Pesticide Free Failure | City Of Coquitlam Offers Water Ban Exemptions for Organic Pest Control | Water Use Restrictions & Regulations

Nematodes are microscopic organisms that can control European Chafer beetles and are most effective when applied between late July and mid-August. As your lawn must be watered thoroughly before and after a nematode application, you can apply for a water exemption permit from the City to water outside of the sprinkling restrictions. Please refer to our European Chafer beetle information to learn about managing European Chafer beetle infestations on your lawn.

Exemption permits for nematode treatments:

  • can be applied for starting on July 15 and ending on August 15 every year
  • are valid for two weeks (14 days) from the permit issue date and only apply to the area of lawn treated with nematodes
  • allow sprinkling outside of the restricted days and times, within the permit's validity period

Apply in person at Engineering Customer Service at City Hall:

  • Permit applications are free of charge and are eligible for one renewal
  • Applicants must bring proof of nematode application (receipt for nematode purchase or invoice from company to the applicant's address showing nematode treatment service)

Companies may apply for nematode permits on behalf of multiple properties:

  • Please email the Water Conservation Coordinator in advance (waterconservation@coquitlam.ca) and attach a complete list of property addresses including the names and contact numbers of the residents
  • Please allow at least 5 business days for staff to process and issue the permits for pick up
