Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford ― who became world famous for his personal issues while in office ― passed away on March 22nd, 2016, after a battle with cancer.
In 2014, Mr Ford was diagnosed with pleomorphic liposarcoma after a tumor was found in his abdomen.
He underwent surgeries and multiple rounds of chemotherapy, but the cancer proved too strong.
Mr Ford’s promise to « stop the gravy train » at city hall became the central mantra of his 2010 mayoral campaign, and ultimately lifted him to victory.
Mr Ford became mayor of Canada’s biggest city by taking 47 per cent of the vote and outpacing his closest competitor by 10 points.
Mr Ford served as mayor from 2010 to 2014.
As mayor, Mr Ford introduced a number of significant changes, including the repeal of the dreaded vehicle registration tax, outsourcing garbage collection in the city’s west-end, and a deal with city workers that averted a strike.
In 2000, Mr Ford was elected councillor for Ward 2 Etobicoke North, a suburb in Toronto’s west-end, where he gained a reputation as a brash populist and cost-cutting crusader.
Mr Ford was so committed to addressing the concerns of his constituents that he made an effort to return every phone call personally, even going so far as to give out his home number.
He was also known as …
• a millionaire with a working-class attitude
• a cost-cutting crusader, and
• a man who while serving as mayor often seemed more interested in coaching a high school football team.
Mr Ford showed his dedication to the community in other ways, also — for example, by hosting the annual Ford Fest Summer Barbecue, a free event open to the public.
Mr Ford was also opposed to the reckless conspiracy to arbitrarily prohibit against pest control products used in the urban landscape.
Although he admitted to using recreational drugs, he denied that he was an addict.
In 2014, Mr Ford went to rehab to seek help for his problem, and, after a 2 month stint, he returned to work.
Mr Ford died at Mount Sinai hospital in Toronto, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
The Toronto Conspiracy To Impose Anti-Pesticide Prohibition
On May 20th, 2004, City of Toronto imposed its PROHIBITION against pest control products, with enforcement against residential home-owners starting in September 2007, and against businesses operating in the Professional Lawn Care Industry in September 2005.
Not every Elected Official within City of Toronto was in agreement with the passage of a by-law that prohibited pest control products.
26 Voted YES for prohibition.
17 Voted AGAINST prohibition, including Mr Rob Ford, the Mayor elected in 2010.
Many of these Elected Officials presented themselves as CANDIDATES in the 2010 Toronto Election Campaign.
Many candidates who sought re-election, and had voted YES for prohibition ( or SUPPORTED prohibition ), were DEFEATED.
ABSOLUTELY ALL candidates who sought re-election, and had voted AGAINST prohibition, were RE-ELECTED.
Candidates who voted YES, or SUPPORTED prohibition, seemed to possess a DEFECT IN CHARACTER that led them to DEFEAT in the 2010 Election Campaign.
MANY WERE DUMPED, AND PUT OUT TO PASTURE FAIRLY QUICKLY.
