The wells for several homes in the neighbourhood tested positive for dieldrin, but at levels in PARTS PER TRILLION ― A MINUSCULE QUANTITY.
As of January 6th, 2012, 287 wells were TESTED in the Country Club Estates neighbourhood ― of those, 171 were rated as DIELDRIN NON-DETECT WELLS, 116 exceeded the state’s level for contamination, and only 5 exceeded the maximum contaminant level established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
It appeared that the DIELDRIN NON-DETECT WELLS remained uncontaminated.
Six months later, as of July 11th, 2012, 160 DIELDRIN NON-DETECT WELLS were RE-TESTED in the Country Club Estates neighbourhood ― of those, 4 exceeded the state’s level for contamination, and NONE exceeded the maximum contaminant level established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
In the previous year, on November 21st, 2011, the City of DeLand received reports on sampling from reclaimed water taken from lines at the DeLand Country Club’s maintenance area, which tested at 0.0033 MICROGRAMS PER LITER, or 3.3 PARTS PER TRILLION, and from the golf course irrigation booster pump station, which tested at 0.0031 MICROGRAMS PER LITER, or 3.1 PARTS PER TRILLION.
They were MINUSCULEE CONCENTRATIONS.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency allows a MAXIMUM LEVEL OF 0.2 MICROGRAMS PER LITER.
Observers point out that the mere ability to measure or detect the presence of a pest control ingredient in the environment is NOT an indication that the substance poses any health risk, especially at the trace levels at which we can now detect them, which is in parts per trillion.

History Of Dieldrin
In 1987, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency removed dieldrin from all uses, including as a termite treatment.
Dieldrin was developed in the 1940s as an alternative to DDT, and proved to be a highly effective insecticide that was very widely used from the 1950s to the early 1970s.
The presence of dieldrin in those regions where it has never been used raised concerns about the inability to control the movement of this persistent chemical in the environment.
