Registrants reject pesticide restrictions in salmon ESA case
Tuesday May 11 2010
Attorneys representing manufacturers of chlorpyrifos, diazinon and malathion informed EPA May 7 that the companies are unwilling to comply with use limitations on their products proposed by EPA, on the basis of recommendations from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), to protect endangered salmonids in California and the Pacific Northwest.
Dow AgroSciences, Cheminova, Ghardia Chemicals and Makhteshim Agan of North America (MANA) assert that the science behind the proposed restrictions is lacking and there has not been sufficient opportunity for stakeholder involvement in developing the restrictions. They are not only concerned about the impacts on their products, but also about the precedent it could set for other products.
