Delta Pesticide Ban – Ladner Lawn Bowling Club – Pesticide Ban Costs Club $400,000 – Destruction Of Lawn Bowling & Golf Industries – 2012 04 17

The Lawn Bowling Industry, like the Golf Industry, has been granted EXCEPTION STATUS under most Anti-Pesticide jurisdictions.

Without the EXCEPTION STATUS, the Lawn Bowling Industry would find it FINANCIALLY CHALLENGING to continue operations since pests that are damaging to natural turfgrass cannot be controlled without conventional pest control products.

Not every Lawn Bowling Club has been so fortunate.

In Delta, British Columbia, the Ladner Lawn Bowling Club does NOT benefit from an EXCEPTION STATUS.

Ladner Lawn Bowling Club, one of the oldest in British Columbia and established in 1917, has been FORCED to replace its natural turfgrass surface with an artificial/synthetic/plastic one.

Town of Ladner is a part of the Municipality of Delta, British Columbia, and a suburb of Vancouver, with a population of less than 20,000.

At the Ladner Lawn Bowling Club, crews have prepared the surface for a new artificial bowling green, and the work is expected to be completed by early June 2012.

The work was started in early April 2012 to dig up the hallowed natural turfgrass and to begin preparing the site for the specially designed PLASTIC CARPET that is being imported from a British manufacturer.

The cost  …

400,000 DOLLARS !

WHO CAN AFFORD THIS #@!!% NONSENSE ?!?!

The decision for the conversion was made two years ago when the 110 or so members voted two-thirds in favour of the artificial grass.

According to the club president, Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION, plus the annual cost of maintaining the natural turfgrass  —  about 10,000 dollars per year  —  helped tip the scales.

In 2009, the City of Delta IMPOSED a « bylaw to regulate the use of pesticides for cosmetic purposes ».

But, unlike most other jurisdictions, the City of Delta DID NOT provide an EXCEPTION STATUS for Ladner Lawn Bowling Club.

Consequently, Ladner Lawn Bowling Club, which owns the property, raised funds over the past four years, and is close to reaching the required total.

Unfortunately, it will cost Ladner Lawn Bowling Club a lot more than 10,000 dollars per year to maintain its artificial/synthetic/plastic grass with practices such as DISINFECTION using industrial-strength chemical products.

Will City of Delta insist that even Golf Facilities within its jurisdiction also convert to synthetic grass ?!?!

What will be the cost of converting 18 natural putting greens to synthetic ?

5 MILLION DOLLARS ?

10 MILLION DOLLARS ?

WHO CAN AFFORD THIS #@!!% NONSENSE ?!?!

PROHIBITION IS NOT NECESSARY

Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION has already DESTROYED the Modern Professional Lawn Care Industry in many jurisdictions across Canada.

It is NOW DESTROYING the Lawn Bowling Industry.

It will soon begin its DESTRUCTION of the Golf Industry.

Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION was/is NEEDLESS, SENSELESS, MALICIOUS, and UNNECESSARY.

PROHIBITION is NOT NECESSARY since pest control products are GOVERNMENT-APPROVED, FEDERALLY-LEGAL, SCIENTIFICALLY-SAFE, PRACTICALLY-NON-TOXIC, and CAUSE NO HARM.

Any PROHIBITION against pest control products is NOT JUSTIFIED because STRICT REGULATIONS based on scientific research already PROTECT our health and our environment.

ALL PROHIBITIONS are 100 per cent Politically-Based and 0 per cent Science-Based.

Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITIONS represent a TRIUMPH OF SENTIMENT OVER SCIENCE.

The MAJOR SOURCE of exposure to pest control products is from FOOD SUPPLY, and NOT the Urban Landscape.

PROHIBITION is NOT necessary, and has led to CATASTROPHIC CARNAGE such as BUSINESS FAILURES and UNEMPLOYMENT, and even DEATH.

SYNTHETIC GRASS

While Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITIONS are frequently defended by advocates as a way to reduce unknown risks and promote a more natural environment, in fact THE OPPOSITE MAY BE TRUE.

The number of artificial/synthetic/plastic sports fields in Ontario has recently EXPLODED  ―  from a mere handful a decade ago to over a hundred this year.

On April 22nd, 2009  ―  another date which will live in the period of environmental infamy  ―  the full force of the Ontario Cosmetic Pesticides Ban Act came into effect.

Without pest control products, it has become IMPOSSIBLE to maintain a natural turfgrass sports field.

Artificial sports fields boast plenty of advantages, despite their average 1-MILLION-DOLLAR UP-FRONT COST.

It seems ironic that an Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION meant to encourage a greener environment will result in a GREATER PREVALENCE OF PLASTIC SPORTS FIELDS.

( Not to mention the issue of how to DISPOSE of an artificial field once its life-span ends. )

Other REAL RISKS have also been OVERLOOKED in the UNSCIENTIFIC PANIC about pest control products.

Experts have reported that natural turfgrass acts as a NATURAL FILTER AND A MICROBIOLOGICAL SYSTEM that consumes any bodily fluids leaked, spat, or vomited onto it.

NOT SO with an artificial field  ―  in the absence of a cleansing downpour, what’s on the field stays on the field.

In the State of Texas, a higher rate of STAPH INFECTIONS among high school students  ―  many times the national average  ―  BECAUSE OF ARTIFICIAL SPORTS FIELDS.

In 2007, footballer Boone Baker of Austin, Texas, ALMOST DIED from a deadly methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ( MRSA ) infection he picked up from his high school’s artificial/synthetic grass.

Regular DISINFECTION OF ARTIFICIAL FIELDS using industrial-strength chemical products is now a recommended maintenance procedure in all climates.

When it comes to pest control products, City of Delta could have learned a lot from the experience of those who have gone before  ―  if the goal is to reduce verifiable risks, promote a more natural environment, and encourage healthy activities, PROHIBITING pest control products SEEMS A STRANGE WAY TO GO ABOUT IT.

BENEFITS OF NATURAL GRASS

Here are some of the benefits that will be LOST by Ladner Lawn Bowling Club by having its natural turfgrass surface replaced with artificial/synthetic plastic grass  …

A well-maintained conventional lawn can act as a CUSHION THAT MINIMIZES INJURIES IF SOMEONE FALLS.

A well-maintained natural turfgrass surface can act as a HEAT-DISSIPATER FOR COOLING THE ATMOSPHERE, just like an air conditioner.

A well-maintained natural turfgrass surface can act as a NATURAL FILTER AND A MICROBIOLOGICAL SYSTEM that consumes any bodily fluids leaked, spat, or vomited onto it.

A well-maintained natural turfgrass surface can act as a PREVENTER OF SOIL AND WATER RUN-OFF.

A well-maintained natural turfgrass surface can act as a RECHARGER OF MOISTURE IN THE ATMOSPHERE.

A well-maintained natural turfgrass surface can act as a REDUCER OF NOISE AND SUN GLARE.

A well-maintained natural turfgrass surface can also act as a CLEANSER OF DUST AND OTHER AIR OF POLLUTANTS.

A well-maintained natural turfgrass surface can also act as a STABILIZER FOR PREVENTING SOIL EROSION AND FLOODING.

IN THE 9|11 ERA OF ANTI-GOLF TERRORISM  …

The Golf Industry is on a COLLISION COURSE with the BLACK DEATH of Environmental and Anti-Pesticide Terrorism !

Golf facilities WILL become ABANDONED WASTE DUMPS !

The Anti-Pesticide Terrorists will ANNIHILATE the Golf Industry !

We Are Now Living in the 9|11 Era of Environmental-Terrorism Against the Green Space Industry  ―  which includes the IMMINENT DEMISE of the Golf Industry.

The PROHIBITION CONSPIRACY against pest control products has now attained NATIONAL proportions, and the provinces are FALLING LIKE DOMINOES.

The Professional Lawn Care Industry has been systematically ANNIHILATED by Anti-Pesticide Terrorists across Canada.

PROHIBITION has led to HORRENDOUS and CATASTROPHIC CARNAGE for businesses operating in the Professional Lawn Care Industry, in the form of IMMENSE LOSSES OF REVENUES, BUSINESS FAILURES, BANKRUPTCY, and UNEMPLOYMENT, and even HORRIFIC FINES.

The Golf Industry can eventually EXPECT THE SAME CARNAGE.

In virtually all Anti-Pesticide jurisdictions, the Golf Industry has been provided with an EXCEPTION STATUS, and its use of pest control products HAS NOT BEEN PROHIBITED.

The Golf Industry can eventually EXPECT TO LOSE ITS EXCEPTION STATUS.

The Golf Industry, because of the attitude of its trade association leaders  ―  an attitude of denial, protectionism, and mock-dismay at any form of criticism  ―  ignored the supreme historic opportunity to join forces with the Professional Lawn Care Industry, and LITIGATE against the forces of Anti-Pesticide Terrorist-Evil.

A failure to do so was LETHAL, and future generations will someday ask the question  ―  WHY DID YOU NOT ACT ?

The SUBVERSIVE CONSPIRACIES OF ANTI-PESTICIDE PROHIBITION WILL NEVER END  ―  and it will SPREAD to the Golf Industry.

The Golf Industry is on a COLLISION COURSE with the LOOMING SHIPWRECK of Anti-Pesticide and even Anti-Fertilizer TERRORISM !

For the first time within collective history, it can honestly be said that there is NO LONGER A HOPEFUL FUTURE for anyone in the Golf Industry.

IN THE YEAR 2020  …

●   The game of golf is NO LONGER a flourishing Billion-Dollar-Industry.

●   Canadian Cancer Society has succeeded in ANNIHILATING the Golf Industry.

●   The Golf Industry is SEVERELY WEAKENED by aging and declining membership, falling revenues, over-saturated market, unstable economy, volatile weather, and ANTI-PESTICIDE SUBVERSION.

●   Golf facilities are ANNIHILATED by Enviro-Lunatic LAWSUITS with FALSE ALLEGATIONS of pesticide and fertilizer pollution.

●   Enviro-Lunatics SHUT-DOWN golf facilities to save obscure and meaningless animal species like tadpoles and snakes.

●   ORGANIC PESTICIDE-FREE golf course maintenance DOES NOT WORK.

●   Bethpage and Vineyard, once used as U.S. examples, are DISMAL FAILURES.

●   Pest control products are PROHIBITED NATIONALLY, despite being INDISPUTABLY SAFE to use.

●   Anti-Pesticide PROHIBITION in Anti-Pesticide countries like Denmark DESTROYS most of golf facilities.

●   Integrated Pest Management and Green Alternatives are DISMAL FAILURES.

●   The ENTIRE Golf Industry has its PESTICIDE EXCEPTION STATUS REVOKED.

●   Pest problems are TOTALLY UNMANAGEABLE without conventional products.

●   The labour now needed for pesticide-free maintenance is STAGGERING.

●   The concept of Brown Is Beautiful is also a DISMAL FAILURE.

●   Golfers NO LONGER want to play on BROWN DEPRESSING UNPLAYABLE courses.

●   Golf facilities can no longer offer BEAUTIFUL RESTFUL green spaces to its clients.

●   Playing conditions are TOTALLY DISMAL at virtually ALL pesticide-free golf facilities.

●   Only the VERY RICH ELITE golfer can afford GREEN HEALTHY PLAYABLE courses.

●   Over seventy per cent of golfers ABANDON the sport.

●   All golf facilities are considered as WORTHLESS investments.

●   No one can buy or sell a golf facility, and owners are FRANTIC.

●   Golf facilities can NO LONGER AFFORD to pay the property taxes.

●   In North America, over sixty per cent of all golf clubs CLOSE DOWN or GO BANKRUPT.

●   Superintendents are NO LONGER NECESSARY or NEEDED.

●   The Multi-Billion-Dollar-Golf-Industry is ANNIHILATED.

●   Large numbers of golf facilities become ABANDONED WASTE DUMPS.

●   The Golf Industry succumbs to BLACK DEATH.
