Calling for the DISMISSAL of Jerry Rousseau
National Organization Responding Against HUJE that seek to harm the Green Space Industry ( NORAHG ) is calling for the DISMISAL of Jerry Rousseau as Executive Director of Western Canada Turfgrass Association ( WCTA ).
Moreover, WCTA must IMMEDIATELY RETRACT Rousseau’s statements.
Rousseau has also been added to NORAHG’s list of CULPRITS that CONSPIRE to PROHIBIT pest control products in the Urban Landscape.
He is the SECOND director of a Green Space Industry Trade Association to DISGRACE HIMSELF and be placed on this list, the FIRST being Tony DiGiovanni of LandsCAPE Ontario.
NORAHG represents the VAST SILENT MAJORITY of people in the Green Space Industry who are OPPOSED to PROHIBITION.
Reasons for Rousseau DISMISSAL
The Government of British Columbia invited the public to participate in a consultation concerning a proposal to PROHIBIT pest control products in the Urban Landscape.
This was organized by the government’s « Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides », which was appointed by the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia.
Jerry Rousseau made a 30–minute presentation to the « Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides » on October 26th, 2011.
Rousseau was ILL–PREPARED and INCOMPETENT with his presentation, FAILING TO ADDRESS ANY of the serious issues facing the Professional Lawn Care Industry and Golf Industry.
In fact, he basically IGNORED the Professional Lawn Care Industry.
Anti–Pesticide Activists are PERPETUATING MYTHS about pest control products, and Rousseau DID NOTHING to challenge these MYTHS.

Rousseau should NOT HAVE BEEN ALLOWED to handle public affairs issues concerning the PROHIBITION of pest control products in the Urban Landscape.
Overall, Rousseau RAMBLED AIMLESSLY about issues that had NOTHING to do with the PROHIBITION of pest control products ― except one ― he SUPPORTED the PROHIBITION of WEED–CONTROL PRODUCTS.
Rousseau has NO recognized expertise, training or background in matters concerning public affairs and pest control products !

● Supporting the PROHIBITION of herbicides.
● Highly–exaggerating claims concerning Western Canada Turfgrass Association.
● Needlessly debating the use of the word « cosmetic ».
● Pointlessly speculating about residential areas being a source of pest problems.
● Using an obscure and ridiculous study concerning the health of golfers.

Here are excerpts from Rousseau’s presentation to « Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides » on October 26th, 2011 ―
The Western Canada Turfgrass Association, which I represent, is the education and research body not only for the golf industry but the turf management industry in general.
[ Untrue and highly–exaggerated claim. WCTA is NOT a research body. This has NOTHING to do with the PROHIBITION of pest control products. ]
There was a major study done, coincidentally in Sweden as well, that followed a half a million golfers for 20 years and did in fact prove that, on average, golfers live about five years longer than the general population. That came as quite a shock to a lot of people. Surprisingly — or not so surprisingly — the more golf you play, the better your chances are of having a long life. Part of that has to do with the fact that better golfers and people that play a lot generally tend to walk. They do carry their clubs. Walking and carrying clubs burns a lot of calories. That's a great message to get out to kids, but it's also a great message to get out to our seniors. I think everybody has concerns with the impending health care costs and what's facing us in the future, and we think that getting people more physically active is one of the things that we should all be looking at. Certainly, golf wants to contribute in that area.
[ This is RAMBLING AIMLESSLY about issues that have NOTHING to do with the PROHIBITION of pest control products Using this obscure and ridiculous study was a non–sequitur that DOES NOT follow ANY logical defense of the use of pest control products. ]
We do not distinguish between cosmetic pesticides and non–cosmetic.
[ It is INCONCEIVABLE that Rousseau has FALSELY ALLEGED that pest control products used in the Golf Industry are NOT used for so–called COSMETIC purposes. This has NOTHING to do with the PROHIBITION of pest control products. ]
Like you say, the fungus that we deal with, you won't find too much in other areas. Of course, golf courses are in urban areas, they're in rural areas, they're in interface areas, and yes, we’ll have infestations that could arguably come from a residential–commercial area — absolutely.
[ This is pointless speculation about sources of pest problems. This has NOTHING to do with the PROHIBITION of pest control products. ]
But mostly, I would comment, those are the weeds. Frankly, we don't care too much about the dandelions. They don’t bother too many people.

Essentially, what Rousseau told the committee is that WCTA SUPPORTS the PROHIBITION OF HERBICIDES used in the Urban Landscape.
Rousseau’s statement on herbicides is UNACCEPTABLE !
NORAHG is calling for the DISMISAL of Jerry Rousseau, or at the very least, his role in any public affairs forum must be TERMINATED and his statements CENSORED.
Moreover, Western Canada Turfgrass Association must IMMEDIATELY RETRACT Rousseau’s statements made to « Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides ».

This CAMPAIGN gives an unsuspecting public the FALSE and FRAUDULENT impression that the Anti–Pesticide Movement has considerable size and power, when in fact, IT DOES NOT.
Anti–Pesticide Activists have a HUGE VESTED INTEREST IN PERPETUATING IMAGINARY DANGERS about pest control products used in the Urban Landscape.
Doing this attracts HUGE PROFIT and BENEFITS, in the form of DONATIONS, GOVERNMENT GRANTS, and CELEBRITY.
Anti–Pesticide Activists also have a HUGE VESTED INTEREST IN PERPETUATING IMAGINARY DANGERS about pest control products BECAUSE THEY ARE PAID TO DO SO.
Incredibly, NOT A SINGLE Anti–Pesticide Activist has ANY recognized expertise, training or background in matters concerning pest control products !
Nonetheless, they CREATE MALICIOUS ILLUSION by PERPETUATING MYTHS about pest control products, and the public believes it is REALITY !
Sun–Setting CARNAGE in Other Jurisdictions
On April 22nd, 2009, the Government of Ontario ARBITRARILY PROHIBITED pest control products used in the Urban Landscape.
Ontario PROHIBITION was 100% Politically–Based and 0% Science–Based.
This NEEDLESS, SENSELESS, and MALICIOUS PROHIBITION led to the DESTRUCTION of the Modern Professional Lawn Care Industry.
The SAME FATE awaits British Columbia.
The DEVASTATION of the Professional Lawn Care Industry was EXTENSIVE because there were NO valid economical alternatives to replace the prohibited products.
Consequently, Professional Lawn Care Companies were UNABLE to provide adequate weed and insect control, and were UNABLE to keep their customers satisfied.
Anti–Pesticide PROHIBITION legislated by Ontario DESTROYED the Modern Professional Lawn Care Industry.
Ontario Government Officials were OFFICIALLY WARNED about the SUN–SETTING CARNAGE that would result from PROHIBITION.

The Environmental Commissioner’s Report to the Legislative Assembly on October 6th, 2009, OFFICIALLY WARNED about the SUN–SETTING CARNAGE of that would result from PROHIBITION ―
In the short–term, however, the ban may have SIGNIFICANT EFFECTS on the economic health or continued viability of many lawn care businesses, effectively SUN–SETTING components of an industry.
Because of PROHIBITION in Ontario, the Professional Lawn Care Industry LOST OVER 500,000,000 DOLLARS, with UP TO 12,500 UNEMPLOYED.
Because of PROHIBITION in Ontario, ONE–COMPANY–PER–WEEK DISAPPEARS INTO TOTAL OBLIVION.
The SAME FATE awaits British Columbia.
What is Western Canada
Turfgrass Association ?
In British Columbia, this trade association supposedly represents the well–being of both the Professional Lawn Care Industry and the Golf Industry.
In 2009, for some UNFATHOMABLE REASON, this IDIOTIC trade association, along with Canada Nursery Landscape Association, decided to SQUANDER money and resources on the City of Vancouver campaign of Anti–Pesticide MIS–INFORMATION.
IDIOTIC Trade Associations like Western Canada Turfgrass Association and Canada Nursery Landscape Association BETRAYED the Green Space Industry.
Additionally, they have VALIDATED the Anti–Pesticide agenda, which will lead to TOTAL PROHIBITION of pest control products AND fertilizers.
They also VALIDATED Vancouver’s Anti–Pesticide agenda for PROHIBITION by PEDDLING Nematode Insecticide.
In Canada, Nematode Insecticide is one of many so–called Green Alternative products that are supposed to REPLACE conventional pest control products.
Unfortunately, Nematode Insecticide DOES NOT WORK and is DISMAL FAILURES.
WCTA’s PEDDLING of Nematode Insecticide dates back to 2005.
In 2005, Western Canada Turfgrass Association, along with Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, commissioned a study of Nematode Insecticide for the control of European Chafer.
The result was an April 2005 report by E.S. Cropconsult Ltd., which was FLAWED and MIS–LEADING, is now DEBUNKED and DISCREDITED.
Yet again, IDIOTIC Western Canada Turfgrass Association took the UNFATHOMABLE position of supporting BOGUS Green Alternatives and the PROHIBITION of conventional pest control products for its own NEFARIOUS purposes.
Any PROHIBITION of pest control products is NOT JUSTIFIED in Canada because their STRICT REGULATION is BASED ON SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH.
PROHIBITION Will Be Rousseau’s FAULT
With the « Special Committee on Cosmetic Pesticides », Jerry Rousseau and Western Canada Turfgrass Association ( WCTA ) DID NOTHING to challenge these MYTHS about pest control products.
In 2010, Rousseau even boasted that WCTA had NO POSITION STATEMENT concerning pest control products, at a time when its members were/are facing eventual disaster, despair, and destitution.
This ATTITUDE OF DENIAL was UNACCEPTABLE.
In fact, Western Canada Turfgrass Association DOES have a POSITION ON pest control products.
In essence, Western Canada Turfgrass Association SUPPORTS the PROHIBITION of conventional pest control products, just like other Anti–Pesticide Organizations.
And now, Rousseau’s SUPPORT of PROHIBITION is EVEN MORE UNACCEPTABLE.
He BETRAYED everyone in the Green Space Industry !
Moreover, if LIMITED PROHIBITION is IMPLEMENTED against HERBICIDES, the Professional Lawn Care Industry will the FIRST to SUFFER.
If ANY PROHIBITION is IMPLEMENTED in British Columbia, it will be Rousseau’s FAULT.
Anyone supporting Rousseau and WCTA does NOT DESERVE a career, or a business, or any success in the Green Space Industry.
Rousseau must be DISMISSED, and his statements must be RETRACTED.
Moreover, a failure to act MORE DECISIVELY against PROHIBITION will be LETHAL AND FINAL for British Columbia, and will have a resounding impact across Canada.
Future generations will ask the question ― « What the hell was wrong with you ? »
WCTA MUST OPPOSE ALL FORMS OF PROHIBITION AGAINST PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS.
It must OPPOSE even PROHIBITION of WEED–CONTROL PRODUCTS since this is a FIRST STEP towards TOTAL PROHIBITION.

In order to successfully deter the malicious efforts of all Lunatic Golf–Hating Anti–Pesticide Terrorists, Western Canada Turfgrass Association must immediately address the following CRITICAL ISSUES.
1. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST ADOPT THE POSITION THAT CONVENTIONAL PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS ARE SCIENTIFICALLY–SAFE AND CAUSE NO HARM.
2. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST ALSO ADOPT THE POLICY that its use of ANY FERTILIZERS DOES NOT HARM THE ENVIRONMENT.
3. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST OPPOSE ALL FORMS OF PROHIBITION AGAINST PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS. It must OPPOSE even PROHIBITION on PUBLIC PROPERTY since this is a FIRST STEP towards TOTAL PROHIBITION.
4. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST DEMAND that ALL PROHIBITIONS pertaining to the use of pest control product in the Urban Landscape BE RESCINDED in ALL PROVINCIAL AND MUNICIPAL JURISDICTIONS.
5. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST ALSO OPPOSE ALL FORMS OF PROHIBITION AGAINST FERTILIZERS.
6. Western Canada Turfgrass Association must TERMINATE ALL RELATIONSHIPS with all Anti–Pesticide Organizations that conspire to prohibit pest control products, like Canadian Cancer Society, World Wildlife Fund, and others. All related charitable tournaments that provide financial donations and support to these Anti–Pesticide Organizations must be SUSPENDED.
7. More specifically, Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST DEMAND that Golf Canada ( a.k.a. RCGA ) TERMINATE ALL RELATIONSHIPS with all Anti–Pesticide Organizations that conspire to prohibit pest control products, like Canadian Cancer Society, World Wildlife Fund, and others. Golf Canada MUST CEASE SUPPLYING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to organizations that have publicly THREATENED, REPEATEDLY, Western Canada Turfgrass Association with Anti–Pesticide PROHIBITION.
8. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST CEASE ATTEMPTING TO EDUCATE and TO CONVINCE Anti–Pesticide Government Officials and Activists. They are to be considered ENEMIES of the industry. These Anti–Pesticide–Lunatics WILL NEVER reverse their attitudes AGAINST pest control products. NO ONE MUST NEGOTIATE WITH TERRORISTS, either environmental or political.
9. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST CEASE focusing on the INEFFECTIVE practices of Integrated Pest Management ( IPM ) as the solution to its public affairs problems. Besides, IPM practices DO NOT WORK in controlling pests.
10. Western Canada Turfgrass Association must plan for the INEVITABLE and TOTAL REVOCATION of the Golf Industry EXCEPTION STATUS, in two to four years. The Golf Industry will LOSE many or ALL of its valued and necessary pest control products.
11. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST ADOPT THE POLICY that the ONLY COURSE OF ACTION AGAINST PROHIBITION IS THROUGH LITIGATION.
12. When Anti–Pesticide PROHIBITION is IMPOSED, Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST LAUNCH LITIGATION against those Government Officials and Activists who CONSPIRED TO PROHIBIT PEST CONTROL PRODUCTS. These products are, in fact HEALTH–CANADA–APPROVED, FEDERALLY–LEGAL, and PRACTICALLY–NON–TOXIC.
13. When Anti–Pesticide PROHIBITION is IMPOSED, Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST SEEK DAMAGES since its members will be NO LONGER able to reproduce the business results obtained prior to PROHIBITION, and the VALUE of their businesses will have been DESTROYED.
14. When Anti–Pesticide PROHIBITION is IMPOSED, Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST DEMAND COMPENSATION FROM GOVERNMENT since PROHIBITION will have created LOSS OF REVENUES, BUSINESS FAILURES, BANKRUPTCY, and UNEMPLOYMENT.
15. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST DENOUNCE the so–called GREEN ALTERNATIVES to conventional pest control products as BOGUS. Green Alternatives DO NOT WORK. There will likely be NO viable, efficacious, or economical Green Alternatives within our collective lifetime.
16. Western Canada Turfgrass Association must DIVULGE to the public ALL scientific information that ascertains that its chemicals are definitely « minimum–risk » or « reduced–risk ». Western Canada Turfgrass Association must create a fully transparent data–base for right–to–know concerning its chemicals. It must demonstrate that pest control products are Health–Canada–Approved, Federally–Legal, Scientifically–Safe, and Practically–Non–Toxic.
17. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST ALSO DENOUNCE CULTURAL PRACTICES as a so–called « legitimate alternative » to the use of pest control products. Cultural practices DO NOT WORK in controlling pests.
18. Western Canada Turfgrass Association must develop and publish GOLF MAINTENANCE PROTOCOLS and the PERFORMANCE STANDARDS expected by its playing customers. So far, the Golf Industry has been ridiculously inconsistent in defining « suitable playing surfaces ».
19. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST SCIENTIFICALLY DEFINE and PUBLICALLY DISCREDIT the mis–leading term « Organic Maintenance », and establish policies for EXPELLING members using this inaccurate and misleading term. These members are not WITH US, then they are AGAINST US !
20. Western Canada Turfgrass Association must cease its wasteful support of Nematode Insecticides.
21. Western Canada Turfgrass Association must very strongly address and discredit the misconceptions concerning imidacloprid, chlorothalonil, 2,4–D, and other chemicals.
22. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST VIGOROUSLY EMBARK ON A MASSIVE PUBLIC RELATIONS CAMPAIGN declaring that Pesticide–Free Maintenance is a DISMAL FAILURE !
23. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST VERY STRONGLY ADDRESS AND DISCREDIT ALL MISCONCEPTIONS concerning imidacloprid, 2,4–D, and other ingredients.
24. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST TERMINATE ALL RELATIONSHIPS with ALL TEACHING AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS that SUPPORT the PROHIBITION of pest control products. ALL joint activities and educational seminars MUST BE ENDED FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD OF TIME. If they are not WITH US, then they are AGAINST US !
25. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST OPENLY AND FINANCIALLY SUPPORT ALL POLITICAL CANDIDATES WHO OPPOSE ANY PROHIBITION of pest control products.
26. Western Canada Turfgrass Association MUST DEMAND that NEW and ADVANCED products continue to be registered in Canada. Under the present circumstances, the Manufacturing Industry will NO LONGER invest in ANY new pest control products in Canada, since it abhors operating in markets made UNSTABLE by TERRORISM, whether political or environmental.
27. If Western Canada Turfgrass Association wants to EXERT INFLUENCE on Elected Government Officials, it MUST OPENLY AND FINANCIALLY SUPPORT ALL POLITICAL CANDIDATES who oppose ANY Anti–Pesticide PROHIBITION. Forget about EDUCATING and CONVINCING Elected Government Officials. GIVE THEM MONEY AND SUPPORT during the next General Election.
