Despite I.P.M. Law, New York City
Applied Roundup To Public Spaces
Nearly 500 Times In 2011
Integrated Pest Management DOES NOT
SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE OR ELIMINATE
the use of pest control products while
effectively and consistently controlling pests
Overview
Despite its I.P.M. Law, the City of New York applied Roundup Herbicide to public spaces nearly 500 times in 2011.
Moreover, New York City Agencies also used a total of 7,324 gallons and 123,482 pounds of PESTICIDES in 2011.
Integrated Pest Management ( I.P.M. ) in New York City is a DISMAL FAILURE.
I.P.M. DOES NOT SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE OR ELIMINATE the use of pest control products while effectively and consistently controlling pests.
I.P.M. DOES NOT CONTROL PESTS.
There is NOTHING WRONG with conventional pest control programs.
There is NO NEED to attempt to adjust them with I.P.M.
I.P.M. will NEVER APPEASE Anti-Pesticide Lunatics who CONSPIRE TO PROHIBIT ALL PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS.
Moreover, #@!!% I.P.M. NONSENSE will NOT improve the public and political LACK-OF-CONFIDENCE regarding the safety of pest control products.
I.P.M. is a FAILED PUBLIC AFFAIRS STRATEGY.
I.P.M. Failure In The City Of New York
According to a report from New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene ( DOHMH ), ROUNDUP IS THE MOST FREQUENTLY APPLIED HERBICIDE IN THE CITY.
According to Anti-Pesticide Lunatics, this has occurred in violation of the spirit and intent of the 2005-passed the Pesticide Usage Law ( Local Law 37 ), which supposedly put New York City on track to eliminate so-called dependency on hazardous pesticides, and submit a city INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT ( I.P.M. ) plan to the mayor every January.
The report, Pesticide Use By New York City Agencies In 2011, indicates that over 500 gallons of Roundup in various formulations was applied to city ground in the year 2011.
City data confirms that 34.2 per cent of HERBICIDE applications included Roundup last year, a 40 per cent increase from 2010.
However, New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection has supervised the use of Roundup around sensitive environmental areas such as the Pepacton Reservoir, which supplies 25 per cent of the city’s water.
New York City’s report states ―
The active ingredient glyphosate POSES LITTLE RISK OF ACUTE POISONINGS OR CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS and HAS NOT BEEN SHOWN TO BE CARCINOGENIC.
With thousands of studies over several decades, NO replicated scientifically valid study has found any human harm from Glyphosate.
Anti-Pesticide Lunatics have been DISCREDITED, with their allegations being REFUTED by REAL Experts.
Glyphosate is SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE.
Using Integrated Pest Management as a means of ELIMINATING PESTICIDES is a DISMAL FAILURE AND A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

Selected and Adapted Excerpts
Pesticide Use By New York City Agencies In 2011
Local Law 54 of 2007 requires the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene ( DOHMH ) to summarize annual City agencies’ pesticide use.
In 2011, 22 municipal agencies reported to DOHMH their pesticide use in a format that enabled summarization within and across agencies.
This report summarizes pesticides applied by or on behalf of agencies on city-owned or leased property.
Key findings include ―
• PESTICIDES were applied a total of 149,278 times by New York City in 2011.
Agencies used a total of 7,324 gallons and 123,482 pounds of PESTICIDES.
• INSECTICIDES were the most frequently applied type of pesticide, accounting for nearly 59 per cent of all applications.
• The most heavily used type of pesticide by volume was HERBICIDES, accounting for 55 per cent while INSECTICIDES by weight made up 52 per cent of all PESTICIDES used by City agencies.
● When excluding the DOHMH West Nile Virus ( WNV ) larviciding program, RODENTICIDES were the most heavily used with 51 per cent by weight.
• New York City agencies are not the only users of PESTICIDES in New York City.
New York State summarizes PESTICIDE use by all applicators ― commercial and private.
Comparing New York City agencies’ use in 2005 ( the last year New York State released its data ), local government use accounts for just 2 per cent of the total volume of liquid PESTICIDES, and 13 per cent of the total pounds of solid PESTICIDES applied within the five boroughs of New York City.
• In comparison to reporting amounts in 2010, there was a 27 per cent increase in HERBICIDE use by volume continuing to show broad annual fluctuations in application amounts.
• There was a 29 per cent decrease in INSECTICIDES by volume.
Most of that decline was a 28 per cent reduction in PYRETHROIDS applied, especially for the control of cockroaches.
• « Best Management Practices » products ― largely gel and bait INSECTICIDES with little potential for human exposure ― accounted for 27 per cent of the number of INSECTICIDE applications in 2011, an increase of 14 per cent from the number of applications in 2010.
The total quantity ( weight ) of these « Best Management Practices » products used declined slightly by 8 per cent.
This follows a trend from previous years of decline in the amounts of these products reported by weight.
• There was a 19 per cent decrease in RODENTICIDE amounts used by agencies over 2010, but there is no clear trend in use over the past four years.
The timing and size of neighborhood rat « indexing » campaigns can influence year-to-year trends in use.
• Roaches were the most commonly targeted pests in 2011, with rats, mice, bed bugs and mosquitos making up the top 5 pests by number of total applications.
• The amount of PYRETHROIDS by volume applied to target bed bugs has declined by 5 per cent since 2010 after a decline by 36 per cent from 2009 to 2010.
• The amount of PYRETHROIDS by volume applied to target roaches show wide fluctuations year to year with a 36 per cent decline from 2010 to 2011 after an 89 per cent increase from 2009 to 2010.

Considerations … #@!!% BOGUS I.P.M. NONSENSE
In agriculture, Integrated Pest Management ( I.P.M. ) is a pest control strategy that uses a variety of complementary strategies including ― mechanical devices, physical devices, genetic, biological, cultural management, and chemical management.
For several decades, Integrated Pest Management has been BASTERDIZED into many versions in order to suit the needs Enviro-Lunatics, Educators, and others.
The Enviro-Lunatic-Version of Integrated Pest Management DEMANDS the ELIMINATION of the use of conventional pest control products while at the same time managing pest populations at an acceptable level.
Unfortunately, Integrated Pest Management has been designed to be applicable to the Agriculture Industry, and NOT the Green Space Industry.
Overall, Integrated Pest Management is a DISMAL FAILURE AND A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY for the Green Space Industry.
Overall, I.P.M. cultural practices DO NOT CONTROL PESTS of established turf and ornamentals.
Integrated Pest Management has been designed to be applicable to the Agriculture Industry, and NOT the Green Space Industry
Integrated Pest Management is a FAILURE and a WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY for the Green Space Industry.
Moreover, using Integrated Pest Management ACCOMPLISHES VIRTUALLY NOTHING in terms of resolving the PUBLIC AFFAIRS ISSUES concerning the PROHIBITION of conventional pest control products.
Nor does the Pesticide-Free Version of Integrated Pest Management effectively and consistently control the pests of turf and ornamental plants.
Pesticide-Free Integrated Pest Management will NEVER achieve the level of total reduction or elimination attained by using conventional pest control products.
Wherever Pesticide-Free Integrated Pest Management is entirely relied upon for the maintenance of turf and ornamentals, damaging pests MAY only be slightly suppressed, AT THE EXPENSE OF PLANT GROWTH AND PLAYING CONDITIONS.
In practice, I.P.M. MAY BE MORE USEFUL in providing some LIMITED IMPROVEMENT towards the efficiency and effectiveness of conventional pest control products.

The DISMAL FAILURE of Ontario Voluntary Turf I.P.M. Accreditation
In essence, Integrated Pest Management became FASHIONABLE because of the impending threat of PROHIBITION of conventional pest control products.
For example, in 2005, the Ontario Green Space Industry launched I.P.M. ACCREDITATION as an alternative to the looming municipal PROHIBITIONS against conventional pest control products.
Indeed, since 2003, Pamela Charbonneau, a Turfgrass Specialist with Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, had been spear-heading the ambitious Ontario Voluntary Turf Integrated Pest Management Accreditation program for the Modern Professional Lawn Care Industry.
Charbonneau claimed, naively, but in good faith, that …
The I.P.M. Council has proposed I.P.M. Accreditation as an alternative to pesticide prohibitions in municipalities in Ontario as a means to APPEASE environmentalists.
Ontario Voluntary Turf Integrated Pest Management Accreditation may have served only to irritate Non-Expert Anti-Pesticide Lunatics, who countered that this Ontario I.P.M. program SHOULD HAVE ELIMINATED the need to use ALL conventional pest control products.
In the final analysis, the Ontario Voluntary Turf Integrated Pest Management Accreditation program was a DISMAL FAILURE.
Despite the fact that pest control products are HEALTH-CANADA-APPROVED AND SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE, dozens of Ontario municipalities legislated PROHIBITION.
Finally, on April 22nd, 2009, the Government of Ontario implemented legislation the NEEDLESS, SENSELESS, and MALICIOUS PROHIBITION against pest control products used by the Modern Professional Lawn Care Industry.
Unfortunately, Integrated Pest Management has NOT been scientifically proven to SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE OR ELIMINATE the use of pest control products while effectively and consistently controlling the pests that damage turf and ornamental plants.
Moreover, Pesticide-Free Integrated Pest Management DOES NOT effectively and consistently control the pests of turf and ornamental plants.

The DISMAL FAILURE of I.P.M. As A Public Affairs Strategy
Integrated Pest Management will NEVER APPEASE Anti-Pesticide Lunatics.
#@!!% I.P.M. NONSENSE will NOT improve the public and political LACK-OF-CONFIDENCE regarding the safety of products used by the Green Space Industry.
The Green Space Industry must CEASE focusing on #@!! % I.P.M. NONSENSE as the solution to its public affairs problems.
The leaders of the Green Space Industry who are promoting #@!!% I.P.M. NONSENSE are leading everyone to their DOOM !
MOST people who promote Integrated Pest Management have NO adequate expertise, training, or background, in these matters ― they tend to know about as much as those people listening to them ― they are NOT true « experts » !
MOST people who claim Integrated Pest Management actually works are simply DAY-DREAMING IN THE OUTER LIMITS.
Moreover, several people who allege that Integrated Pest Management works effectively are likely CONCOCTING LIES, MISCONCEPTIONS, and DECEPTIONS for their own twisted personal interests ― their so-called success stories regarding I.P.M. are usually UNVERIFIABLE.
#@!!% I.P.M. NONSENSE IS A FAILURE AND A WASTE OF TIME !
