In early 2015, Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA ) announced that 21 AUDITS had been completed.
Five charities had been advised that CRA intends to REVOKE THEIR CHARITY TAX-EXEMPT STATUS.
Their names were not been made public.
Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA ) reported that it found …
… several other serious non-compliance issues, beyond those related to political activities, [ including ] delivery of an undue benefit to a person involved with the charity.
Six charities were sent EDUCATION LETTERS.
COMPLIANCE AGREEMENTS were done with eight charities.
Presumably, those charities had issues, but they weren’t bad enough to cost them their charity tax-exempt status.
According to Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA ), as of September 2015, a further 28 AUDITS are underway and 11 more have yet to begin.
The roots of these AUDITS go back to 2010 when news broke that Canadian environmental charities [ a.k.a. Environmental-Terrorist Organizations ] were RECEIVING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS as part of The Tar Sands Campaign, a cross-border action to stop construction of PIPELINES for exporting Alberta OIL.

In early 2011, CRA BEGAN AUDITING TIDES CANADA, the charity that was most in the hot seat.
The Canadian federal budget for 2012 included 12,000,000 dollars for charity AUDITS.

Evidence of this comes from the U.S. tax returns of donor foundations, the original strategy paper for The Tar Sands Campaign, and a large series of COVERING LETTERS ON PAYMENTS MADE BY TIDES during 2013.
[ BACKGROUND INFORMATION ― The Oil Sands in Northern Alberta have a proven reserve of 170 billion barrels, the second largest proven reserves of crude oil in the world. Alberta has become the largest source of oil imported into the United States. With significant economic development and investment into the Oil Sands, the oil industry has enjoyed strong support by both the province’s government and the federal government. However, the Oil Industry has been subject to fanatical criticism by Environmental-Terrorist Organizations, that have adopted the inaccurate and derogatory term Tar Sands. While the Oil Industry has attempted to resolve environmental issues by developing new techniques, Environmental-Terrorist Organizations, such as Greenpeace, have called on oil companies and the Canadian government to stop the Oil Sands. Over the years, the percentage that went to registered charities in Canada has DIMINISHED BY HALF, down from 70 per cent, and TIDES HAS INCREASED FUNDING TO CANADIAN ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE NOT REGISTERED CHARITIES, including LeadNow and the Council of Canadians.
According to Ms Vivian Krause, if Tides FUNDED environmental and aboriginal groups to provide accurate, objective and comprehensive information, then that would serve a charitable purpose.
But that was not what Tides had been doing.

BILLIONS OF DOLLARS in potential royalties and revenue are AT RISK because Northern Gateway and the Keystone XL [ OIL ] PIPELINES have been delayed by years.

Over the past five years, these 15 environmental charities [ a.k.a. Environmental-Terrorist Organizations ] REPORT SPENDING A MERE ONE PER CENT OF TOTAL EXPENDITURE ON POLITICAL ACTIVITY. [ ?!?! ]
In view of THE TAR SANDS [ ANTI-OIL ] CAMPAIGN and other activities that these organizations have been involved in for many years, THIS ONE PER CENT FIGURE SEEMS LOW.
Tax returns for 2014, recently posted at the Canada Revenue Agency’s web-site, indicate that despite whatever AUDITS may be underway, TOTAL REVENUES AND EXPENDITURES ARE UP SLIGHTLY, with some exceptions.
For 2014, the 15 environmental charities [ a.k.a. Environmental-Terrorist Organizations ] mentioned earlier had total revenue of 76,000,000 dollars.
According to their tax returns, THEY RECEIVED 17,300,000 DOLLARS FROM OUTSIDE CANADA, triple what they reported in 2009 when Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA ) began to require charities to report their foreign funds.
CANADA REVENUE AGENCY’S AUDITS ARE A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA ) should also require the same level of disclosure as the American Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ).
Adopting IRS rules would mean that charities would be required to report the names of the highest paid employees and contractors, the amounts paid, and the services provided.

Back in 1993, the U.S. Tides Foundation incorporated in British Columbia under the name « Tides Foundation ».
[ BACKGROUND INFORMATION ― In at least one instance, the Vancouver address for Tides USA, as reported to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service by the Hewlett Foundation, was EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE ADDRESS of the David Suzuki Foundation ― 2211 WEST FOURTH AVENUE, SUITE 219. This demonstrates that Tides Canada operates as the FINANCIAL SHIELD for David Suzuki Foundation. Ten years later, in 2003, Tides changed the name of its Vancouver office to Tides Canada Foundation, records show.
Since 2010, ONE THIRD OF TIDES CANADA’S REVENUE IS FOREIGN.
For 2014, Tides Canada’s expenditures totaled 30,000,000 dollars for a range of environmental and social programs.
With 220 employees, it has an annual payroll of 17,000,000 dollars, including 9,000,000 dollars for consultants.
Obviously, TIDES IS NO SMALL OPERATION.
In 2013, Tides made at least 20 payments that are not listed in the details of publicly available U.S. tax returns, nor are any of these payments mentioned in the Tides’ annual list of grantees.
Without the COVERING LETTERS ON PAYMENTS MADE BY TIDES, there would have been no way of knowing that Tides made these payments to Canadian charities through the Tides Canada Foundation Exchange Fund.
Some of these payments, but not all, ARE CLEARLY FOR THE THE TAR SANDS [ ANTI-OIL ] CAMPAIGN.
For example, Tides FUNDED Sierra Club of British Columbia with 15,000 dollars for a project called, « Our Coast, Our Call : Mobilizing and Strengthening Opposition to Tanker Expansion on the British Columbia Coast ».
All payments went through the Tides Canada Foundation Exchange Fund, the COVERING LETTERS ON PAYMENTS MADE BY TIDES say. Tides Canada says that the Exchange Fund facilitates gifts to Canadian charities from U.S. individuals, corporations, and foundations.
« This unique solution provides donors the flexibility to support international charities and gives charities the flexibility to receive gifts without money ever crossing the border, » says Tides Canada in an undated web-page, adding that this arrangement has enabled gifts of 22,600,000 dollars to Canadian charities.
Back in 2012, then federal cabinet ministers Joe Oliver and Peter Kent suggested that Canadian environmental charities [ a.k.a. Environmental-Terrorist Organizations ] WERE USING FOREIGN FUNDS TO BLOCK [ OIL ] PIPELINE PROJECTS, Tides Canada’s CEO, Ross McMillan, expressed MOCK-OUTRAGE, calling these allegations « desperate and preposterous ». [ ?!?! ]
« There is no evidence that any of this is taking place. He should apologize, » McMillan told CBC. [ ?!?! ]
Sara Goodman, then a senior employee of Tides Canada testified to a standing committee of the Senate of Canada, « This myth of huge amounts of American FUNDING coming through Tides Canada to oppose the oil sands is exactly that: It is a myth. » [ ?!?! ]
And yet, according to the COVERING LETTERS ON PAYMENTS MADE BY TIDES on payments that have come to light since then, forwarding U.S. FUNDING to Canadian charities that are involved in THE TAR SANDS [ ANTI-OIL ] CAMPAIGN is exactly what Tides and Tides Canada have been doing.
Since 2013, Canada Revenue Agency ( CRA ) REQUIRES CHARITIES TO REPORT REVENUE FROM OUTSIDE CANADA THAT IS EAR-MARKED FOR POLITICAL ACTIVITY.
Tides Canada Foundation reported ZERO FOREIGN FUNDING FOR PARTISAN POLITICAL INTERFERENCE [ ?!?! ] in 2014 and only 2,000 dollars for 2013.
And yet, one of the 2013 COVERING LETTERS ON PAYMENTS MADE BY TIDES was for 20,000 dollars « to push the government of Alberta to enact or strengthen climate policies ».
For 2014, Tides Canada reported spending 160,000 dollars on political activity, 0.5 per cent of total expenditures, and ZERO FOREIGN FUNDING FOR PARTISAN POLITICAL INTERFERENCE [ ?!?! ] .
And yet, in 2014, Tides Canada provided 1,100,000 dollars on the Great Bear Initiative, a central organization in THE TAR SANDS [ ANTI-OIL ] CAMPAIGN, FUNDED with at least 394,000 dollars by Tides.
Tides Canada spent a further 475,000 dollars on Pacific Wild, which has since been folded into the Great Bear Initiative.
In a fund-raising proposal for a 400,000-dollar project with five staff, Pacific Wild wrote to a U.S. FUNDER that ITS GOAL IS THE CANCELLATION OF NORTHERN GATEWAY AND FEDERAL LEGISLATION BANNING TANKER TRAFFIC ON THE NORTH COAST OF BRITISH COLUMBIA.
Pacific Wild’s goal was to CREATE PUBLIC PRESSURE DIRECTED AT THE CANADIAN GOVERNMENT.
« Simply put, IF TANKERS ARE BANNED FROM THE COAST, NO [ OIL ] PIPELINE WILL EVER BE BUILT, » wrote Ian McCallister, the project’s director.
Communicopia, another organization FUNDED to some degree by Tides Canada, provides communications support and develops « on-line real estate » for at least 60 environmental and aboriginal organizations involved in THE TAR SANDS [ ANTI-OIL ] CAMPAIGN.
Communicopia helped with singer Neil Young’s [ ANTI-OIL ] CONCERTS, the Act On Climate rally in Quebec, and Pull Together, an Anti-Oil Campaign to raise FUNDS for First Nations legal action against Enbridge.
Through the Charitable Impact Foundation, Communicopia has been FUNDED by Tides Canada for unspecified purposes.
But unless you read U.S. tax returns, you wouldn’t know.
Organizing for Change, a project of Tides Canada, has received at least 650,000 dollars from U.S. foundations since 2010.
This project has a long list of policy-related goals, including a British-Columbia-based review of the Kinder Morgan [ OIL ] PIPELINE.
Popular Change, also partially FUNDED by Tides Canada, provides voter/supporter identification and telephone services.
Its client list also includes Lead Now, Dogwood Initiative, and at least six charities involved in THE TAR SANDS [ ANTI-OIL ] CAMPAIGN along with their U.S. FUNDERS.
In view of its U.S. FUNDING and activities, IT DOES NOT STAND TO REASON that on total expenditures of 30,000,000 dollars of which 9,000,000 dollars ( 8.3 million dollars and 698,000 dollars ) was from outside Canada, the amount that Tides Canada received for ZERO FOREIGN FUNDING FOR PARTISAN POLITICAL INTERFERENCE [ ?!?! ] .
TRUTH-CHALLENGED ENVIRONMENTAL-TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS ARE LUNATIC LIARS … THEY LIE AND LIE AND LIE AND LIE !
Over the years, Tides has MARKEDLY INCREASED FUNDING to Canadian organizations that are NOT REGISTERED CHARITIES.
In 2014, Tides paid 379,000 dollars to Sisu Society, a non-profit society that FUNDS LeadNow, and 201,000 dollars to the Dogwood Initiative.
The total that Tides has paid to Sisu Society since 2012 is 609,000 dollars, making it THE TOP CANADIAN RECIPIENT OF FUNDS FROM TIDES SINCE 2009.
According to A COVERING LETTER ON A PAYMENT MADE BY TIDES, LeadNow was funded « to generate on-line Anti-Oil Campaigning, grassroots organizing, and public events designed to foster a national conversation about a Canada that is NOT DRIVEN BY TAR SANDS DEVELOPMENT and which will encourage policy reform to protect the climate and the environment ».
