LETTER TO THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON COSMETIC PESTICIDES
PROVINCE BRITISH COLUMBIA
OVERVIEW
The Golf Industry DESERVES Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION as much as the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
In a DESPICABLE effort to DISTRACT activists, government officials, and the public, several trade associations have SUPPORTED the PROHIBITION of pest control products in the Urban Landscape since 2008.
Even MORE DESPICABLE, some Golf Industry trade associations have FINANCIALLY SUPPORTED Anti-Pesticide Organizations in their CONSPIRACIES against the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
With NO REMORSE, Golf Industry trade associations TORPEDOED the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
The government officials who are members of the Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may consider following the advice of organizations like Canadian Cancer Society, and recommend to IMPOSE PROHIBITION on ALL those industries that use pest control products, INCLUDING THE GOLF INDUSTRY.
If the Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides concludes that pest control products are NOT SAFE for use on HOME LAWNS, then it may also conclude that the very same products are UNSAFE for use on GOLF FACILITIES.
The PATCH-WORK of VARYING DEGREES of PROHIBITION may be deemed as UNDESIRABLE in British Columbia.
This letter is a follow-up to the one sent on October 21st, 2011 ―

WESTERN CANADA TURFGRASS ASSOCIATION ( WCTA )
The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may be CONFUSED by some of the statements made by WCTA, which DOES NOT represent the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
In fact, the statements made by WCTA will lead to EXTENSIVE DAMAGES the Professional Lawn Care Industry !
Here is an excerpt from National Allied Golf Association ( a.k.a. Western Canada Turfgrass Association, WCTA ) presentation to the Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides of British Columbia on October 26th, 2011 ―
The Western Canada Turfgrass Association, which I represent, is the education and research body not only for the golf industry but the TURF MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY IN GENERAL.
WCTA is a trade association representing the interests of the Golf Industry ONLY; and WCTA is certainly NOT a research body.
During the October 26th, 2011 presentation, WCTA also expressed an unfortunate desire to PROHIBIT weed control products in the Urban Landscape ―
But mostly, I would comment, those are the weeds. Frankly, we [ Western Canada Turfgrass Association ] don’t care too much about the dandelions. They don’t bother too many people.
Moreover, for several years, both Western Canada Turfgrass Association and its parent organization, Canadian Golf Superintendents Association ( CGSA ), have OFFICIALLY SUPPORTED the PROHIBITION of pest control products in the Urban Landscape.
With NO REMORSE, Western Canada Turfgrass Association TORPEDOED the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
CANADIAN GOLF SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION ( CGSA )
The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may be CONFUSED by some of the statements made by CGSA, which DOES NOT represent the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
On February 15th, 2010, in a Public Consultation Forum on the Cosmetic Use of Pesticides, CGSA expressed an unfortunate desire to PROHIBIT pest control products in the Urban Landscape ―
As such, the British Columbia Golf Industry WELCOMES the Provincial Government’s proposal to introduce pesticide legislation that will level the business playing field from the uneven situation currently being created by the enactment of municipal by-laws.
In Ontario, the voice of Golf Industry trade associations like CGSA led to the ANNIHILATION of the Professional Lawn Care Industry !
Here is a statement from a high-ranking CGSA spokesman regarding Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION in Ontario in April 2008 ―
[ … ] associations like the CGSA, Royal Canadian Golf Association [ … ] APPLAUDED McGuinty and the governing Liberals for making this announcement [ regarding the Ontario prohibition ] . [ A ] reason for the golf industry’s support of this provincial initiative stems from the fact we will be exempted.
With NO REMORSE, Canadian Golf Superintendents Association TORPEDOED the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION INFLICTED HORRENDOUS CARNAGE, especially in Ontario.
Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION led to EXTENSIVE CARNAGE for Professional Lawn Care companies, in the form of HORRIFIC FINES and BUSINESS FAILURES.
GOLF CANADA
The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may be CONFUSED by some of the activities of Golf Canada AGAINST the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
Across Canada, the FINANCIAL SUPPORT of Golf Industry trade associations like Golf Canada ( a.k.a. Royal Canadian Golf Association ) EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED and ANNIHILATED the Professional Lawn Care Industry !
More precisely, since 2004, Golf Canada has provided Canadian Cancer Society with MILLIONS OF DOLLARS through fund-raising programs like Golf Fore The Cure.
Golf Canada raises over 700,000 DOLLARS per year for the SUBVERSIVE, CONTEMPTIBLE, and RADICAL Canadian Cancer Society.
The LOATHSOME and RIDICULOUS Golf Canada gives money to organizations that CONSPIRE to PROHIBIT pest control products in the Urban Landscape.
With NO REMORSE, Golf Canada TORPEDOED the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
Ironically, Canadian Cancer Society wants to IMPOSE Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION on the Golf Industry.
CONSEQUENCES OF GOLF INDUSTRY BETRAYAL
The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may be CONFUSED by the statements and actions of the Golf Industry trade associations.
These IDIOTIC trade associations have gone out of their way to SUPPORT Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION against the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
These IDIOTIC trade associations not only TORPEDOED the Professional Lawn Care Industry, they have also VALIDATED the Anti-Pesticide agenda.
The actions of these IDIOTIC trade associations was DEVASTATING to the Professional Lawn Care Industry ― legal experts have indicated that this is GROUNDS FOR A LAWSUIT, and a consensus is building among Professional Lawn Care companies to seek damages with a class-action lawsuit.
Moreover, the Anti-Pesticide agenda will next lead to TOTAL PROHIBITION of pest control products AND even fertilizers … INCLUDING the Golf Industry.
The leading Anti-Pesticide Organizations like Canadian Cancer Society want to IMPOSE PROHIBITION on the Golf Industry.
GOLF INDUSTRY EXCEPTION STATUS
The Golf Industry enjoys the benefits from an Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION EXCEPTION STATUS despite the fact that it uses the VERY SAME INGREDIENTS used in Professional Lawn Care maintenance.
Moreover, in those jurisdictions that REFUSE TO RESCIND or IMPOSE PROHIBITION, the Professional Lawn Care Industry will no doubt DEMAND THAT ALL EXCEPTIONS TO PROHIBITION BE RESCINDED ― including GOLF.
The Golf Industry must plan for the INEVITABLE and TOTAL REVOCATION of its EXCEPTION STATUS in most jurisdictions across Canada, in two to four years.
The Golf Industry Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION EXCEPTION STATUS is expected to be first RESCINDED in the Provinces of Prince Edward Island and British Columbia.
Even in the Province of Prince Edward Island ( PEI ), the Golf Industry was provided with an Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION EXCEPTION STATUS, and its use of pest control products WAS NOT PROHIBITED.
The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides is likely aware that PEI has issued a WARNING to the Golf Industry.
THE BEGINNING OF THE END OF THE EXCEPTION STATUS
In fact, the BEGINNING OF THE END of the Golf Industry EXCEPTION STATUS occurred on December 2nd, 2009, when a Prince Edward Island ( PEI ) Government Official issued the following WARNING ―
We’re allowing ( 2,4-D ) on GOLF COURSES because it’s a major industry for PEI and we’re working towards getting off it. What we’re basically saying is you [ THE GOLF INDUSTRY ] better find a way to get off it over the next couple of years.
ELIMINATING THE PATCH-WORK
The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may decide to agree with the WARNING from Prince Edward Island.
The Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may conclude that pest control products are UNSAFE for use on HOME LAWNS, as well as UNSAFE for use on GOLF FACILITIES.
The PATCH-WORK of VARYING DEGREES of PROHIBITION may be deemed UNDESIRABLE in British Columbia.
Nonetheless, it is expected that it will be only a matter of time before conventional pest control products WILL BE PROHIBITED not only from the Golf Industry, but also from other industries like Agriculture, Mosquito Control, Nursery, Sod Production, and Sports Fields.
All of these industries use the VERY SAME INGREDIENTS used in Professional Lawn Care maintenance.
Interestingly, 800,000 GOLFERS in British Columbia are EXPOSED to the VERY SAME INGREDIENTS used by the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
The trade associations have good reasons to FEAR the LOOMING GOLF INDUSTRY SHIPWRECK.

CONCLUSION
The Golf Industry enjoys the benefits from an Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION EXCEPTION STATUS despite the fact that it uses the VERY SAME INGREDI-ENTS used in Professional Lawn Care maintenance.
If it is safe to walk and play on a pesticide-treated golf course putting green, it is also safe to walk on a pesticide-treated lawn.
Moreover, Professional Lawn Care maintenance requires LESS PESTICIDE-INPUTS than Golf Course turf.
Golf Industry trade associations ALLEGE that the best way to MINIMIZE INPUTS is through the use of Integrated Pest Management ( IPM ), despite the fact that, overall, IPM cultural practices DO NOT CONTROL PESTS of established turf and ornamentals.

Golf Industry trade associations ALLEGE that pest control products are not used « cosmetically » on golf courses, and yet, a DEBATE RAGES ON about GO BROWN Anti-Cosmetic Golf Maintenance.

Finally, the Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides may wish to examine the entire CONSPIRACY to PROHIBIT pest control products in British Columbia.
