It is a MYTH to believe that pest control products somehow cause cancer.
Environmental Protection Agency's ( EPA ) and Health Canada’s EXTENSIVE TOXICOLOGY DATABASE CLEARLY PROVE that pest control products are SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE !
Both EPA and Health Canada require each new pest control product to go through about TWO-HUNDRED SEPARATE TESTS to examine health and environmental impacts as well as value, and costing about 250 MILLION DOLLARS.
There are THOUSANDS OF DEATHS per year from KNOWN CANCER-CAUSING SUBSTANCES such as cigarette smoke and alcohol.
There is NOT ONE KNOWN CANCER DEATH from the proper use of pest control products used in the Urban Landscape.
Canadian Cancer Society, through its promotional literature, continues to insist there is a link between pest control products and cancer, despite the fact that its U.S. counterpart, American Cancer Society, DOES NOT SHARE THE SAME VIEWPOINT.
Even Canadian Cancer Society’s own web-site states that scientific research does NOT provide a conclusive link be-tween pesticides and human cancer.

In 2007, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Pest Management Regulatory Agency of Health Canada issued a ruling that products like 2,4-D Herbicide ARE NOT CANCER-CAUSING IN HUMANS.
The World Health Organization only lists the common pest control product 2,4-D in the SAME CANCER-RISK CATEGORY AS PICKLED VEGETABLES AND CELL-PHONES.
International Agency for Research on Cancer ( IARC is part of the United Nation’s World Health Organization ) lists VERY FEW PESTICIDES as carcinogenic, or as probable or possible carcinogens, and NONE of these can be found among « cosmetic pesticides » used in the Urban Landscape.
Pest control products are SCIENTIFICALLY SAFE, and NO HARM WILL OCCUR when they are used according to label directions.

● There are NO TOXICOLOGICAL or HEALTH REASONS for Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION.
● NOT EVERY pest control product is highly toxic.
● NOT EVERY pest control products is highly dangerous.
● Pest Management Regulatory Agency uses the PRECAUTIONARY APPROACH to set guidelines for exposures for humans.
● At least in home and garden use, most pest control products are actually VERY NON–PERSISTENT.
● There is really A LACK OF EVIDENCE linking pest control product exposure to human risks of cancer.
● There is NO EVIDENCE of ANY causal link between pesticide use and cancer.
● Pest control products are LESS TOXIC THAN TABLE SALT.
● EPIDEMIOLOGY STUDIES are really based only on CORRELATION and SUGGESTED LINKS, and they CANNOT ESTABLISH CAUSALITY ON THEIR OWN.

If you want to do it [ impose PROHIBITION ] for political reasons, that’s fine.
That’s within your mandate.
But if you do that, you should be honest enough to admit that you’re actually doing that.
Consider the countervailing risks.
There are certainly INCREASED COSTS related to either the actual cost of the alternatives, or the lack of efficacy of many of these, which means they have to be applied MORE OFTEN, and this INCREASES COSTS as well.
