PrintEmail(Highland Park, Ill. – Nov. 1 2011) – The Park District of Highland Park (PDHP) seeks community volunteers for its first-ever hand-weeding event in order to manually address the weed overgrowth at its athletic fields. Anyone who wants to help is invited to clear weeds from Danny Cunniff Park fields on Friday, Nov. 11, beginning promptly at 11 a.m.
“We have had many people notify us of their interest in forming and participating in a weed-pulling team, and we are delighted to get the help,” said Liza McElroy, Executive Director. “Currently, there are three parks in particular that really need attention, but because Danny Cunniff Park has three soccer fields and two baseball fields, we feel it’s best to begin at our largest site.”
Volunteers should meet at the field house by the soccer fields at Danny Cunniff Park, 2700 Trail Way in Highland Park. Park District employees will provide instruction and guidance for the day. The Park District is asking participants to bring gloves if they have them and dress for the weather. Families with children are welcome, however the event is recommended for children ages 10 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
In order to best accommodate necessary supply quantities, those interested in volunteering should please RSVP, along with the number of participants and their ages, at info@pdhp.org or by calling 847-579-3103.
