March 2011
The federal government is putting money into fighting cancer.
Ottawa will provide $250 million over five years to the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is announcing the funding during a visit to Toronto today.
The funds will start flowing in April 2012.
The government had previously given the group a similar amount which runs out this year.
The partnership is a non-profit organization set up in 2006 that aims to help Canadians deal with cancer.
Mr. Harper says the money will help in earlier diagnosis and treatment.
