On December 19th, 2012, Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc. was FINED 10,000 DOLLARS for offering to perform a mosquito extermination by unauthorized employees and for using a pesticide that was neither federally registered or provincially classified in Canada.
Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc. operates a landscape company in London, Ontario.
Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc. was FINED a total of 10,000 DOLLARS plus VICTIM FINE SURCHARGES of 2,500 DOLLARS, and given 90 days to pay the fine.
The company offered to perform a MOSQUITO EXTERMINATION when no employees were authorized to perform the job ( i.e. they did not possess the necessary licensing ).
An employee applied a MOSQUITO-CONTROL PESTICIDE on a property in Parkhill, Ontario.
In fact, the company’s BIG MISTAKE was applying a standard insect control application for LAND / LANDSCAPE, and claiming that it controlled MOSQUITOES, which is nonetheless TRUE, regardless of the CATEGORIES FOR PESTICIDE LICENSING IN ONTARIO. ( See next segment. )
As of early 2013, Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc. continued to advertise a MOSQUITO MANAGEMENT PROGRAM on its Web-Site.
Categories For Pesticide Licensing In Ontario
Any person who operates a pesticide extermination business ( i.e. obtains a fee for service ) must hold an OPERATOR LICENSE.
Any person who applies pesticides commercially must hold an EXTERMINATOR LICENSE.
There are three types of licences ― LAND, STRUCTURAL, and WATER.
For businesses operating in the Professional Lawn Care Industry, like Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc., the required license category for is LAND / LANDSCAPE.
The LAND / LANDSCAPE category DOES NOT INCLUDE MOSQUITOES.
MOSQUITOES require a separate licence category ― WATER / MOSQUITO / BITING FLIES.
In other words, under Ontario law, Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc. WAS REQUIRED TO HOLD TWO OPERATOR LICENSES IN TWO SEPARATE CATEGORIES.
Furthermore, its employees WERE REQUIRED TO HOLD TWO EXTERMINATOR LICENSES IN TWO SEPARATE CATEGORIES.

Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc. DID NOT DESERVE A 10,000 DOLLAR FINE.
Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc.’s BIG MISTAKE was applying a standard insect control application for LAND / LANDSCAPE, and claiming that it controlled MOSQUITOES.
This MISTAKE was merely TECHNICAL and ADMINISTRATIVE, and had NOTHING TO DO WITH ANY POSSIBLE THREAT TO THE ENVIRONMENT.
Great Lakes Lawn Care Inc. was FINED a total of 10,000 DOLLARS for a VIOLATION that was completely OUT-OF-PROPORTION with the seriousness of the VIOLATION.
This FINE clearly demonstrates AN ABUSE OF GOVERNMENT POWER AND AUTHORITY in order to further advance an Anti-Pesticide agenda.
This HORRIFIC FINE was IMPOSED with the intention to further DESTROY businesses that operate within the HATED Professional Lawn Care Industry.

According to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, in the Media Release concerning the VIOLATION ―
Following the pesticide application, trees, shrubs, and flower gardens began WILTING AND DYING. [ ?!?! ]
This is HIGHLY UNLIKELY.
This UNVERIFIABLE ALLEGATION OF WILTING AND DEATH WAS MORE LIKELY CONCOCTED AS A MEANS OF EXAGERATING THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE VIOLATION.
It is also FAR MORE LIKELY that THIS ALLEGATION WAS CONCOCTED AS MERE PROPAGANDA used to serve as a PRETEXT FOR IMPOSING A HORRIFIC AND STUNNINGLY DEBILITATING FINE.

According to Jim Bradley, Minister of the Environment, in the Media Release concerning the VIOLATION ―
The Province is always prepared to go to court to defend the NATURAL ENVIRONMENT from those who would treat it irresponsibly and cause harm. [ ?!?! ]
In other words, the HORRIFIC FINE was also IMPOSED under the added PRETEXT that the so-called NATURAL ENVIRONMENT somehow needed to be protected from pest control products.
Clearly, Ontario Government Officials WILL SAY ANYTHING in order to JUSTIFY THEIR HORRIFIC FINES.
