf, landscape and outdoor pest management on BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PROPERTY, including GOLF COURSES.
At the City Council workshop, Pesticide-Hating Fanatic Julie Rosenbach, the sustainability coordinator, acknowledged that enforcement of South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION would be difficult, but said that the goal of « greatly restricting or eliminating the use of pesticides » was worth the effort.
« Enforcement will be a challenge, especially on private property, so our goal is to work with people in a more positive way to bring them into compliance, » Screeching-Fanatic Rosenbach said.
To support that effort, South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION would include an extensive public outreach and education campaign [ i.e. brain-washing propaganda ], Screeching-Fanatic Rosenbach said.
It would be up to her and the Anti-Pesticide Pest Management Advisory Committee to resolve any issues that may arise.
Talk about a FANATICAL-PROHIBITION began about a year ago.
In April 2016, the City Council, in a first reading, APPROVED A FANATICAL-PROHIBITION that called for FINES of $200, $500 and $1,000 per offense following a warning.
But in June 2016, the council postponed the second reading.
But now, « our intention is not to approach implementation in a punitive way, but rather to use education and outreach [ i.e. brain-washing propaganda ] to promote non-toxic land care practices and help the community to comply with this ordinance, » Pesticide-Hating Fanatic Rosenbach said in a memo to the council.
« Staff agree this is not an issue for the police department ( and ) also believe that the most practical approach to enforcement is to work with alleged violators to help bring them into compliance, » Screeching-Fanatic Rosenbach added.
The City Council is expected to hold a first reading on the revised FANATICAL-PROHIBITION at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 15th, 2016.
Under the PROHIBITION, it would be up to the code enforcement officer « to provide investigative assistance and to enforce the provisions of this PROHIBITION in collaboration with the city’s sustainability coordinator. »
South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION stipulates that the sustainability coordinator would work with alleged violators by providing them with « educational materials and advice [ false information ] on the use of less-toxic chemicals [ i.e. green alternative pesticides ] to achieve their desired results. »
GREEN ALTERNATIVE PESTICIDES DO NOT WORK ― There are NO alternatives that work. Prohibition is somehow validated by pesticide-hating fanatics who merely concoct myths against conventional products. http://wp.me/p1jq40-3jm When it comes to controlling pests, the use of safe and effective conventional pest control products should be a no-brainer. Anti-pesticide prohibition leads to the catastrophic problems of weed invasion and insect infestation. It is impossible for professionals, and even home-owners, to protect their properties by using so-called green alternative pesticides and practices. http://wp.me/p1jq40-24g There are no viable, efficacious, economical, or low-risk alternatives to replace conventional pest control products. Green alternative pesticides are bogus and dismal failures ― they do not work and they are not innovative products. http://wp.me/p1jq40-24g By definition, alternatives are inferior, which is why they did NOT win the market-place originally. http://wp.me/p1jq40-5R8 Overall, green alternative pesticides are ineffective, inadequate, inferior, high-risk, more toxic, and stunningly expensive ! In many cases, green alternative pesticides are questionably higher in toxicity, and pose higher environmental risks. Green alternative pesticides and even organic fertilizers often contain living pathogenic organisms, fermented materials, or metals that may be deemed unsafe for children, adults, and the environment. Conventional pest control products are absolutely necessary. Fortunately, conventional pest control products are safe, effective, economical, and low-risk.
If passed, South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION would be ROLLED OUT ACROSS THREE YEARS.
South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION against the use of pest control products on PUBLIC LAND would take effect on May 1st, 2017, on PRIVATE PROPERTY in 2018 and on GOLF COURSES in 2019.
Under South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION as now written, both synthetic and non-synthetic substances are PROHIBITED « unless specifically listed as allowed on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National List ».
Pest control products that are [ arbitrarily and non-scientifically ] determined to be of minimum risk under the federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act are allowed, although NO pest control product of any kind can be used within 75 feet of a body of water or wetland.
Exemptions and waivers for specific situations would be allowed.
Specifically EXEMPTED from South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION are commercial agriculture, pet shampoos and tick and flea treatments, disinfectants, insect repellents, rat and rodent control supplies, swimming pool supplies and general-use paints, stains and sealants, as long as they’re used in the manner specified by the manufacturer.

The Experts Who Oppose Fanatical-Prohibition
However, several experts have argued against South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION, including resident Mr Charles McNutt, who urged councilors to « look at these things with a critical eye ».
Mr McNutt argued, for instance, that the concern about one of the most commonly used pest control products being linked to cancer carries the same risk as cell phones, red meat and coffee.
PESTICIDES DO NOT CAUSE CANCER ― All is well since all conventional pest control products have been evaluated for their carcinogenic potential. http://wp.me/p1jq40-6yf Scientific research proves that pest control products cause no harm and do not cause cancer. Pest control products causing cancer IS A MYTH. http://wp.me/P1jq40-2nl Even Canadian Cancer Society’s own web-sites state repeatedly that scientific research does not provide a conclusive link between pest control products and cancer. http://wp.me/P1jq40-4qC YOUR own personal demise is far more likely to be caused by disease, accidents, or suicide ( the most likely cause of conspiracy theorists’ deaths ). The following is a list of the causes of human deaths world-wide, arranged by their associated mortality rates … • heart disease 30% • cancer 25% • chronic lower respiratory diseases 5% • accidents ( unintentional injuries ) 5% • stroke ( cerebrovascular diseases ) 5% • alzheimer’s disease • diabetes • influenza & pneumonia • nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, & nephrosis • intentional self-harm ( suicide ). There are thousands of known deaths per year from known cancer-causing factors such as unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, excess body weight, alcohol consumption, and over-exposure to the sun. There are NONE related to pest control products, which are SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE, and will NOT CAUSE HARM TO PEOPLE, ANIMALS, OR THE ENVIRONMENT. http://wp.me/p1jq40-7HR http://wp.me/P1jq40-2ha http://wp.me/p1jq40-5ni
« I agree that on some level pesticides are not safe, but if handled correctly they are, » Mr McNutt said.
Mr Jessie O’Brien, a foreman at Downeast Turf Farms in Kennebunk, said, « we need all the tools we have » to fight « troublesome, unsightly pests ».
Mr O’Brien urged the council to adopt Integrated Pest Management techniques instead of an outright PROHIBITION.
South Portland’s Reckless & Arbitrary Prohibition
The Lunatics Who Support Fanatical-Prohibition
Speaking IN SUPPORT OF SOUTH PORTLAND’S FANATICAL-PROHIBITION, Pesticide-Hating Fanatic Jay Feldman, Lunatic-Leader of Beyond Pesticides, a non-expert, profit-motivated, unethical group that conspires to recklessly and maliciously to prohibit against conventional pest control products, said there was no reason not to pass the measure, especially as it only applies to what he termed the « cosmetic use of pesticides ».
« These chemicals are not needed to have ( beautiful ) playing fields or home lawns or gardens, » Screeching-Fanatic Feldman said. [ WRONG ! ]
CATASTROPHIC PEST INVASION WITH FANATICAL-PROHIBITION ― When it comes to the appearance of lawns and gardens, the use of safe and effective conventional pest control products should be a no-brainer for government officials in South Portland. Anti-pesticide prohibition leads to the catastrophic problems of weed invasion and insect infestation. It will be impossible for home-owners or professionals in South Portland to keep their properties beautiful by using so-called green alternative pesticides and practices. http://wp.me/p1jq40-24g There are NO viable, NO efficacious, economical, and NO low-risk alternatives to replace conventional pest control products. A well-maintained conventional lawn and landscape can ONLY be achieved with conventional pest control products and fertilizers. These products are absolutely necessary. Fortunately, conventional pest control products are safe, effective, economical, and low-risk.
Pesticide-Hating Fanatic Feldman said numerous peer-reviewed scientific studies have linked the use of such pest control products to negative impacts on human health, from cancer to birth defects to asthma. [ WRONG ! ]
PESTICIDES ARE SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE ― The risk assessment of conventional pest control products indicates that they are scientifically-safe, and, when used properly, will NOT cause harm to children, people, animals, or the environment.
Reports Concerning Conventional Pest Control Products ―

As for South Portland’s local effort to PROHIBIT certain uses, Screeching-Fanatic Feldman added, « the data is clear, these policies do make a difference ». [ WRONG ! ]
Pesticide-Hating Fanatic Rachel Burger, a founding member of the citizen advocacy group Protect South Portland, also supported South Portland’s FANATICAL-PROHIBITION.
« Pesticides are designed to kill. Let’s take care of each other and our environment » Screeching-Fanatic Burger said. [ WRONG ! ]
PESTICIDES ARE SELECTIVE ― Pest control products used in the Urban Landscape SELECTIVELY AND EFFECTIVELY CONTROL disease, insect, and weed pests, but are COMPLETELY SAFE for other non-target organisms ― they DO NOT INJURE TURFGRASSES, and have NO persistence beyond season of use. These products can be USED SAFELY because the amount required to affect human health is SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER than any potential level of exposure. There is NOT ONE KNOWN INCIDENT OF HARM from the proper use of pest control products used in the Urban Landscape. Good Laboratory Practice adopted by national regulatory agencies, like U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ( US EPA ), German Federal Institute For Risk Assessment, and Health Canada, ensures that pest control products are scientifically-safe, and will not cause harm to people, animals, or the environment. http://wp.me/p1jq40-7HR http://wp.me/P1jq40-2ha http://wp.me/p1jq40-5ni Good Laboratory Practice allows national regulatory agencies to be impartial and rigorous. The assessments of all pest control products within the OECD must be conducted under the principles of the internationally-accredited Good Laboratory Practice. The accuracy of laboratory assessments of pest control products is ensured by a set of guidelines and principles developed by the Organization For Economic Co-Operation And Development ( OECD ), which is called Good Laboratory Practice. The 30 OECD member countries include Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Japan have adopted Good Laboratory Practice. All assessments used for the approval of pest control products must be completed by laboratories sanctioned by Good Laboratory Practice ( GLP ), and using only GLP practices. Ultimately, the cost to manufacturers to get a pest control product assessed for safety and brought to market is about 250 million dollars. Only those pest control products that pose NO unacceptable risk to health and environment become government-approved and federally-legal.
Another fanatic, Paul Cunningham, said, « I’m very excited about this proposal. It only makes sense. We have far too many chemicals in our ecosystem, and we all know it. » [ ?!?! ]
Meg Brailey, who described herself as an Anti-Pesticide Organic Gardener, said, « We can have completely beautiful landscaping without all these toxins. This ( PROHIBITION ) is a critical thing to do. Why not pass it ?!?! »
Mary Tomlinson, of the Board of Pesticide Control, addresses the South Portland City Council on august 8th, 2016.
The crowd on hand mostly consisted of Lunatic-Fanatics of a PROPOSED FANATICAL-PROHIBITION in the city.

FELDMAN & BEYOND PESTICIDES ARE NOT COMPETENT REGARDING PESTICIDES !
MYTHS ABOUT PESTICIDES ! ― Feldman is WRONG ! Concerns about the use of pest control products stem from Non-Expert Non-Scientific Pesticide-Hating Fanatics who operate organizations like Beyond Pesticides. Any FANATICAL-PROHIBITION against pest control products is NOT justified because strict regulations based on scientific research already protect our children, our health, and our environment. SAYING YES TO PESTICIDES WILL KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE AND WILL PROTECT THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT !
https://pesticidetruths.com/toc/myth-busting-prohibition/
CHILDREN ARE SAFE WITH PESTICIDES ! ― Pest control products represent NO threat to children since they are scientifically-safe and will cause NO harm. There is NO need for screeching-fanatics like Feldman to recklessly conspire to impose ARBITRARY PROHIBITION against pest control products used in the urban landscape. Leading scientific experts, like Dr Katherine von Stackelberg, say they would NOT hesitate to let their children play on a lawn where lawn care products have been used as long as the products were applied according to label directions. http://tinyurl.com/mw2fu7u According to another leading expert, Dr James S Bus, there is NO evidence that common lawn herbicides like 2,4-D cause cancer or any health problems in children. Dr Bus has also stated that there is NO regulatory agency in the world that regards pest control products like 2,4-D as a threat to children’s health. http://wp.me/p1jq40-7W0 According to yet another leading expert, Mr William Jordan, Deputy Director, Office of Pesticide Programs, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ( EPA ), parents DO NOT need to worry as long as a pest control product is used correctly. The EPA has spent a lot of time looking at products like 2,4-D, and has concluded that it is safe for kids. http://tinyurl.com/pe6x3h9 Screeching-Fanatics like Feldman falsely-allege an imaginary danger about children that is totally false, and is an untrue mis-representation merely designed to alarm and enrage the public. SAYING YES TO PESTICIDES WILL KEEP OUR CHILDREN SAFE AND WILL PROTECT THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT !
NONSENSE FROM BEYOND PESTICIDES ! ― Readers must be made aware that Feldman and Beyond Pesticides have ABSOLUTELY NO EXPERTISE in matters concerning ANY pest control products. Feldman operates this organization which is non-expert, profit-motivated, unethical, and conspires to recklessly and maliciously prohibit against conventional pest control products. Beyond Pesticides is operated by Feldman and a group of truth-challenged-fanatics who are clearly NOT competent to express any opinion concerning pest control products. Those who operate Beyond Pesticides include … • a non-expert duck farm operator • a non-expert indigent goat herder • a non-expert native Indian movement organizer • a non-expert marginal organic lawn care operator • a non-expert organic produce distributor • a non-expert zoologist. Beyond Pesticides may have some expertise in duck farming, fund-raising, goat herding, native Indians, organic produce, profit-making, and zoology, but has it has NO expertise whatsoever in pest control products. DOES ANYONE REALLY WANT TO LISTEN TO THIS #@!!% NONSENSE FROM BEYOND PESTICIDES ?!?!
WE SPEAK THE TRUTH ABOUT BEYOND PESTICIDES !
