Mr. Speaker, I thank my seconder for the introduction of this important bill.
The bill seeks to put a MORATORIUM [ a.k.a. PROHIBITION ] on the use of chemical pesticides in the home, garden, and recreational facilities, such as parks and GOLF COURSES, until the SCIENTIFIC AND MEDICAL EVIDENCE SHOWING THAT SUCH USE IS SAFE has been presented to Parliament and confirmed in a report prepared by a parliamentary committee.
[ Martin already got his wish … Scientific research shows, as reported through Health Canada’s vast toxicology database, that NO harm will occur when pesticides are used according to label directions. ]
The bill seeks to put the reverse onus on the chemical companies for them to prove the product is safe, instead of putting the onus on the individual to try to prove that the product is dangerous, an impossible test in many areas.
[ Martin already got his wish … Health Canada oversees the testing and approval of pest control products by using SOUND SCIENCE in order to ensure that they are SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE. The ASSESSMENT proving that pest control products are SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE is a process that can take up to TEN YEARS and COST HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. ]
We [ the Enviro-Lunatics at New Democratic Party a.k.a. Canadian Cancer Society ] believe the bill has broad support, and I would seek the co-operation of my colleagues in the House of Commons for the passage of this bill at second reading.
[ There is NO broad support for Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION. A POLL conducted by Canadian Consumer Specialty Products Association ( CCSPA ) showed that the VAST MAJORITY of residents are OPPOSED to the PROHIBITION of conventional pest control products, and they actually FAVOUR the continued use of these products around their homes and in public green spaces. ]

I rise to speak on behalf of all New Democrats on our motion to BAN THE USE OF PESTICIDES used for cosmetic purposes in private homes and public spaces.
A motion that I’m pleased to have rest in my name.
Mr. Speaker, only five countries in the world use more pesticides per capita than Canada. [ So what ? ]
This is an issue that impacts our environment, and it’s an issue that impacts the very health of Canadians. [ ?!?! ]
That’s why New Democrats are calling on Parliamentarians from all parties to support this motion and take a positive step forward together.
Mr. Speaker, in back yards and school yards, parks, gardens and green spaces across Canada a TOXIC COCKTAIL OF CANCER causing chemicals are being used to kill weeds, and pests. [ WRONG ! ]
While these CARCINOGENS [ ?!?! ] are very effective at keeping our yards and public spaces looking green, they are far from being green.
Pesticides that in many cases may have life altering implications not just in the near term, but decades down the road, such as immune system damage [ WRONG ! ], reproductive damage [ WRONG ! ], skeletal abnormalities [ WRONG ! ], skin damage [ WRONG ! ], and cancer [ WRONG ! ].
As the Canadian Cancer Society has said, and I quote ―
« Since the ornamental use of pesticides has no countervailing health benefit and has the potential to cause harm [ WRONG ! ], we call for a ban on the use of pesticides on lawns and gardens. » [ WRONG ! ]
So Mr. Speaker, why does the federal government continue to allow these cancer-causing pesticides to be used ? [ ?!?! ]
These chemicals are seeping into our soil [ WRONG ! ], leaching into the water we drink [ WRONG ! ], being absorbed by our homes [ WRONG ! ], harming our bodies and claiming the lives of our CHILDREN [ WRONG ! ].
Mr. Speaker, the wait and see attitude of past governments puts more and more Canadians at risk. [ ?!?! ]
It is time to take concrete action to ban the use of these unnecessary cosmetic pesticides. [ WRONG ! ]
That’s why New Democrats are moving this motion.
That’s why we’re calling on the pesticide manufacturers to prove that their products are safe before they can be marketed to the Canadian public. [ ?!?! ]
Just as the government oversees and regulates the use of drugs, the use of pesticides must be held to similar government oversight. [ ?!?! ]
By reversing the onus of proof, with proper scientific and government oversight we will move Canada forward toward a greener, cleaner, future that is healthier for our CHILDREN and grandchildren. [ WRONG ! ]

Jack Layton was one of the GREATEST ANTI-PESTICIDE LUNATIC-TERRORISTS to have EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
