When I was asked to organize a blue-ribbon panel of experts to provide independent answers to some pretty
frank questions about pesticide safety, it didn’t take a lot of convincing. As a physician who works at one of
the nation’s busiest poison control centers, I have a lot of first-hand experience with public concerns – real and unsubstantiated – about the pest control products used in our homes, our yards, our workplaces and our schools. And, while I spend most of my time in academia teaching toxicology or conducting research, I have enough contact with consumers to know that there’s a lot of serious misinformation out there.
